I feel what makes taking lessons with me unique is my experience teaching private violin and viola lessons in Texas public schools (grades 6-12) and my career as a professional musician. Through the lens of that experience, I know how crucial an education that includes Classical music can be in a young student’s overall academic development and maturation. Not everyone pursues music as a career, however, no matter the student’s skill level, age, or degree of commitment, I wish to ultimately be a positive support system for a student’s development in their desirability to make music.

Hello….the viola is a wonderful instrument and is tuned an octave higher than the cello. The viola's open-pitched strings are: from hi to low…A, D, G and C. No E string. The viola is played like the violin but with more natural arm weight as the strings are thicker. The viola also comes in fractional sizes: 12 inch up to 17 inch. A new viola student needs to be fitted for the correct size so the instrument is not so big and heavy that it will case frustration with playing and possibly an injury from being too big…this is especially true for children and adult women. We have viola's for rent, professional set up with good quality strings.

I have been playing viola for eleven years and I learned how to read music, sight read, train my ear and more, I want to teach you my knowledge giving you specialized plans which will help you develop the skills you need and want to become the viola player you want to be! All ages are accepted. I will work with you together to grow as a musician and teach you all you are interested in.

Whether you want to play classical viola, alto fiddle traditional tunes, or perform like your favorite pop artists, I can set you on the path to success! My private students range in age from 4 to 40 years old, and I have gone on to become music teachers, composers, and professional musicians. My most influential teachers have been members of The Philadelphia Orchestra and graduates of The Curtis Institute of Music.

Music is awesome!! I teach all levels and all kinds of music: from Bach to Brahms, Pop songs, Rock and Roll, beginner to advanced and everywhere in between. I love teaching both classical and non classical music because all music is beautiful and can remind us of a favorite song or maybe even a fond memory. I teach how to learn music by ear and love the deeper connection that understanding all the notes of a piece can bring to a performance. I teach duets (of any level) for the purpose of practicing chamber music skills. I’ve taught students ages 5-19 for over 5 years and have a degree in Viola Performance.
