Hello Future Students!
Whether you want to pursue a Musical Career or simply learn how to Play your Favorite Tunes for friends and family, I am here as your Teacher and Guide. I teach at my own home, at the Student's home or through the use of Skype.
I am originally from Ann Arbor. I spent much of this century living in NYC and prior to that I lived in Chicago. Those experiences vastly helped me develop Networking, Performance and Teaching experience. I now live in southwest Detroit near River Rouge.
As a Father of four, I have had the joy in teaching my own children Guitar, Saxophone, Songwriting, Composition and Keyboard. As a parent I have found that Patience and Encouragement is often the best form of support.
It has been proven that learning Music helps develop intuition, self-awareness, and social skills as well as imp
rove in other subjects not directly related to the arts such as Mathematics and Science.
One of the most important aspects of playing Music is being able to Play by Ear. This has been a priceless gift that I was born with and have developed throughout my life. I encourage all musicians, young and old, to do the same. The use of simple Rhythmic Dictation and Ear Training exercises can do wonders for "picking out" Beats and Harmonies no matter what Genre we are interested in.
I attended music courses at The Boston School of Contemporary Music and Thomas Jefferson College (MI). I have a BA at Columbia College Chicago double majoring in Music Composition and English .
My band THIRD BORDER's "Sun of Water; Sea of Light" was selected to be nominated for the Grammy's as The Best Alternative Album of the Year in 2006. On this record, I played Guitar, Saxophone, sang Lead Vocal and wrote all the Songs. If you are a Songwriter, we can polish up your approach.
As a Composer, I have done Sound Design for Film, Dance, Spoken Word and Multi-media Performance - most notably with renowned poet Anne Carson and former members of The Merce Cunningham Dance Co. I also formed and composed two symphonies for my 12-member saxophone orchestra in NYC. Currently, I am rehearsing new work with a Detroit-based multiinstrumental orchestra.
I hope to talk to you soon! Benjamin
*** Lesson Details *** My teaching style is relaxed with a forte on Patience and Encouragement. Though I have specific expectations on what needs to be learned, I gear each lesson towards the student's wishes and their personal direction in Creativity. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can guide you wherever you are headed!
For Guitar (acoustic or electric), you will learn the fundamentals of Music Theory, Chord Structure, varied Strumming and Picking Techniques, and Scale Positions to travel from one part of the neck to the other. Any song you wish to learn, I can teach!

I teach 2nd year Piano and Drums/Percussion directing you into Intermediate level.
For those leaning toward the experimental genres, I am well-versed in the use of Electronics. Much can be accomplished with my lessons on Sound-Scape Improvisation either as 1 on 1 or Group Workshops.

We had our first saxophone lesson with Benjamin today and it was excellent! He is clearly a master that can assess a student’s skill level and adapt the lesson to suit their needs. He is just what we needed :)

About Peter Q
I'm a multi-instrumentalist from the Northwest with lots of love for teaching people to groove. I got my bachelor's degree in music from Whitman College with an emphasis in Jazz Performance. I can teach anyone to rock, swing or get unreasonably funky. Lessons can be casual or serious and I'm down to tell you how to get to Carnegie Hall or onto the stage at the local jam.
*** Lesson Details *** I like to teach my students what they want to learn! I'm always game for setting up a fun path to being able to play your favorite songs as fast as possible. I don't scold or shame and having a blast is the name of my game. I can teach you to improvise, read music, become a strummer or virtuoso, it's all up to you.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in the basement studio, piano, guitars, amps, hand drums, a bass, woodwinds, FULL DRUM SET!
*** Travel Equipment *** I can travel with a sax, flute, guitar, electric bass, and a didgeridoo....
*** Specialties *** I'm a jazz musician! But I listen to and perform all styles of music. I have written string quartets, been the front man for a funk band, and recorded every style of music under the sun. I can teach Bach and the Beatles and explain how/ and why they intersect and are similar musically.
My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.
I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.
I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy.
*** Lesson Details *** My music lessons are unique for three main reasons:
1. I h
ave a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.
2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.
3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.
*** Equipment *** Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.
*** Specialties *** Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to listen to, study, and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.
My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.
Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).
My daughter is loving her cello lessons with Ray even more than she expected. She feels she is really improving.

