Though our experience with Jiawei was brief (just three lessons as a summer fill-in for our regular teacher), our daughter very much enjoyed working with her. Jiawei is certainly someone we would pursue as a regular teacher if we had that need.

I love teaching the violin! In my five years of teaching, I have taught all ages and all levels of experience. No matter what type of music you are trying to learn, it is important that you have a solid technical foundation in order to play whatever music speaks to your heart. In addition to teaching you the mechanics of violin playing, it is also important to me that you understand the "why"- why certain techniques work better than others.

Two years ago, I injured left arm and thought that I wouldn't be able to play the violin ever again. I basically had to re-teach myself the violin, and not take anything in my playing for granted. This radically changed not only my physical approach to playing the violin but also my mental approach. A mistake made while playing is not the end of the world, but is in fact an opportunity to learn and become even better.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student understand a concept that they've been struggling with, or play something that ...

My 10 year old son had been taking face to face weekly lessons in a local academy prior to his first online lesson with Margaret. She made my son feel comfortable and she took a very "hands on" approach in learning where my son was at in terms of skills and knowledge and getting right to work. Margaret was open to teaching songs my son likes to play in addition to those in the workbook. Overall, a great first lesson!
