I love performing and teaching! I've performed at multiple venues in New York City, including Carnegie Hall and Off-Broadway. I studied piano, opera performance and musical theater at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and acting at Primary Stages. I'm playing a nurse this season on New Amsterdam and have many other film and TV credits! These qualifications, my positive spirit and belief in my students have yielded outstanding results in their musical and theatrical accomplishments.
I've been teaching voice, guitar, acting and piano lessons for the past six years, as well as coaching students for specific auditions (school plays, national tours, honors choir auditions). Let me aid you in achieving your dreams!

My first vocal teacher and the best!
Ms. Rachel was an amazing vocal teacher! We would always start off with simple and fun warm-ups, breathing techniques, and would practice singing songs from musicals. My first couple lessons she taught me how to sing I Feel Pretty from West Side Story and we both had so much fun with it! After a little while we learned Cups from Pitch Perfect and then we got into the Vaccai book and I learned a couple songs from there. Overall Ms. Rachel was the best! She even offered to Skype a lesson with me since she moved. She cared about me and always helped me improve my voice in every way she could. I love her!
Hi! I'm Dr. Jonathan Saraga; professional musician and educator living in New York City. I have been working as a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and studio musician for almost 2 decades and have been teaching full-time for the past 7, which includes nearly 3 at the University level. I have nearly 10 years of conservatory training, a Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degree, as well as over 20 years experience performing, recording, and competing on an international level.
I’ve been recognized internationally, by way of several organizations for excellence as a trumpeter and composer: 2007-Winner of International Trumpet Guild Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition; 2009-Finalist in Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition; 2011- Selected Participant in School for Improvisational Music Intensive Program; 2014-Callback for the Juil
liard Artist Diploma program auditions; 2015-Selected Participant in Banff International Summer Intensive Program in Jazz and Creative Music ; 2016-Semi Finalist in International Songwriting Competition; 2016-Recipient of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award; 2017-Honorable Mention and Finalist in International Songwriting Competition; 2016-19-Full Scholarship w/ Paid Assistantship/Instructorship for Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder; 2019-Selected Participant in Banff Early Fall Musicians in Residence program; 2019-Finalist in Chamber Music America’s New Jazz Works Grant Competition.
I perform and record as a featured musician with Festival of New Trumpet Music, having participated in two world premieres, and in ensembles led by highly acclaimed and/or Grammy-nominated/winning artists such as Steve Coleman, Henry Cole, Maria Schneider, Darcy James Argue, Orrin Evans, Josh Evans, Jimmy Greene, Tyshawn Sorey, Eric Bergen and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. I've performed at arenas, clubs, and concert halls alike, such as Carnegie Hall, The Putra World Tower, Symphony Space, the Barclay's Center, Dizzy's Club Coco-Cola, and Rockefeller Center to name only a few venues. As a leader, I've been performing original music all over NYC at known creative and jazz venues like Seeds, Cornelia St. Café, The Bar Next Door, Jazz at the Kitano, Shapeshifter Lab and Smalls Jazz Club, which Down Beat magazine considers to be two of the best jazz clubs in the world.
Besides professing a passion and skill-set for music within the ‘jazz’ idiom, my interest in and usage of sound draws from and many other forms of art. I've composed and arranged music for lyricists, improvised music for poetry readings at the Firehouse Space, and have provided musical accompaniment for dance classes, workshops, and performances presented by the Martha Graham Dance Academy and the Jeoffrey Ballet School. I've even co-choreographed short plays and have played for Marc Jacobs fashion runway shows.
My music also extends into the health and wellness community. I've served as a regular performer at the New Life Expo, and as a musical aid for art exhibitions (including a Syrian-post war realist art exhibition), Yoga classes at Jivamukti Jersey City, and meditation classes for WeWork, St. Peter's Church at the Citicorp Center, The Tibet House, Triskelion Arts the Firehouse Space, the Jewish Community Center, the New York Insight Meditation Center, and the NYU Skirball Theater.
As an educator, I have taught all-level/all-age group music playing and appreciation courses for several New York-based organizations: The Afro-Latin Jazz Academy, The Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York, New York Ensemble Classes, the Lyceum Kennedy International School, Jubilee Enrichment Programs, Jazz Empowers and The New York Jazz Academy. I have also completed 6 semesters of service as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I taught multiple playing ensembles as well as three semesters of a 100+ student History of Jazz lecture class for non-majors.
I teach out of a my home apartment studio on the upper east side, complete with weighted 88-key digital piano, Bose high quality speakers, recording equipment, as well as musical media, and tablature spanning many musical genres, cultures and time periods. I also am equipped with a spacious floor space for Yoga, Pilates, Weight Lifting, Meditation, and more.
While I specialize in the following broad areas of musical study, my specialties are not limited to: General Music, Composition, Arranging, Ear Training, Music History (includes classical, jazz, and world musics), Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Songwriting. I also specialize in the following instruments: Trumpet, flugelhorn, and Piano/Keyboards.
Last but not least, while I have invested over 30,000 hours into my musical training, my interests, practices, and skill sets extend beyond sound and visual art, and into the realm of philosophy, science, physics and spirituality. I have been practicing various forms of fitness, meditation and Yoga for the past 5 years, and my studies span the gamut of psychology, philosophy, calisthenics, Astral Projection, Reiki, Vipassana Meditation, Visualization, and much more.
I believe and live by the idea that creativity is an energy that flows through us, and one's creative abilities can be improved and expanded, through the emotional body, which is influenced by one's perceptions. Throughout my training in music, the arts, as well as my physical, mental and spiritual pursuits, I have realized that discipline, creative flow, and love for what one is and what one does can come together and yield great fulfillment and sense of purpose.
I would highly recommend Jonathan as a music teacher. Jonathan is absolutely passionate about music, which is evident by his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. In a short period of time, my daughter's keyboard playing abilities have dramatically increased. I am very grateful to Jonathan for making learning fun for my daughter, who always looks forward to her lessons!

