I work with each student individually to tailor lessons to their needs. I am currently accepting students of all ages and levels. Together, we will work on the fundamentals of flute playing, rhythm, tone development, and of course, fun flute music! I hold a masters in music performance and am currently pursuing my doctorate in flute performance at The Graduate Center, CUNY.

About Sarah
The New York Times praised Sarah for combining "thoughtful musicality with virtuosity in her alternately energetic and delicate account of a flute line laden with light multiphonics and unusual timbres." A leading performer of contemporary classical music, Sarah is a member of The Parhelion Trio, an all-female flute, clarinet, and piano ensemble known for their energetic and "effervescent" (The Strad) playing. She is also a frequent contributor to the New York Philharmonic's Very Young Composers Program, where she gives demonstrations on the capabilities of the flute.

Sarah believes in helping students set their own goals and markers of success. The knowledge passed down to her students consists of practical techniques for approaching the instrument, the embodiment of rhythm, and a natural approach to musicality. With these skills, stu
dents can gain confidence and contentment in their journey of studying a musical instrument. This holds true whether the student is a complete beginner, an enthusiast, or an advanced student aiming for a career in music.

Sarah is currently pursuing her doctorate in flute performance at The Graduate Center, CUNY. Her dissertation is an exploration of the narratives, techniques, and histories of flute masterclasses. In addition to private teaching, she is also a music professor at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn. Sarah holds a master's degree in music performance from New York University where she studied with one of the great living innovators of the flute.

In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 7 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students€™ awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for one€™s creativity.

About Roberta
Flutist, Roberta M., is equally at home playing classical and new music. I Care If You Listen has extolled her “lush, full tones… even among the best professionals, not many flute players sound so compelling in a lower register.” Praising her “extreme adventurousness,” New York Concert Review said she “riveted with her performance, inspiring one to want a repeated hearing.” Roberta is a founding member of the Cadillac Moon Ensemble, a quartet of unusual instrumentation dedicated to commissioning and performing new works. To date, the group has commissioned over fifty pieces.

Roberta holds a Bachelor of Music with highest honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master of Music from SUNY-Purchase College, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the City University of New York Graduate Center. Her teachers include Robert Dick, Tara H
elen O’Connor, Alexa Still, and Jean Rosenblum. Roberta resides in Brooklyn, New York where she teaches privately and is on faculty at Great Neck Music Conservatory.

Roberta has performed with groups including Duo RoMi (with pianist Mirna Lekic), the Portland String Quartet, SEM Ensemble, Wet Ink Ensemble, Argento Chamber Ensemble, Wordless Music Orchestra, Ensemble Moto Perpetuo, Lunatics at Large, Kagel Nacht, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Cheyenne Symphony, and the Greeley Philharmonic in venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tulley Hall, Merkin Hall, The Kennedy Center, Bargemusic (with tenor Robert White), and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As a guest artist, she has appeared at Bloomsburg University and the University of Southern Maine. She has recorded on New Dynamic Records, Meta, Bridge, and Innova Records.

Roberta has been a Bang on a Can Summer Institute fellow and a participant in the Institute and Festival of Contemporary Performance at Mannes College, as well as participating in festivals at Banff and Domaine Forget. Roberta recently won the Artists International Special Presentation Award and was presented in her debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. I am a 20 year musician with 11 years teaching experience. Born and raised in New York City, I attended Laguardia high school for music and art and afterward Queens College majoring in music. My main instruments are Clarinet, Drums, and Saxophone, but i also have a strong background in Piano, Trumpet, and Flute. I've taken private music lessons for the past 15 years with world class musicians, among them David Weber and Howard Hirsch. I've performed in every major concert hall in New York City, including Carnegie Hall when i was only 11 years old. I performed alongside many famous musicians, including the late Tito Puente.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching includes all aspects of music; Musical theory, sight singing, as well as Music History. My teaching style allows the child to have fun while they learn their instrument, but I emph
asize a strong practice regiment. Your child will understand that while learning music and an instrument can be fun, there will be some work involved if they want to become great. I usually use either the Alfred or Rubank method books to supplement a curriculum that I tailor make for each individual student. Any question or confusion a student has about anything during the lesson will be explained in detail and dealt with until he/she understands the concept. I've had many students pass all levels of the ABRSM and NYSSMA exams as well as receive academic scholarships for musical excellence.

I teach flute at the New School for Leadership and the Arts. I'm happy to work with beginners who are also learning how to read music and play in ensembles.

I teach to the abilities, passions, and ambitions of the individual student, ever pushing their musicianship and proficiency on the instrument.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Custom built lesson plans depending on age and level. Lots of duets and CD accompaniment. Get a great tone on your flute and improve your sight reading in weeks!

About Monica
I'm a performing artist and music teacher. I received my Bachelors and Masters degree in vocal performance at Boston's New England Conservatory, where I was a member of the jazz, classical, and third-stream departments. I also spent 8 years gigging in Berlin, Germany and teaching adults and teenagers. However, I've always also enjoyed working with kids; especially introducing them to music through piano, language, movement, role-playing, and singing. I have the most experience teaching piano, and I think it's the best instrument to start on, if you don't know much about music. But flute was my first instrument, and singing is my forte!

Monica is a great instructor. She instructs a lot of children and has tons of patience and a great sense of humor - I'm an adult and this patience and humor carries over to my age group as well. She's excellent with all types of music on the piano and vocal coaching as well - she'll learn anything you want and teach it back to you - she's tough too, make sure you do the basics, and you'll get a lot out of her instruction.

I have been playing for 12 years, but am young enough to remember (and still feel!) the struggles of practicing and playing the flute. In addition, haven taken over 4 years of Music Theory and Ear Training at music conservatories, I can provide a great way for beginners to learn to read music as well as to hear it.
I will incorporate these aspects into your lessons:
-scales/technique
-articulation
-tone
-intonation
-vibrato
-rhythm
-musicality/being inspired
-how to practice/practice methods

Happy flute playing! :)
