I am an emotive cellist with two decades experience. I have toured internationally performing my original works including London, Paris, and Berlin. As a member of the Pierce Quartet I regularly arrange and perform music for weddings and other special occasions. I love sharing classical music with all levels of students. Lessons with me are calm, meditative experiences where we use peaceful techniques to enter into the heart of music.

About Lenna

Hello musicians! My name is Lenna and I am pleased to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2011 and have loved helping my students improve their tone, learn better sight reading skills, and become more relaxed in performance. Awesome coaching on what I was doing wrong. Lenna showing me how to hold my hand correctly makes it so much easier to find my notes.

Lenna was very clear and her improvisation at the end of the lesson was fun!

I grew up thinking my hands were too small to play piano, but QUICKLY LEARNED OTHERWISE when learning efrom Lenna. She takes time to understand your goals and your experience (with the instrument you're learning and with music in general!) and creates a learning strategy that feels custom to help you acheive those goals. She's got undoubtable compassion for her students and passion for the craft; she gives recommendations on ways to work through challenges that she identified to be common (like piano hand independence!). She cares about her students, as students, and as people. Would definitely recommend her lessons.

From the foundations of technique to musical fluency and interpretation, I guide my students through the process of building freedom and confidence as well-rounded musicians. Mastering the instrument physically is as important as having a personal, emotional connection to the music we play, and understanding the workings of musical communication allows us to create those magical moments for ourselves and our listeners. Through my studies with renowned pedagogues such as Areta Zhulla and Joel Krosnick of the Juilliard Quartet, chamber music guru Merry Peckham, and world-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman, I've developed a unique method for acquiring both effortless technique and the tools to make sense of any piece of music. I believe that every student can make incredible leaps in their musical ability as they discover their own powers of examination, exploration, and determination.

I have extensive experience with classical as well as contemporary music theory, history, and ...

Daniel is the best! His love for music is infectious and I feel so lucky to have found him. He is patient and supportive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable and not to mention a brilliant cellist, which goes without saying. 10/10 recommend him for anything.

Daniel has been teaching my 12 year old daughter cello for the last 3 years. He is a very attentive and patient teacher, with an excellent approach to his students. My daughter loves to go to his lessons, and has even enjoyed the Zoom lessons with Daniel over the last year. He has a lot of musical knowledge and has a delightful personality. I highly recommend him.

Daniel is an amazing teacher! I have been taking cello lessons from him for the last 5 years. I'm an older student (41 y.o), and started out with little musical experience and only a dream to play the cello. Daniel is so patient and supportive, with the most pleasant demeanor you can imagine. His musical knowledge runs deep, and his eclectic approach to playing and teaching the cello touches on a variety of musical genres, including classical, jazz, folk, and other styles. With his natural talent for teaching, Daniel is very sensitive to my stumbling blocks and difficulties in the lessons, and is so helpful with his clear instructions in how to break down and solve the problems. Most of all, his lessons and wisdom are very inspiring, and I am always looking forward to our next meeting. I wholeheartedly recommend Daniel as a music teacher.

I have over 30 years of experience teaching cello. Every student has different needs; I work with you at whatever point you are at; beginners through advanced students welcome. I have a doctorate in cello. I've played cello all my life; in recent years I have learned (and can teach) 5-string cello, as well.

I recommend lessons 30 minutes in duration for beginners, particularly children. (Adult beginners can choose 30 or 45 minutes.) Students who can play longer pieces definitely need a little longer lesson so we get through everything.

I use Suzuki books for their inexpensive repertoire but I do not teach using the Suzuki method nor do I teach rote playing. I supplement these books with technique materials from Rick Mooney (Position Pieces, Thumb Position) and studies by cellist-composers of the past. If you have an interest in another area of playing, let's talk and find pieces that interest you.

"I had picked up the cello last August with absolutely 0 experience with strings. I had one other teacher when I first began and unfortunately needed to take a break due to financials.

Fast forward to this year and I had quite accidentally found Rhody's information but I am so glad that I did!

He is a fun, patient and knowledgeable teacher. He explains things in a very simplistic way and makes sure you're both on the same page. He understands that life gets in the way of practice sometimes but kindly pushes you to keep trying and keep practicing (that IS the only way we'll get better, y'all).

Since I've started practicing and learning through Rhody, I feel like I actually understand how the music is ought to be played...and that's a sure step in the direction of truly understanding such a beautiful instrument.

I could go on but I'll leave it with this: please go through Rhody! You won't find a better teacher!"

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …

Popular Cello Songs for Adult Beginners

The cello is an absolutely beautiful instrument that calls countless numbers of people to play it. Adult students are sometimes the most challenging to find pieces for as they don’t want to play the “kiddie” songs that many younger students are excited about. These pieces for younger students are short, based on simple folk songs that children know, and generally do not feel challenging enough for many adult students. So what popular cello pieces are out there that adult students can u …

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
