My philosophy is to help the students focus on their mental and physical states while practicing and performing. If both their body and mind are relaxed when playing, they will accomplish more and be happier with their performance!
I have been taking private flute lessons for over 14 years and have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies. I began teaching my own private lessons six years ago, and since then I have learned a lot about helping students progress quickly and efficiently.
Each in person lesson will begin with a duet so that I can evaluate the student's progress since their last lesson. Every online lesson will begin with a warm up. We will proceed to discuss their practicing and what the student believes is working for them and what they are struggling with. I can then address any issues or concerns that they have throughout the lesson.
Students will be asked to study technical and tonal exercises as well as repertoire. I will help the student ...
Leanna is available for at-home and online lessons and loves to teach students of all ages. She has been playing the flute for 16 years and is eager to share her knowledge and expertise of the instrument! Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching comes through in each lesson. She likes to tailor each lesson to the student's various interests in music.
Leanna grew up in a learning environment, as both her parents are teachers. Her mother teaches music in her hometown, so Leanna had the fortune of observing and listening to countless private lessons in her home. She has gained experience teaching group and private lessons of her own for the past 6 years. If you do not see an available time on her schedule that works for you, please feel free to contact her with the time that you prefer!
Leanna received her Master's Degree in Flute Perfo
rmance from Northwestern University where she taught the non-major flute students and is currently pursuing a Performer's Certificate at Lynn Conservatory in Boca Raton, FL. Leanna is excited to meet new students and help them create a plan for their success!
I've been playing the flute most of my life and studied with a few of the best flute professors in the country. I have been teaching privately for 7 years. My teaching style is very flexible, though I expect dedication and hard work from my students. As my student you will learn not only flute, but you will gain a general knowledge of music theory and harmony, knowledge of musical phrasing and interpretation, as well as proper movement and body alignment similar to Alexander techniques.

'm a full-time musician in the music industry for 13 years now performing with such artists as J.C. Chasez (N'Sync), Tony-award winner Alice Ripley along with several theater companies. I've also coached multiple band programs for 4 years now. Success comes from having a thorough understanding of each instrument I play. This allows for multiple approaches to learning each instrument, rapid development of the student and involving fun teaching techniques. You'll learn fast and enjoy doing it!
Music lessons were such a chore in my childhood. My mother drudgingly dragged me to lessons every week and forced me to practice at least once a week before my next lesson. I soon met a new teacher who offered a different perspective and genuinely made playing music fun.
I can honestly say that it changed my life.
I wouldn't come to understand how until much later. I couldn't have even imagined becoming a professional musician until college but I was certainly given the tools to be successful in whatever I pursued living in such a demanding and competitive world. Self-confidence, active critical thinking skills, consistent work ethic, maintaining a healthy imagination, a lifelong appreciation for the arts. These all stem from my time in lessons and later my career in music.
As a professional musician in the San Diego and Los A
ngeles area, I perform regularly with many different music groups and solo artists including Frankie J, San Diego Symphony, San Diego Winds, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and many more. I have also coached the band programs at Helix, Hoover, Del Norte and Rancho Buena Vista High Schools on all woodwinds.
Originally a classically-trained saxophonist (concert band, orchestral, solo literature), I currently hold a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Music emphasis in Jazz from California Institute of the Arts and Bachelors of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University. I specialize in teaching intermediate and advanced students but also work very efficiently with beginners.
In the spirit of my previous teachers, I encourage new and fun methods of music instruction while still reinforcing the basics. All with the idea of having fun while playing music!
I have been working with Jesse for a few years now. I am bummed that the subject section of this review only lets me select one subject. Jesse has helped me with ear training, theory and composition, piano, performance, harmony, and overall musician advice. I cannot think of a more authentic and caring mentor and teacher out there that could be as efficient and helpful as Jesse has been to my career. I have seen a lot of progress in my musical career and my confidence as a musician has grown thanks to Jesse! He genuinely cares about the art and his students, he gets involved in their music careers and makes sure that the lesson is learned. He is familiar with many approaches and works hard for his students. Music is very lucky to have Jesse as a teacher!

Jesse is a great teacher for musicians of any level. His passion for music and music education is evident in the way he communicates with his students. Jesse is extremely patient, and will cater to your individual needs. He's a teacher who is truly on your side and aspires to help you reach your goals! I highly recommend lessons with Jesse, he makes playing fun!
I have taught flute privately for over 8 years. I believe that lessons should be fun and informative. I also believe in hard work and collaboration. I expect students to be prepared for each lesson with all necessary materials and eager to learn new material each week. As I mentioned earlier, I believe lessons should be collaborative meaning that the student and I will decide together what materials are best suited for their goals and needs.
I have a Master of Music in Flute Performance Degree with Distinction from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2008 and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance, Magna Cum Laude, from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia in 2005. I have performed in numerous master classes as well as been a member of the National Wind Symphony in New York City. I earned merit scholarships from both the Longy School of Music and Kennesaw State University. Carey is excellent. I'm just getting started and I really like her approach to teaching me how to play the flute! She's very patient and also a very good listener!
I have been playing for 13 years, but am young enough to remember (and still feel!) the struggles of practicing and playing the flute. In addition, haven taken 7 years of Music Theory and Ear Training at music conservatories, I can provide a great way for beginners to learn to read music as well as to hear it.
As a Suzuki teacher trained with the SAA, I have studied effective teaching methods that work for students of all ages and levels.
I will incorporate these aspects into your lessons: -scales/technique -articulation -tone -intonation -vibrato -rhythm -musicality/being inspired -how to practice/practice methods
Happy flute playing! :)

I have premiered works by contemporary composers such as Paul Gaita and Patrick Burns, given several solo recitals, and studied with NYC multiple woodwind artists Todd Groves, Dr. Joseph d'Auguste, and Vito Chiavuzzo.