Jonathan has made a great impression with my son. He displays a great combination of patience and encouragement with Nick. I have seen an improvement in his trumpet skills as well as his confidence.
I am a lifelong lover of music and education. I will use my 41years of performance experience to show students how to play guitar, bass, or sing, but more importantly, how to enjoy those things!
I believe music is, first and foremost a source of joy, and my lessons are designed to bring that about. Whether you desire to be a full-time rock star, or just a hobbyist, playing in your church praise band, I can show you how to do it, and have a great time doing it!
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are individualized, based on the needs of the student. I teach all ages, all styles. For guitar, I prefer beginning, or intermediate students, although I think I can help the advanced player as well.
Bass- I teach all ages and skill levels.
*** Studio Equipment *** Pro Tools, Reason, cakewalk pro, Garage Band, and many other software p

Mark teaches from different perspectives, excellent first lesson and I'm looking forward to being his student for future lessons!
May 29, 2016
Unfortunately, yesterday was my last lesson with Mark, as I am moving to Guam. I would definitely not be giving up my weekly lesson with him if that weren't the case! I've learned so much in the short couple months taking lessons from him. I would recommend him to anyone of any skill level. Very helpful and kind. :)
I'm an opera singer with seven years of stage experience in Germany and the US, including top houses like the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin, and, since moving to the Bay Area, I have worked with Opera San Jose and Lamplighter's Theater. I have a MA in singing from the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin, and I have taught others to sing since 2014.
I am also a 200 Hour Certified Yogalign teacher. Yogalign teaches the body how to come into natural, functional, comfortable alignment and strengthens it to stay there. I use it while teaching voice, but I also love to teach it on its own.
In voice lessons, I constantly incorporate alignment practices because we use our whole bodies to produce sound. A free breath, which means good alignment, is the foundation of good voice technique.
that singing is a movement practice like any other. When we move our legs and feet properly, we move through the water, and we call that swimming. When we use our breath and our resonance properly while our vocal chords vibrate, we call that singing. It is all a matter of coordination, one we either naturally understood in childhood, or one we must be taught. It is my joy to guide people to this knowledge of their voices.
With public speakers, my goal is to help people feel at home in their bodies and command the room with their voices while giving presentations. I have given seminars teaching scientific researchers in Berlin and Potsdam, helping them to present results in ways that are both informative and inspiring.
Students in each area can expect to progress steadily week to week, provided they do the assigned exercises in between. The voice, the body, and language skills are all muscles we must train daily to expect any progress.
I look forward to working with creative students who have a passion for self-discovery and honest self-expression. Let's have fun!
Gwendolyn is my first vocal coach. She is helping me to access the power and confidence in my speaking and singing voice. Using full body movement and vocal exercises she opened up a world of singing for me that I never knew before. She has helped me to discover my body as an instrument (crazy right?!). Gwendolyn has a tremendous amount of knowledge on the mechanics of the body, the way sound is made in our bodies and of course music! I am more powerful and confident in my voice than I have ever been. Gwendolyn is amazing!!

Working with Gwendolyn brought forth several break throughs even after just one session. She intuitively guided me into alignment, and with such efficacy & ease, my connection to body and breath continues to deepen now, months later. The work I've done on my own or with other teachers came to a (an aligned, you could say) clarity while working with this gifted teacher - definitely recommend!

