I graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in Studio Composition in 2007, and from Hebrew College with a Masters' Degree in Jewish Education in June, 2016. I have been working in after-school, Hebrew school, camp, and other supplementary educational settings for the past ten years. Most of my students are learning piano, and I also have a few Hebrew students. My Hebrew students are either studying for their bnei mitzvah, maintaining their conversational Hebrew, or learning for the purpose of competence of services or Torah study. My piano students have ranged from age 4 to young children learning Classical pieces to teens learning to play the songs they like to adults working on their songwriting and improvisation. My strengths are improvisation, music theory and ear training, accompaniment of popular songs - rock, theater, pop, folk, etc.

My first lesson was everything I hoped for from start to finish. I haven't played piano for many years & wanted to begin by using a keyboard as a learning tool--to recapture dexterity and reading ability. I emerged with a better grasp of basics & even a little music theory--exactly as I had requested. Itai is a wonderfully patient teacher & I am looking forward to next week.

Ricky is an amazingly creative and inspiring teacher.

Ricky has been teaching my daughter for last 5 years. My daughter is now 15 years old. She already played piano for a couple of years before Ricky started working with her and at that time was getting disinterested. We were looking for someone who would bring that interest and spark back into her playing piano. I was looking for a special teacher who can teach basics of improvisation and accompaniment to a young child. After talking with several potential teachers, we decided to work with Ricky.

Ricky has proven to be an amazing teacher for my daughter. He is patient, creative and able to adjust to the child’s needs. I was amazed when couple of months after my daughter started working with him; she was already improvising and playing really cool pieces of music. That kind of teaching has inspired my daughter to continue playing piano for the last 5 years. She has accompanied two of her friends singing at her school talent shows and graduation ceremony with encouragement and inspiration Ricky has provided her all along.

Ricky frequently encourages my daughter to pick her own songs she would like to work on. Ricky has a strong knowledge of music theory and has incorporated that in his lessons. I love that my daughter is learning music theory, improvisation, accompaniment and reading music all with the same teacher. It is not easy to find a teacher who is so creative to include all of these in his teaching method. I would highly recommend Ricky as a piano teacher for any age.

I design lessons individually according to the needs and "wants" of each student. I specialize in developing and correcting technique in technique to improve the student's overall skill. Students that dedicate the time and effort each week to practicing see rapid and sustained results.

***Young & Special Needs Students***

I teach children as young as 13 years old and adults to the age of 70 years old. When teaching younger children and individuals with special needs, it is significantly beneficial for parents to attend each lesson - I have parent seating available. When parent(s) attend lessons, the parent can assist the younger student while practicing during the week at home.

In my experience, the overall musical development and progress of younger students improve considerably when parents are involved.

***Thoughts on Musical Talent***

Musical talent is a wonderful gift, but correct technique is not easily acquired without proper instruction. Your skill level eventually plateaus and your ability to learn and perform more complicated music is inhibited, unless you have a solid foundation in music theory as it applies to your instrument(s) as well as proper technique.

Where to start. Alex is a just a great all around person. He makes learning fun. As long as you put in the time and effort he will guide you through to where you need to be. Never a dull moment, as his lessons bring out the best in you. I would highly recommend going to him, as his style is very different than other tutors or professors. He encourages you to engage in what you are studying; to be proactive and animated, which ultimately leads to results, while having fun in the process. His style is the way learning in general should be. His techniques will train you to remain calm in the face of adversity. You will not regret going to Alex. I took tutorials on general chemistry with Dr. Alan for one term. He always went extra miles to make sure that I was prepared for my tutorial sessions by sending me enrichment materials on topics that were covered in my class beforehand. He accommodated my learning style and was able to provide supplemental lectures as I requested, which I appreciate tremendously. He was also always very prompt in responding to my emails. He doesn't always provide direct answers when you ask questions, but provides guidance in a way that makes you think -I believe this is essential in learning. I would recommend tutorials with Dr. Alan if you are keen on learning and truly want to comprehend your subjects of interest well.

As a non-traditional student I was struggling with Gen Chem 2 early in the semester because I didn't have the fresh skillset my peers possessed from only being out of high school chemistry for a year or less. Dr. Alan helped simplify complex concepts which brought me up to speed and made sense of the fray, allowing me to go from a 70 at the the beginning of the semester to a high A by the end of the semester.

Dr. M is the best! I decided to take organic chemistry this summer and he's been with me every step of the way! He is very patient with me and I don't feel discouraged when I don't get the right answer (which I've found to be the case with my professor). He goes above and beyond by giving me practice problems ahead of time and by sending me copies of the notes we make during our meetings so I don't have to frantically scribble down notes. I am from Moscow, Russia. I've been teaching classes in schools, universities and companies and private lessons since 2010. I have enjoyed helping thousands of people improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing. I've worked with a wide range of people — students, immigrants, and professionals.

I hold a Ph.D. degree with all Honors and Privileges from Top 5 Universities in China and Specialist Diploma with Honors of Moscow State Law Academy (Moscow, Russia).

Специалистом мы очень довольны. Виктория интересно преподносит материал, наша дочка с удовольствием занимается. Репетитор пунктуальная и ответственная, к дочери относится доброжелательно.
