Her experience includes working for high end and luxury tailor shops in NYC, as well as fitting on-set for photoshoots, ecommerce, celebrity fittings and red carpet events.

Sewing lessons include a lesson plan based on your experience and goals.
Includes: Machine sewing techniques: how to thread machine, basic machine sewing methods, hand sewing techniques, understanding patterns, how to cut and sew from patterns, clothing alterations, creating a piece from start to finish.

Hi! My name is Avalon. I have my bachelors degree in fashion design and I’ve been making clothes for almost 10 years but I’ve been passionate about fashion for as long as I can remember. I started teaching kids how to sew one summer and I’ve been in love with it ever since. I have experience in both pattern making and draping and I own my own business where I make custom designs for customers. I am comfortable teaching students at all levels, so feel free to reach out.

My substantial areas of expertise are women and men patternmaking, draping, garment construction (sewing), tailoring, technical drawing, concepts sketching, from basic to advance skill set. I am also a big fan of incorporating recycled / repurposing materials such as leather, suede into garments.I encourage students to construct their own learning in an environment that stimulates and helps students to realize their full potential.

Beginner-You will learn basic skills of hand and machine stitching, seams, darts, pleats, zippers, pouch, tote bag and build many more samples into a scrapbook.

Intermediate- Fabric dimension and behavior, cutting skills, bias binding, various necklines and making a skirt or blouse. Learn to make garment with commercial pattern.

Advanced-Make dress, skirt, pants or blouse with lining.

Note: Although students learn at different rates, the above results are expected, if taking lessons 2hours a week, for 5weeks for all levels.

I am a seamstress, costume designer, historical clothing expert and have worked in the film industry. I routinely perform costume repair work for theatrical companies, alterations for formal gowns and create/modify garments to use in film and living history events.