Gwendolyn is the best! I loved her yogalign class. She’s so warm and open and made me feel really comfortable just being myself and trying new things.
I am a working professional actor, who has been teaching since the 80's. I think that acting is acting. Once you have a solid foundation, the difference between stage or scene is minor. I like to help my students find the most natural and seamless way to a character by using the text and various exercises. I find teaching and acting to be a tremendous joy and I love sharing that delight.
I am frequently in NYC for work and auditions and can come to you if you are not in the Beacon, NY area.
In the past year, I have done Co and guest starring roles on the following TV shows: MURPHY BROWN; GOTHAM; MADAM SECRETARY; LUKE CAGE; ELEMENTARY; THE OTHER TWO; and the upcoming "THE LOUDEST VOICE" on Showtime, with Russell Crowe. I have been in many National and regional commercials. I have done theatre at such prestigious venues as Woolly Mammoth
, Dorset Theatre Festival (Winner of the "Best Actress" award for VALLEY SONG) , and The Public Theatre, to name a few.
I began working as a professional actor and got my auditions and booked work without representation. My Acting Without an Agent™ technique still gets me in the room and I would love to share that knowledge as well.
Shauna is a professional director, acting and voice teacher, playwright and the artistic director of Voice Theatre, a company she founded in Paris, in 1988. Since then she has have directed over forty plays in eight countries from Aberbeen, Scotland to San Antonio, Texas to London, England to Paris, France.
(New offer: call the Take Lessons Sales Team to book one lesson so you can get an idea of how we might work together).
I have taught acting and acting in many universities and professional theatre training programs on both sides of the Atlantic. I am currently a mentor for the New York Foundation for the Arts. I have led hundreds of workshops and individual classes where singers and actors have shed non-productive habits and built healthy expressive acting instruments and voices. I have taught actors from the Royal Shakespea
re Company to jazz artists to Broadway singers and actors.
I am a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon and College at Purchase where I earned a BFA in acting. My post grad work was at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, UK. I am published by Drama Books, "Voice and Speech Warm-up", University of Nebraska, "Pushing Through", Arts Navigator-London, "Taking Legacy to Germany" and featured in Cune Press, "Stage Warriors". This Spring I have been commissioned by Texas Tech University to write a new play.
My students experience improvements and change most weeks. You'll become the master of specific exercises that will unlock tension blocks in each part of your body and voice. You'll develop strength, expressiveness and confidence and as a result you'll have a technique that will solve challenges in rehearsal and performance. You will learn how to solve rehearsal problems and challenges on your own.
I teach students of all ages to "own" their own instruments as constantly developing artists whether it is acting or speaking or singing. I work out of my studio in the East Village in NYC, or in my home in Upsate, NY and online. I teach many different styles.
Here are a few of the schools I have taught voice and acting: The Stella Adler Studio of Acting, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, T. Schreiber Studio and the New Actor's Workshop. In England at: The Mountview Theatre Conservatory, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Queen Margaret College and Middlesex University – all members of the Professional Theatre Training Programme of Great Britain. I have been a guest artist at Bowdoin College, Williams College and Harden-Simmons College.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a better artist!
It's an amazing feeling when you find someone who is a master at the craft and can teach it too!
Shauna's previous extensive theatre training and instruction is UNDENIABLE. Because of this, she brings much more to the table than the average acting coach.
She made me realize there's SO much more than just breaking down a scene and creating a character. She made me think about where the character is going physically as well as emotionally, and why. I continue to grow and improve with each lesson with her. I'm so lucky to have found Shauna, and strongly recommend her to all actors.

Shauna is an amazing teacher! With her tools and teaching techniques she guides you to the place where your voice is physically mentally and emotionally connected, able to work and produce results that every artist is seeking to accomplish-reaching the audience. She. Is kind, compassionate and makes you work hard all at the same time to get you to the place you need to be as an artist. Thank you Shauna! ♥️

