I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of reading, theory and performance skills. I specialize in classical music. I use a variety of methods and literature all dependent on personal need and style of each student.

I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of viola playing skills and technique. I specialize in Traditional Classical string music, typically use Essential Elements 2000, Samuel Applebaum methods, Suzuki books, and traditional scales and etude books. I have the following tools available to use during lessons: metronome, tuner, rosin and my music library.

Not only do I have certification in specifically private lessons, but I have a very wide range of experience. I have played classical music, quartet music, new compositions, avant-garde pieces, and also in jazz and rock bands. I taught music professionally in public schools for 5 years, and I've been teaching privately for 7. I'm an active professional performer, as well as a composer, and the former principal violist of The Parker Symphony.

I have been teaching for 6 years. In 2013 I received my Bachelors Degree in music from Bluefield College. I have played for the Rappahannock Youth Symphony and the Bluefield College Orchestra and I have in duets and trios with members of the Roanoke Symphony. I enjoy playing music, because music echoes the soul. Everyone may speak a different language, but all musicians speak the same language of notes and rhythm.

As a session musician, Andy has recorded his viola talents for dozens of artists across the LA area (Hayley Kiyoko, Yore, Zac Poor). As a teacher, he specializes in the Suzuki method, with a strong emphasis on sight reading and expression. He will help take away the intimidation from learning your instrument, and get you having fun to bring your playing to the next level!
