About Laura
Music is definitely the universal language, and there isn't a genre I don't love; it's important to me that that aspect be brought to lessons, as well! From humble New Jersey beginnings to an opera career, I've seen the power of what music can do!

Whether it's opera, musical theater, folk, rock, or just public speaking, anything YOU love to do, I would love to teach you! Having taught all ages and levels, from first graders to adults, from someone who's never sung a note in his or her life to semi-professionals, I cater my lessons to what YOU as a student need and are interested in.

Lessons shouldn't be a chore - I like to foster an environment you look forward to being a part of! I also think that music, like any sport, is hard work, and takes seriously practice; even hobbies take concentration and application! I understand and can
work with many schedules and work loads, but I expect my students to put at least half the effort into their lessons that I do!

About Meg
At the age of 4 I began producing musicals in my basement with my sister. This progressed to acting classes, piano lessons, and eventually the school musical in sixth grade. I began taking voice lessons when I was in eighth grade and have never looked back. Through high school, I focused on both classical and musical theatre genres, having leads in high school and community musicals and operettas. While attending the University of Delaware for my Bachelor of Music, I majored in Applied Music: Voice and had the privilege of performing lead roles in Sweeney Todd, The Pirates of Penzance, The Marriage of Figaro, and Die Fledermaus. In addition, I performed two recitals. I was also fortunate enough to be a member of the University of Delaware Chorale, traveling to both China and Spain for tours and competitions. I then attended UD for my Mast
er of Music in Vocal Performance where I maintained a full studio of undergraduate voice minors as a Graduate Teaching assistant.

I took my first pedagogy class at UD and began teaching voice lessons at the Community Music School during my junior year. My experience as a teaching assistant shaped me into the teacher that I am today. I love teaching and helping students reach goals! With my thorough pedagogical training and varied performance experience, I have a great deal to offer my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
I strive to help students find a sense of freedom in order to share their uniqueness.

During my time with you, I strive to assist you in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with your singing. No matter what your goals are - All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping you reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.

I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on your interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and will work on an array of genres with you including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. We will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once you can perform a song from memory.

Words are what separate the voice from any other instrument. Therefore, I will work with you on ways to examine the poetry and lyrics of each song in order to portray the message of the words.

*** Specialties ***
I feel equally at home working on musical theatre and classical styles with students. I have experience working on both with students.

I am currently a junior at Ramapo College studying music education but I am no foreigner to teaching. I have been teaching for some years now with general ages ranging between 3 to 25, in the violin, viola and cello. I have also taught music theory from a beginner's standpoint to a college sophomore level in conjunction with teaching said instruments. I have a passion for teaching that I love to give my students the passion of learning as teaching is not only fun, but also one of the most rewarding experiences in life as is having the guidance and educational support of a good teacher. Students can expect my 110% effort and know they can depend on me for consistency, accuracy and personalized lesson plans based on the level and goals they want to achieve. I aim to foster a supportive learning environment for my students in their hom
es or practice space of their choice as the main root of discontinuity in studies is the lack of support and passion. Feel free to contact me at anytime should any questions arise and remember, music is about having fun, so let's have fun!

Ashley was very helpful to me. I was floundering. I am a brand new 'musician', still learning to read music. I would still be working with her, but I had to move suddenly. She was very encouraging and I hope to be able to continue lessons again with someone in my new location.

About Alex
My name is Alex Domini and I am a fourth generation musician who offers private and semi-private lessons in music literacy, music theory, sight reading, and clarinet. I started my formal training at the age of nine and by high school I was accepted and studying at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music: Precollege Division, double majoring in Classical Voice and Clarinet. In college, I got a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Hartt School of Music, which boasts one of the best Music Education programs in the country. Since graduating, I have worked with multiple composers as a singer to develop music because of my sure-fire techniques to make reading music as simple as reading a book.

In my classes, students will be grounded and centered by the Kodaly method of music pedagogy, while being encouraged to create and express themselves thro
ugh their new understanding of music. In one hour of class, students will enforce ideas taught last class, learn why the rules of music exist, and through curious exploration, learn how to break them.

I am an enthusiastic music lover who believes that an education in music transcends academic success. It inspires empathy, creativity, and new pathways to seeing the world around us. Let's inspire the next generation of creators and innovators with what makes us the most human: music.

Alex is a delight to work with! I am an adult student who has tried and tried and tried to understand music theory but never stuck with it. This is my first time trying one on one lessons vs. a class and Alex's approach paired with his intentional and thoughtful care and attention to my specific goals as a singer wanting to improve theory is a game-changer. It is clear that Alex is a subject matter expert, but he has never once made me feel dumb or embarrassed. Alex is warm, precise, and patient. I would recommend him to anyone I know looking to improve this skillset.

Alex is a fantastic teacher! I came to him as an adult student having tried to learn the basics of clarinet on my own, and he quickly fixed the bad habits and technique mistakes I had picked up in the absence of an instructor. He found fun ways to keep me interested in practicing, while also making sure I worked on technique to form a solid foundation for my playing. Alex is well-versed in several varying musical genres, so he can easily recommend repertoire and stylistic tips appropriate for whichever direction your student wishes to take their clarinet performance.

About Mate
Hi, My name is Mate Solticzky.
I am a piano teacher and composer. I help students for 15 years, basically since I started Conservatory back home. I moved to NYC about 5 years ago. I have a beautiful wife, she is not a musician.
I have two sentences that describe my lessons the most. First, music is something that we `play`. We don`t do music. We play it because the instrument is our toy, a very high skilled but still a toy to play with. And as all the games, music is supposed to be enjoyed.
Second: My principal is not to teach but to help the student. No teacher will teach you to play the music. You will teach yourself. Bach, Mozart, and other composers whoever were or are the most remarkable figures of music history will teach you. So why do you need a teacher? Do you need a teacher? Yes, you do. Everybody does. Learning something i
s like being in a beautiful but huge and sometimes dark forest. Before you enter, you don`t know how big it is. As you proceed deeper and deeper, you will realize that it is a huge territory with a lot more beauty than you could ever imagine before, but also a lot more trap to fall than you could imagine before. Just like in a maze the possibilities are infinite. It is very easy to get lost and give up before you could even take the first look at the hidden treasure. And you are still so far from enjoying it. This is why you need a teacher. A teacher helps you not to get lost. A teacher helps you to get up when you are down. A teacher shows you the doors and discovers, lights up the path for you.
This is what I mean that I help the students. I don`t teach. I don`t think actually `teaching` exists. A teacher builds you up to deal with the problems. The bottom line is on the word `deal`. I show the students how to conquer instead of only surviving!