Shauna is an absolutely incredible voice/acting teacher. She took the time to meet me where I was and encouraged me to be confident in the skills I already possessed. As a dancer, it is often scary to use your voice because it isn’t something we often exercise. Shauna helped me gain incredible knowledge in a new instrument. I was preparing for an important audition and with the tools she gave me I was able to have incredible success on a nearly impossible time constraint! I highly recommend Shauna for all levels :)
Hello and welcome. My name is Gigi. I have been teaching dance, dance fitness, and meditation for 30 years. I love the personal relationship with each student as together we bring forth skill, style, self confidence, expression, well being, and peace. My primary dance training was received from the Mid Hudson Ballet Company, with teaching certification from Music in Motion, Inc. My meditation training is rooted in 7 years of monastic life and 30 years of integrating the principles and practices into my being. I am a very compassionate, friendly, intuitive person who teaches with warmth, sensitivity, patience, and attention to detail. I look forward to bringing all of the above into sessions with you to help fulfill your personal goals and interests.
My relationship with dance began at the age of 3, when my mother enrolled me in my fir
st ballet class with the hope that it would help me gain the confidence to come out from my hiding place behind her back. Not only did it encourage me to overcome my excessively painful shyness, but it grew an everlasting love and shelter for me. I went on to receive the foundation of my training at Estelle & Alfonso Performing Arts and the Russian Ballet School of the Mid-Hudson Ballet Company. During my adolescent years, I became a teacher at the school and a performing member of the company. I also received the honor of performing in Harlequinade with the New York City Ballet, studying at the Craft of Choreography Conference on scholarship, and attending a variety of ballet, jazz, and modern dance classes by notable teachers in multiple schools and venues in the northeast.
In my adult years, I've enjoyed performing on many occasions, especially as a guest artist with Dog-Eared Dancers and in choreographic partnership with Anna Mayta of Anna Mayta Dance Fusion. I'm grateful to have expanded my modern dance and teaching experience with Laurie Sepe Marder, and to have studied Kuchipudi Classical Indian Dance with Kantham Chatlapalli, as well as ancient and modern Hula with Kumu June Tanoue. Under the mentorship of Barbara Thuesen, I received my certification in ballet teaching and choreography from Music in Motion, Inc. I was then accepted into the dance department at the West Australia Academy of Performing Arts, but chose to remain close to home and open White Lotus Ballet in 2004 instead.
Since then, I have had the ongoing pleasure of teaching dance to dozens of children and adults in my space, as well as at preschools, daycare centers, yoga studios, and special events. My teaching style and content continue to evolve with the gathering of insight, compassion, and experience.
In addition to traditional dance, that evolution has also expanded to include teaching meditation and healing dance. I am a very devotional soul and a natural intuitive empathic healer. So, i find all the gifts, talents, inspiration, and wisdom I receive come together in a variety of forms and ways I teach to touch the heart and desired interest of each student. Again, I look forward to creating lessons that fulfill you in that way.
I took dance lessons from Gigi with a focus on self expression and working through issues that I was holding onto on any particular day. I am 60+ years old and never danced before. Where my typical perspective of myself standing in front of a mirror is not positive, I somehow was transformed into seeing beauty. Gigi is a beautiful person, very patient , non judging. Her goal was for me to meet my goal, even when it changed from week to week. Sometimes we worked on dance technique, other times using movement to work through feelings. I loved it.

Working with Gigi during a challenging time in my life was an amazing experience, her empathy, her nurturing quality made my experience truly lovely. She finds inspiration for movement therapeutic work by what the students needs are. After my classes with Gigi I feel spiritually rejuvenated.
"Christian Castro has been hands down the most influential Hispanic actor I've worked with so far! I expect to work again with him and to see his talents s
hine very soon. His uniqueness in his style and undoubtable passion for the craft truly pays off in his work."
"Fawn is empathetic, fun and able to pinpoint problem areas quickly. She is able to clearly explain how to fix trouble spots and is very encouraging and po
sitive. She is results oriented, geared toward real world success. She has helped me countless times and I am so appreciative!"
"Claire is a professional. She is a natural born teacher who immediately clicked with my son. She gave him the tools he needed for an upcoming audition at
a theatre conservatory. Anyone from beginner to dedicated professional would benefit from private lessons with her. We feel very lucky we found her with so many less qualified people out there."
"A great first lesson!"
"Enthusiastic and very nice"
"The first lesson is very informative with a pretty laid-back feel to it."
"Ian was very helpful in working w/ me on my script. I had an idea of what I wanted, and we outlined and thought about the story and characters before I ev
en started writing. Definitely in a better place with my script now! Only "complaint" is that sometimes one class a week isn't enough and I wish we had more time."
"Donnabelle is knowledgeable, flexible, and accommodating. She targets the lessons to the needs of the student to achieve acting goals."
"Gabriel is an awesome teacher! He has helped me not only with my speaking voice, but he has helped me with the underlying issues of it with my confidence
and self-esteem. Gabriel is an all-around good teacher to help in the areas of arts to helping you break habits that eat away your personality. I would definitely recommend him for any kind of person, young or old."
Good dancers can make even the most complicated, strenuous techniques look effortless and fluid. If you've ever watched an experienced dancer perform a tap routine, you probably watched in disbelief as their feet turned into a blur of movement that seemed to move independently from the rest of their body. Sometimes the sound effects are even more impressive; when done well, tap dance is a musical art form that creates its own rhythm.
