Terrible. Only taught 30 minutes out of 60 minute sessions. On the 3 session I mentioned it and he said he didn’t think my son needed more than that even though we paid for it. Was so disrespectful!!!! Never again!!! Highly unprofessional when asked about why he cut the lessons short. Please don’t leave your kids with this instructor work paying attention. He will get over on you if he thinks you’re not involved.

About Alethia

Alethia is great. She is working with my 7 yr. old daughter as a beginner in violin. She teaches in a way that is fun, appropriate, and respectful. My daughter has already learned so much and looks forward to her lessons with Alethia each week.

Alethia is very knowledgeable about technique and skilled at teaching.

Alethia is a very talented teacher and violinist. She is extremely professional, attentive and accommodating to her students needs/goals. As an older student with no musical background, she has made the violin less intimidating and more accessible by breaking it down and making it less complex and easier to understand. While, I've only been with her a few years, I'm very proud of the progress I've made with her. If you are interested in taking up the violin, I highly recommend her.

"Great pleasure working with Kelvin

Kelvin is not only an amazing, kind-hearted, smart and trustworthy person but he is also one of the best musicians I have seen around the Chicago area. I have been in the music business for most of my life having taken many violin and piano lessons from different people and Kelvin has to be the most patient musician I have collaborated with yet. I recommend Kelvin to anyone looking to learn to play music - young - and - old. He is extremely passionate about music and continuously never fails to inspire me."

"My 10 year old son had been taking face to face weekly lessons in a local academy prior to his first online lesson with Margaret. She made my son feel comfortable and she took a very "hands on" approach in learning where my son was at in terms of skills and knowledge and getting right to work. Margaret was open to teaching songs my son likes to play in addition to those in the workbook. Overall, a great first lesson!"

"There are a number of beginners and comeback kids attempting to learn the violin without teacher. Honestly, at one point, I really thought I would be one of them. I’m in my mid 50’s and I had violin lessons when I was a kid. I thought I can practice again through internet teachers like YouTube.

I bought a violin made in China in EBay. At the end of 3 months, I still couldn't play anything with any satisfaction, thinking the violin was not good. I was very disappointed with the violin and myself.

But I couldn't let the idea go. Several months later I started searching prospective teachers. Finally, I contacted Tigran and we decided to give an interview, and Tigran has been my teacher ever since.

At my first real lesson, while he was tuning my violin, I noticed the violin made totally different sound. I was so shocked. It was not the violin; it was me who could not pull the sound from the violin. He gave me something incredibly valuable. He taught me how to draw the bow across the strings without making that horrible scratchy sound that I could not get rid of. It was magical. Maybe that's not a big deal to anyone else, but it was huge for me.

Over the past month, he has given me so many valuable lessons - how to hold the bow, how to practice each challenging skill, tone, timing, what is the best order to learn a piece, how the arm, the wrist, and the elbow should move, and so much more.

I couldn't get those things from a book. Certainly there are books out there that cover it, but I needed timely and simple correction in terms that made sense to me. The speed at which things are absorbed increased exponentially with his guidance.

The best part is, when something isn't right, he knows exactly why. It's almost as if he sits in my practice room with me all week because he nails it every time. Moreover, he knows more than one approach to helping me understand how to fix it.

Everyone can learn, but not everyone can teach. Not only is Tigran a good violinist, he is a great instructor. I know I am often frustrated, but it is never because he doesn't give me what I need to succeed. It's because I don't have enough time to devote to applying the principals he taught.

So here's to all the fantastic violin teachers out there. Even if you don't hear us say thank you often enough, know that you are making a difference in someone's life. And to Tigran, if you ever read this - Thanks!"

"Excited about learning more!!!

Mark is an excellent teacher. He helped me correct my stand and holding the violin and hand position which has me playing much better. We had to back up to the basics but that will help me be a better violinist. He also has been flexiable about changing dates and time to fit my needs. I recommend him to anyone!"

"As an adult student, Nicholas is a fantastic instructor. He corrects technique rather than focusing on small mistakes (like a flubbed note). He's very easy to work with and challenges me each lesson so that I am never bored and never feel like I am wasting time working on perfecting a two note exercise because he pushes me to play further and further in the practice book. Absolutely the best experience for an adult student (any student, really)."

Violin Scales for Beginners [G Major Scale Tutorial & More!]

One of the most important aspects when learning how to play the violin is understanding scales. Learning scales will give you a solid foundation as you begin to explore new pieces of music.
