I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of their instrument and theory skills. I specialize in all styles. Typically, I use a variety of method books to pick from to meet the needs of the students. I also have many tools available to use during lessons.

My name is Josh Marcus. I'm a clarinet teacher and also teach flute, saxophone, and piano as well as jazz improvisation and other instruments such as bass and drums. I've been playing for about 25 years now! I'm well versed in any style you can imagine including jazz, classical, funk, blues, or anything else you can think of! I can also teach you how to improvise and play solos over chord changes or quickly come up with parts on the fly if you're playing in a band or are interested in writing. I learned clarinet as a saxophonist, so I feel like I have a great grasp on the experience someone has just starting out learning to play. I have some exercises and routines that can help to get you comfortable on the instrument and enjoying playing pretty quickly. Experienced Clarinet teacher of 7 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! Clarinet was the Primary instrument I studied while attending Ithaca College to receive my music education degree. I studied under Michael Galván whom is well recognized in the clarinet community. I have had two successful beginner students receive top chair placement in their respective high school and middle school bands.I believe that excellence is grown through practice and dedication.

Although I am primarily a saxophonist, clarinet is a secondary instrument that most saxophonists also have to know how to play. As a performer it is an absolute necessity that I be able to double on the clarinet and be just as proficient.

My goal as a teacher is to provide an in depth understanding of the instrument to my students. Whether we are learning technique specific to the instrument or general musical concepts, it is important to me that I take the time to insure that my students not only learn how to do something, but also the reasons why we are learning a specific concept or technique. At the end of the day, my ultimate goal is to teach you how to teach yourself, so that you may enjoy playing the instrument outside of our lessons together.

A musical instrument family belonging to the group known as the woodwind instruments. It has a single-reed mouthpiece, a straight cylindrical tube with an almost cylindrical bore, and a flared bell. A person who plays a clarinet is called a clarinetist. It is a great instrument for orchestras, jazz, blues or even popular music.
Starting with the basics we will learn breathing and fingering techniques and how to read music. It won't be long before you are playing songs. As the student progresses theory and soloing will be taught if interested.
