Fun, engaging, personalized, and productive, lessons with me are enjoyable and highly effective. I'll help you reach your goals!
I've been teaching professionally since 2/1999.
Every June, students are welcome to showcase their talent and hard work for family and friends at my annual Piano Recital.
For young beginners, I use the Music for Little Mozart's books or Alfred Premier. For ages 6-7 through early teens, I typically use the Faber Piano Adventures lesson book, For adults, the Alfred Basic Adult Piano Course, or any lesson book of their choice.
Each student is given a Music Journal in which I document homework; what and how to practice. I have an extensive library. Students / parents are welcome to request a tutorial video.
After learning the fundamentals, my students are free to choose which songs they want to learn; multiple genres of music.
Teaching piano is my passion. I want the love of music, the feeling of accomplishment and the ineffable joy of learning to ...

About Trina
I'm a patient, friendly, enthusiastic, highly experienced teacher. A classically-trained pianist, I started playing keyboard "by ear" from around age 2, and started piano lessons at age 6. In college, I studied piano, music theory/history, and psychology in addition to fieldwork in music therapy (which prepared me to teach students with special needs). In grad school, I specialized in classical piano and theory/ composition.
Lessons with me are personalized. However. proper technique is taught to all students. Overall, I want the love of music to be the reason my students want to practice and attend lessons. I believe the rapport between student and teacher is tantamount. I strive for my students to develop a love of music that will last a lifetime.
*I hold annual Student Piano Recitals at the end of the school year.*

Trina approached my daughter very gracefully. My daughter has zero experience and she is very young. She still struggle with counting and some of fine motory skills, e.g. right fingers on the right keys. Trina customized the experience and kept her on the task, even my daughter was a bit stressed-out by the new experience. There is a lot of work ahead of us and with Trina's experience and patience, we hope to make slow, but solid progress.

This is my first time playing the piano and I was a little timid about taking lessons. Janet is very easy-going and extremely cognizant of my abilities which has helped me to feel more relaxed and I have been able to learn a great deal from her. As a former master's student at The Eastman School of Music and a lifelong musician, I've yet to encounter a voice teacher as perceptive, honest, patient, and encouraging as Mr. Tompkins. One of the best pedagogues and technicians I've encountered, his repertoire knowlege and ability to discern what is hindering a singer's progress is quite remarkable. Within an hour of working with him, he was able to fine tune and efficiently improve what was impeding my progress. That 60 minute session was more productive than in an entire semester at conservatory. A world class singer, Mr. Tompkins is as accomplished a voice teacher as he is a performer. Highly recommended.

I've been playing piano ever since I was in elementary school, and it's proven a valuable asset as I've continued my career as a musician. No musician can afford not to know piano, let alone how to read and play sheet music, and anyone who wants to pursue music, or just the arts in general always benefits from it.

Hello, my name is T.J. and here's why I can help you achieve your goal of learning piano: it's all about method! Learning how to play piano is not nearly as important as learning how to learn to play piano. What I'm saying is almost all of the piano playing that you will do to get better will be done without a teacher, however, spending time to learn the tools and techniques necessary to make you a productive, disciplined learner capable of critical thought will carry you much farther!

About Thomas
Hello, my name is T.J. and I'm currently finishing my bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. I am a pianist and vocalist with a passion for music theory and vocal pedagogy. I've performed in a wide array of venues and styles and have experience as a music director and collaborative musician. I'm soon going to be pursuing my master's degree in choral conducting, but until then I have a desire to share the knowledge I have obtained in my years as a performer, musician, and director. I'm new to takelessons, though I'm not new to giving them, so say hi and ask some questions!