My son and daughter both take from Ray and they love him!!! My daughter started with him after she had had 2 other teachers and she improved immediately. She loves going to Ray because he teaches her to play the songs that she likes. Now she plays so many songs for memory!! My son loves going to piano and is always excited to see Ray.
Hello! I specialize in teaching younger beginners ages 5-12 the basics of drumming in a way that helps your child locate and develop their innate musical senses and skills. I help kids learn how to "feel" music naturally and how to "speak" the musical language with ease. I focus my lessons on fun experiences that can't help but lead kids down a path of musical discovery and development.
Hello! My name is Mike and I'd love to help you learn how to play the drums! I'm a lifelong music lover and I started playing the drum set at age 12. I love helping my students learn the drum beats and fills from their favorite songs. I center my teaching around fostering a natural ease and love for playing the instrument, while building strong technique, notation reading skills, and musical knowledge. I have a relaxed personality, and I am quick to recognize your learning style. Whether you excel at learning by ear, or if you are a natural reader, I will help your strengths shine through while also taking the time to strengthen your weaknesses. Most of all, I love to groove, and would love to help you!
Mike is one of 4 drum teachers to enter my son Larry’s life, and absolutely the best one. Larry has shown more improvement in the last 6 months with Mike than in the last 4 years combined with all of his previous teachers.
As my son has a disability, it is often hard to find a teacher that can not only help him to find enjoyment and enthusiasm, but treat him like the serious musician he is. The best part of his teaching… Larry doesn’t even realize he’s learning. To him, they just jam.
I’ve seen my son grow not just as a drummer, but as a musician and student since Mr. Mike became his instructor. Now, he can listen better, play better, and have more fun on his instrument. I am very grateful for Mr. Mike’s patience, compassion, and skill set as a drum instructor and for the confidence he brought to my son.

It’s hard to express how much Mike’s drumming lessons have made a difference in our son’s life. Mike is a visionary teacher who cares about and connects with his students.
I use a variety of method books for drum set, mallet percussion, and snare drum, depending on the student's level and their area of interest. I also share exercises and approaches that I have picked up over the years from teachers and other sources, and I often create exercises on the spot to address the student's unique needs. A good practice method is a tool that the student can apply to anything they're interested in; it also encourages them and allows them to have more fun.
I have been teaching privately since 2010, when I accepted a position as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green State University. My responsibilities included teaching private lessons to undergraduate percussion majors and coaching percussion ensembles. I began teaching students from middle school through high school age around the same time, and my students have since included a number of adults.
I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels of experience, as they all bring something unique to their lessons and challenge me to adapt to their varied styles of learning.
My daughter was shy at the beginning, but Stephen was able to warm her up and get her talk. Even she didn't learn a lot, she is excited about the new class coming next week.
Stephen is good at teaching her in different conversations.
He is a good teacher for kids. Highly recommend!

(The Suzuki method is an internationally known music curriculum and teaching philosophy. The method aims to create an environment for learning music which parallels the linguistic environment.)
I believe in creating an environment for my students that makes them passionate , comfortable & inspires them to learn. Creating an interesting schedule that leads them to ask for more. Understanding my students behavior & adjusting my teaching style accordingly helps me deliver a successful student. Learn with fun..
Music & Drums is my Life since 1995, Teaching is my passion.. did over 200 gigs. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. Performing almost half the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play & shred stage with BB KING on one of my gigs.My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio as well students home for the last 20 years now. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm
not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages! Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs..
Along with hand drums such as doumbek, I can teach you to transfer rhythms & techniques to other percussion instruments. At first I thought I couldn't learn middle Eastern instruments or gongs, but discovered I could. Learn to hold a steady beat to support the music, or someone soloing and eventually learn to solo yourself. My lessons build on the lessons before to develop a wide vocabulary. We'll explore and play other percussion instruments, too, if desired. Drum and be merry, come one, come all!
I am a singer-songwriter, arranger, guitarist, band/chorus/ensemble director, music teacher and consultant with over 50 years experience in the music business. My ensembles play for conventions, conferences, fairs, festivals, school assemblies, and special events. I also bring my music to assisted living, elder & memory care facilities, nursing homes & rehab centers, even prisons.
My style of teaching is holistic, multi-disciplinary, patient, inclusive & fun. I teach singing, guitar, hand drums (and small percussion instruments), ukulele. The practicum comes with theory.

"We had a wonderful experience with Dan as my son's drum instructor. My son started at a fairly young age (6) and was interested in playing more what he h
eard on the radio, anywhere from Taylor Swift to Metallica. Dan was extremely patient in developing his lessons with my son by incorporating these types of songs in his lesson and keeping my son's interest up throughout the 30 minute lesson/"jam session." I'd highly recommend Dan to anyone interested in learning drum skills like those of Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, and other rock and roll legends."
"Always has something to challenge you

As a drummer, you have the most important job in the band, besides songwriting. You show the guitar player and the bass player where the groove should be, hold the band together, and drive the band forward. You have to keep time in your …
