I am an avid reader myself, and I have experience with students who have dyslexia, ADHD, or for whom English is a second language, as well as students who may just need a little bit of extra practice/help. I have a good sense of what aspects of reading are difficult for students, and often incorporate music, rhythm, rhyme, drama/acting, and humor, to help struggling readers.
*** Travel Equipment *** I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so.
I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children.
The students must have their own instruments, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions.
*** Specialties *** Guitar, I specialize in the following styles: jazz, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and children's songs. Piano: I prefer electronic keyboard to acoustic piano, but am happy to teach beginning students on a regular piano as well. I teach note-reading, playing by ear, and theory, with en emphasis on rock, pop, and folk music. I include arranging, chord theory, and use of the many features of an elec
tronic keyboard, in the lessons. Bass Guitar: I teach rock, pop, funk, and country music on bass. Banjo: I teach bluegrass, country, and some blues and rock music. I also play and teach old-timey frailing/clawhammer style. Ukulele: I play and teach all styles of ukulele. English and Reading: I am highly qualified to tutor/teach English (spoken, written, and reading comprehension) to both native English speakers and to those learning it as a second language. *** I am particularly good at working with children who have a.d.h.d. and other learning disabilities!
Despite what TakeLessons says about my location, I can come to you even if you don't live on the East side.
I have an associates degree in music and I have been teaching lessons for 10 years now. I also have experience as a substitute teacher. As a substitute, I have taught all grades, all subjects, and I have helped out many kinds of students each with their own way of learning.
Besides teaching, I love learning too. Anytime I have a question I immediately start seeking out the answer. Learning never stops!
*** Lesson Details *** Ever wondered how musicians write music? Why do they make the choices they make? Why do those choices work? Why does music work the way that it does? I can answer all these questions and much more.
With me as your guide, I will unlock your musical superpowers and make you capable of things you didn't know were possible. I have many different methods for teaching not only technique, but how to listen, and ho
w to think creatively so that you can unlock your full potential.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide my guitar, picks, and tuner and that's really all you will need as well.
I'll occasionally bring my laptop with me to use some music software to assist in my lessons.
I'll always have pens and paper so I can make notes or diagrams if needed. I highly recommend that my students have a spiral notebook so I can more easily cater to them.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in many musical genres including rock, ska, punk, progressive, jazz, folk, and more. Music theory is a big part of what I do as it's the universal language of music. If you learn enough theory, you can learn ANY instrument.
John is incredibly smart about theory and understanding the guitar having worked out his own individual way of learning that he is happy to share his trade secrets.

If you've ever struggled to explain to your child why a word says what it does or is spelled the way it is, please join me for a one hour seminar in Phonics for Parents.
To many emerging readers, English can seem to be a frustrating jumble of exceptions. For nearly a century, many students have been taught grossly oversimplified phonics that generate thousands of exceptions. That approach works for some students, but many struggle - especially rule-following, logical, literal students. Indeed, nearly two thirds of 4th and 8th graders read below grade level.
Thankfully, English follows a deliciously rich and robust code with remarkable consistency - and in fact, fully 98% of English words are phonetically regular. The Phonics for Parents seminar is one hour of intensive instruction designed to give literate adults the tools needed to unlock the code and become a literacy superhero. You'll come away with insights that have left many wondering "how did I not know this before

I am a full time online English Teacher, and a previous daycare owner for 10+years. I have tutored many of preschool and elementary students, with math, reading, phonics, writing etc for years and my students academic grades have improved tremendously; within the first few lessons. My teaching philosophy, is that learning requires more than just educating someone or acquiring new knowledge. In my opinion, I feel, that it is more so rather, are entire inner and outer circle of well being; which is why my approach to teaching is from an aural, visual and curiosity perspective. Clay Patrick Bedford, once said: “You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives” My teaching techniques are always challenging. However, very exciting, interesting, with a blast of fun and lots of activities; very suitable and appropriate for your child's grade level. I always assess, recognize ...

I always assess, recognize strengths, weaknesses, and structure my lessons accordingly. This helps me to monitor the students’ progress and provided insight to their expectations. Whenever my students learn something new, I stress how much they have achieved so far, rather than pointing out how much more they need to learn. During my teaching experience I have observed that a confident learner progresses more quickly than a discouraged one. My number one goal, is your child's success. Let's aim for the stars!
I want to show my students how reading can impact their mind, influence their life, and improve their academic studies.
I am excited to begin teaching lessons in music, Bible, and academics. I have the knowledge necessary to teach my students beginning and intermediate levels of music and Bible as well as offer help with academic needs.
I am a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO and have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Church Music and Bible. Whether my students want to develop an interest and love for music, Bible, and/or academics, I want to be an example, mentor, and friend and show them that learning is fun and has value. Within professional standards, I do not intend to convert students, however I would be glad to share my faith and knowledge to those who express interest in learning more.
Though I have limited experience in teaching, I have the knowledge and skills necessary to explain concepts. My future plans include becomin
g certified in multiple instruments (piano, voice, and possibly clarinet and guitar) through the Music Teacher National Association (MTNA) so that I can possess more credentials and better credibility in my future teaching endeavors.
Please consider me as your instructor so we can begin this learning journey together.
"My lessons with Laurel have been fantastic! She's very patient & knows exactly how to make everything make sense & how to break things down in order give
proper analysis in whatever she teaches from piano to singing to basic music theory. She was able to answer any questions I had in full detail. She's a very warm & welcoming person that loves to teach & can do so very well. I highly recommend her as an instructor. She is with out a doubt, a genius of her craft."
"Rosita is so sweet and patient. She made Carina's first lesson lots of fun. We are excited for future lessons."
"My son enjoys taking lessons with Cheryl. His reading pace has improved. She is very patient with him. I would recommend her to others who may be struggli

"My son has learned so much."
"She is an excellent tutor. We were very happy with the lessons."
"Kesley is absolutely amazing! She is so patient and creative. My daughter struggled so much with reading. Now she is a confident reader and is near the to
p of her class in both reading and math. Additionally, my daughter struggled with some behavior problems. Kesley was firm but kind and helped her behave not only during tutoring session, but also in school.
We are also foster parents with kids of all ages coming and going all the time. Kesley has worked with almost all of them and helped them get caught up in school. If there was something higher than 5 stars, I would give it to Kesley. You could not find a better tutor."
