The saxophone can be one of the funnest instruments to play, no questions asked! In order to reach that point it's important to have certain things in order such as: sound production, breath support, musicality, and technique. In lessons use a variety of exercises and method/etude books, playing duets together, as well as listening and ear training to give my students a well rounded approach to the saxophone and music helping them to become the best musician they can be.

About Bill
Bill is multi-instrumentalist, jazz musician, composer, arranger and educator. He developed a strong connection to music early in life through some family tradition, encouraging parents and many inspiring and influential teachers. He has gone on to perform alongside a number of noteworthy artists and ensembles and has toured extensively overseas and throughout North America.

His love for music came to life though performances with several ensembles in public school, regional big bands and his own jazz saxophone quartet. He is a graduate of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music's Jazz Studies program and has recently become a graduate of New Jersey City University's M.M. Multiple Woodwind Performance program.

Following two years performing abroad on cruise ships and the national tour of Young Frankenstein: The Musical, he was dr
awn back to New York City. Performing regularly on piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and all saxophones, he is proving to be valued asset in the NYC music scene.

Bill performs regularly with his group, Bill Todd and the Sixth Generation, while also working as a Broadway pit musician, a sideman and a private music teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every student is unique, therefore, lessons are designed to fit the student individually. My teaching style is molded to satisfy each students wants and needs. I also like to focus on developing proper playing habits. I see it as my job to help my students understand and develop the proper techniques to eliminate bad habits in order for them to be the best they can be on their instrument. Lessons are about having fun making music, learning, and improving.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Chairs, music stands and keyboard for harmonic discussions.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to bring their own music notebook and their own instrument. They may also need to purchase their own lesson books when the time comes.

*** Specialties ***
I can help my students learn how to play in a variety of styles ranging from classical (solos, chamber music, etudes, etc.) to jazz (improvisation, harmony, etc.). Whether they're working on a song to play at school, a NYSSMA or All County solo, or just learning for fun, I will help them play to the best of their ability.

Bill is great, and I would recommend him for players of all ages. I played flute in middle school and high school and wanted to get back into playing after having not touched my instrument for 15+ years. I found Bill on Take Lessons and was excited to begin lessons after reading his many glowing reviews. Although I was nervous about essentially having to start from scratch all over again with the flute, Bill has been kind, patient and lots of fun to work with. He is an extremely talented musician, and is very good at figuring out what I'm doing wrong with respect to air flow, embouchure, etc., and recommending how to correct it. Although I have a lot of work ahead of me I'm so enjoying playing again, and this time with much better sound, thanks to Bill!

About Stephen
I am a classically trained saxophonist, bass vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. I have experience arranging music of all styles for bands, orchestra, percussion ensembles, and a cappella groups. I have taught public school band, chorus, orchestra, piano, and music technology classes and was an elementary school music teacher in Orlando, FL before moving to New York in 2012.

My private saxophone students have gone on to study at the college level, have been members of the Florida All-State band, a
nd earned Superior ratings at state music festivals. I have also taught private flute, clarinet, and bassoon lessons.

In addition to music performance classes, I have experiencing teaching music theory and arranging. If you would like to learn about the magic behind music, I'm your guy!

Students will learn how to properly learn and play the saxophone from the absolute basics to a high, intermediate level and beyond in various styles.
Beginners: The basics of embouchure, technical skills, proper breathing techniques, ability to read music.
Intermediate: Playing intermediate level solo pieces, refining technique, extending range, learning how to play music by ear and performing in various styles, from classical to jazz.

About Jorge
I have over 10 years of experience on the Clarinet and other reed instruments. I am a senior undergraduate BA Music Education major at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and have studied classical clarinet as well as saxophone under various professors at the college.

I also have experience in teaching NYSSMA solos, intermediate/advanced techniques on the saxophone and clarinet, and have run and directed my own orchestra and jazz band during my time in college.

I have a reputation for achieving whatever goals I set my sights on musically, from performing to composing and conducting.

I am also in touch with the current music education situation in New York City, spending many hours every semester doing fieldwork observations in various music programs across the city as well as being an assistant to various honors
festivals for middle school and high school students, as well as performing in them while still in the public school system.

I personally believe practicing should be fun, and have devised multiple strategies for success to kick-start one's drive for peak performance in music!

Do you want to play what is known as the coolest woodwind out there? Move aside, oboe!

During a Corinne saxophone lesson, you will learn how to create beautiful sounds first and foremost. If at first you sound like a goose, fear not! A little bit of time with me will go a long way.

Once you are producing some quality saxophone sounds, we will move on to learning notes, reading music, and accomplishing your goals!

We will keep the lesson active with musicality and breath training, so don't expect to sit down the entire time...unless you want to...and then I will be sad.

If you already know how to play the saxophone, I will continue your education in whatever direction you would like to go.

I look forward to working with you!

About Corinne
I'm a clarinet playing, elementary music teaching, high school clarinet directing, performing, dancing teacher with a wild imagination.

I have taught students from 5-18 since I was in high school myself, and I truly love it. I love watching individuals succeed, and I love feeling like I play a part in the process.

When teaching lessons, you may not find me sitting down. Sometimes we'll stand up and move, conduct, create, and choreograph to better understand the music we're working on. Sometimes we'll lie on the floor to work on breathing exercises. Sometimes we'll draw imaginary paintings on the wall to find deeper meaning in what we're learning. It's not just about the notes and rhythms. They are extremely important, but that is not where music ends.

My goal is to make you excited to see me and play your instrument. It is exci
tement and drive that will help you succeed.

When I'm not teaching, you can find me playing my own instruments by myself or with my band. You can even find me breaking out my tap shoes to dance and play my instruments at the same time.

I am excited to work with you!
