Tutoring in beginner to intermediate German. Focus on conversation.

About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

What a beautiful language German is! No wonder there's so many famous German poets, playwrites and composers! And actually German is also very much used in todays international business world! Whether you want to get better grades in school or you just want to be able to have a simple conversation on vacation or apply with a German company, as a native speaker I can help you reach your goals!

About Chrissy
Originally born in Germany, Chrissy developed a passion for music, language and teaching early on. Right out of High School she helped her mother, who was an educator at that time, write and stage-manage a children's Musical which found great response from the audience. During her Music studies in the Netherlands she was offered an internship at the local Music School which she gratefully accepted and where she enjoyed her first voice coaching experience. There she was also nominated as one of the most promising young singer/songwriters at the LUX Festival in Nijmegen. Over the years she was blessed with more and more private students in voice as well as piano. During her stay in New York she received the opportunity to work with a Broadway show ensemble ("Dreamgirls") as a Music Director on their different harmonic parts. She's proudly b
een a member of the Music of Oz Studio staff in Crown Point, Indiana since Jan. 2011 and is looking forward to teaching out of her home now as well. Chrissy is crazy about all her students and wants them to succeed! She's very much looking forward to working with you and having buckets of fun! :-)

*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

My emphasis is on a dialogue-driven and comparative introduction for the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Creative Support, Berlitz Languages, and Tutor Doctor.

I grew up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed German credits at the college level.

I have experience teaching German literature, elementary German, and German grammar. I lived in Germany for over 18 years. Possibly the only dedicated PhD for E-Learning on the TakeLessons server, I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in ...

My style and attitude toward teaching is a balance between subject delivery and reflective, supportive interaction. This is done through customized online lessons coordinating the experience with optimal resources and tools. Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I am a native German speaker and have been teaching German since September 2011.
My students are pre-k -12 th Graders and occasionally adults, mostly Business German. SAT prep for German and German with listening.

About Kerstin
I graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in June 2007 with a Master in Education (Arts in Education) degree. During my studies I worked in the framework of the Artful Adventures Program (Museum of Fine Arts in Boston), which provides object - based learning and hands on artistic experiences for elementary and middle school kids. My own research was about “Creative Insight in Practice" and "Acquiring English as a Second Language and Developing Self-Esteem through the Idiom of Art". I have more than a two decades-long experience in painting, drawing, printmaking and installation work. The images I use in my work are mostly based on self-made or collected photos or drawings from nature combined with literature or self-made phrases. I use digital tools in order to layer text, photos and drawings and combine them to a new work.
Photo and text based collages will often merge into drawings or watercolors and these are the starting point for my large scale oil paintings.

Ivonne is an excellent instructor. She is organized, patient, and thorough. She took care to assess my goals and how we could achieve them. She is committed to using our time to advance my skills as quickly as possible, by speaking almost entirely in German--when I don't understand, she repeats in German slowly before switching to English, an approach I really appreciate.

Diana was one of the best tutors I have ever had the pleasure of learning with. She is extremely kind and thoughtful, bringing something special to every encounter. She is also one of the most timely people I have ever met, never showing up less than ten minutes early. She encouraged me every step of the way and never made me feel as though I was learning at too slow of a pace. Her sense of humor is also amazing, making tutoring feel more like hanging with an old friend. Give her a chance to be your tutor and I can guarantee you will not regret it.

I teach a dialect of German that some call Pennsylvania Dutch which is spoken by the Amish and Mennonites in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and Holmes County, Ohio. My parents were born Amish but have since left and I was raised learning this dialect as well as English.

For the sake of clarity, there is a difference between Pennsylvania Dutch and what I call Holmes County German. The difference is mostly in the accent and some words. I am from Holmes County, Ohio and would be teaching you basic vocabulary, phrases and helping perfect your pronunciation of the dialect.

I don't have any experience other than teaching the some useful phrases and vocabulary to some friends who wanted to learn. But I love teaching and especially enjoy teaching the language of my heritage!

About Tamra
I come from a community that values hard work and family. I hope to teach not only the language of my heritage but also the rich culture of it as well! Although I don't live and dress exactly like some of my Amish relatives, the culture is still part of me in many ways.
The lessons will be mainly focused on vocabulary and phrases for every day interactions and fun culture facts!
(And if I don't know the answer I could probably ask my grandma and she would know) :)

The Amish people in Holmes County, Ohio are very impressed when an "Englisher" comes to their community and isn't shy about practicing what they're learning. It also can create an instant respect or understanding of trust when you communicate in their heart language. Most can speak English very well, but at home and among themselves they still keep the language alive.
So if you
are looking to learn the basics before visiting our area and you want to impress and surprise the locals I would love to equip you for that!

All ages welcome!

I am fascinated by our ability to communicate in many differently languages. After teaching myself French at 16 years old, I sought out to learn the romance languages. By the time I graduated highschool I was fluent in both French and Italian, but the moment I heard the German language, I fell in love.

I approach German lessons in an exciting way that includes learning music, writing letters, watching your favorite movies, and more. Let’s get started!

About Amber
I am a writer, lover of all musical genres, and linguistics specialist.

I teach piano students of all different ages, beginner and intermediate levels. I studied piano for 12 years, but have played various musical instruments for 20 years: (recorder, clarinet, trumpet and violin). I teach students to read music and cater to each student’s individual interests (if you want to learn to play your favorite songs from movies, theater, and more? You can do it!)

I’ve studied languages for over 15 years and I’m currently developing my own language. :)
