Joshua has been a great teacher for my 11 year old son! My son is learning how to play the saxophone and even though he's had no experience playing any type of instruments, he's learning a lot because Joshua's a great teacher. He's patient and kind with him and I would recommend him to anyone that's looking to learn something new!

Josh is very professional and serious about teaching chess. He teaches my 9 year old daughter and she is learning fast. I asked him to make sure my daughter states the rules before each move and he does a great job at that. He is very nice and we feel very comfortable with him. He doesn't joke around or waste time. I like that especially when dealing with kids. We will continue our classes with him. My daughter will take a few mins to get started and he starts the time when she's ready.

Josh is a no nonsense teacher. I liked that we got right into it the first lesson so to speak. We had to use FaceTime instead of zoom so it was a little hard for me to hear, but he was very patient and repeated instructions many times.

I've been teaching saxophone for 20 years and my students have gone on to the State level Band Auditions and won multiple times. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to make a decent sound, play scales, arpeggios and simple tunes, and as time goes on you'll be able to play popular tunes solo and with accompaniment of piano or band. I specialize in classical, jazz and klezmer style, typically use best published books, and have the renovated, quiet and spacious studio, music stands, audio equipment. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.

In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.

Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.

Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation.

My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time.
We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory. My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction.

I am a young saxophonist, just 18 years old. I play at a very high level, despite my age. I am currently in Hofstra University's Jazz Ensemble, studying with a jazz great, Dave Lalama. In highs school, I wasa given All-State recognition for classical and jazz music. I also won the most prestigious award at a jazz festival in Boston during my senior year of high school. I can give insight to new, modern jazz nuances that not many people would know. Also, I can teach the basics of jazz to anybody that is interested in learning how to play this wonderful style of music. Although jazz is my main area of interest, I am more than able to teach classical music as well. I have a very strong background in classical music. I am a versatile teacher, and I am ready to help any student that decides to work with me.

Saxophone:
A family of woodwind instruments, saxophones are usually made of brass and played with a single-reed mouthpiece similar to that of the clarinet. Like the clarinet, saxophones have holes in the instrument which the player closes using a system of key mechanisms. When the player presses a key, this typically causes a pad to close over a hole. There is soprano, alto, tenor, bass and baritone saxophones. The great thing about learning saxophone is it is almost the same fingers as flute and clarinet! We will start with the basics of learning finger placement, breath control, notes, reading, rhythms, songs, theory and improvising.

Karen was not prepared for the lesson. She spent 15 minutes trying to send me photos from a beginner Tabla book available on Amazon. She did not own a set of Tabla drums. She ensured me she could teach anything, but could not pronounce the words used for proper Tabla technique, knew no history and could not even teach me to tune. She literally was reading out of the book figuring it out along the way. I lost a lot of trust from this and asked for a full refund for future lessons.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

"Mary and I started working together after I co-founded a 60s soul/R&B/ska/reggae-beat band in which I sang vocals and was asked to play alto sax by the bandleader. I hadn't played sax in years (clarinet is my primary instrument), and among other things, I needed to start learning how to improvise - challenging for a symphonic band player whose head was always in sheet music. Mary's approach and teaching methods worked well for me; she's great at getting to know you as a player and your goals, and once she did that for me, she was immediately able to formulate a course of action. In the six months we were together, my tone, pitch, and playing improved, and my confidence grew. I heartily recommend Mary; no matter your instrument, she will get right down to business, keep you moving, and inject some fun into the whole process. A great player and entertainer, Mary has been a strong role model for me. I am grateful for everything I've learned from her, and I look forward to working with her again."

"My son is currently taking online lessons with Lucas and we're both quite happy with the experience so far. My son has been playing tenor for 4 years (currently 10th grade- in concert, jazz and marching bands at school) and had only ever taken live lessons before, but we're finding that online works out well. No extra travel time/hassle, which is great since he doesn't drive yet- just log online from our basement. Lucas had good availability and has been open to reschedule as necessary. Lucas has helped him with pieces for honor band auditions so far with specific feedback and even I can hear the difference in my son's playing."

"Frixos was a terrific teacher for my son (now 12) and my daughter (now 14). He worked with them once per week for about two years, when my son finished 5th grade and my daugher was finishing 6th grade. He helped my son get started and learn the alto sax from scratch, and helped get my daugher on track, and correct her many mistakes. In short, both my kids made the top band in middle school at the end of their 6th grade years. My daugher was the top alto sax in her middle school by middle of 7th grade, and my son by the end of 6th grade. The both had a blast with their instruments, and the worked with them on the scales, and playing various genres of music including jazz. Their understanding of music was far beyond most of their classes, and they enjoyed their class time with him, and got to know a person that spend their entire life and professional career in the music business. In addition to Alto Sax lessons, he worked with the kids to learn music studio tools and play keyboard. After two years, we had to stop the lessons, due to financial constraints, but Frixos was like family to us, and I would highly recommond him to anyone without hesitation. He's a great guy!"
