I offer lessons to students that have a desire to improve their playing and knowledge of music.
A brief summarization of my process:
-Establish concepts for healthy practice routine with the student. The type of practice is more important than the raw amount of practice.
-Set a 3-4 month goal for study outlining key issues. -Identify strengths and areas of improvement in the student as they appear in the weeks. -At the end of the 3 months, all this work and practice comes together in either a recital or a special project (audition, recording, etc.).
-Retrospective review and planning for next set of months.
Within the above framework, I try to encourage:
-Appreciation of music and learning as a whole -Organization! And techniques to improve it. -Analytical skills (micro and macro)
-Initiative -- taking a proactive attitude towards one’s learning -Communication
Pedro is an excellent teacher. He's able to blend the technical aspects of playing with the artistry of the instrument. I've already learned a great deal from him in only five lessons.

Versatile Instructor for All Ages
I'm an adult student, but you can feel a comfort and relaxed atmosphere in the immediate presence of Pedro. This is such an important factor in learning an instrument. This feeling would serve to greatly help and child right on through adult learning. Good Job!
My primary expertise is in teaching beginners to low intermediate students but I gladly accept students of any level.
Classically trained, energetic, experienced and creative music teacher with a proven ability to get the very best out of pupils; experienced in identifying the appropriate resources necessary for a subject matter and ensuring that they are used efficiently and effectively. Most of my students read and play simple music after 2-3 classes of active instruction.
I also specialize in special needs students.
All my musical knowledge and expertise was attained in Eastern Europe with an extensive music pedagogy training. I play and teach piano, upright bass, bass guitar and a range of other instruments. Over the years I taught basic piano, the beginner violin, viola, cello and a variety of school instruments such as recorder and xylophone. I also teach advanced music theory, harmony and basics of composition and orchestral arranging req
uired for music colleges. I especially find it rewarding working with beginners and the opportunity to show them the amazing world of listening, playing and making music.
The teaching begins with identifying student's musical needs, goals and tastes. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and classic repertoire. For those wishing to pursue more of a classical approach to music, there are proven methods to accomplish that goal established by European master teachers and pedagogues. Also, I can teach the know-how of Jazz and Blues though gradual lessons that cover basic theory, scales and chords up to melody and harmony development.

With a proper approach, everyone can learn to play music. Whether you want to pursue a music career, or just play for fun and enjoyment I can help you attain your goals. From basic piano and stringed instruments, to advanced theory, harmony, composition and improvisation to jazz, pop and rock.

Peter has exceeded my expectations, I look forward for my lesson every week. I honestly can say He is the best teacher I’ve ever had. I am a 44 yo violin beginner student who has had 5 teachers in the last 6 years, I didn’t learn much with them, this been said, with Peter in just 3 months I feel I have learned more than my other teachers. Peter is so, so patient and extremely professional. I am very pleased to have found such a wonderful teacher.

Peter is always on time, patient with beginners, and gives valuable guidance.

Peter has been teaching bass to our son for several years and our son has become quite proficient. It's a bonus that Peter is unfailingly upbeat, professional, and a pleasure to have around. He truly loves music and conveys his appreciation to his students - so much so that now my husband is taking cello lessons from Peter, too.
Catherine is a performer, teacher, and arranger. She has performed in world class venues such as Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Kosciuszko Foundation, as well as the Museum of Natural History, and she has performed with over thirty different chamber ensembles, including the American String Quartet and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Her career developments are primarily in music, but she also pursues interest in creative writing, journal writing and human rights. She has given many community performances and raised charity funds for organizations such as World Vision, A. G. Rhodes Health & Rehab nursing home, Columbia Hospital, Corpus Christi Church, and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
Catherine initially gained her musical inspiration through her family and has been performing since her youth. Her family provided
her countless opportunities to perform, to participate in event planning, and to experiment with new music and arranging. She grew up participating in her mother's studio recitals at home and enjoys an annual family tradition of organizing and performing Christmas programs at church. One of Catherine's projects during her studies at the Manhattan School of Music was the Symposium Concert Series, which has led her to perform in apartment homes around the city and build a community of young artists. She has made countless arrangements for solo viola and viola with various ensembles which she often performs.
Catherine resides in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, Lawrence. She plays on a Raymond J. Melanson viola made in 1987.
*** Lesson Details *** I'm able to travel to the student's home or teach at my home. Parents are welcome to sit in the lesson.
I had a great experience because Catherine is an amazing instructor.
She taught lessons with a high degree of professionalism and care. As a novice, I was able to learn a lot because Catherine was patient and attentive to my learning style.

My two oldest children (one more advanced in piano than the other) began taking lessons with Catherine just this year. They have both shown significant improvement and love her as an instructor. They also look forward to practicing in between lessons. We could not be happier.

Great artist and a teacher. My 6 year old enjoys her lessons and I love her down to earth vibe.

Emily is great. She’s very knowledgeable and my daughter is learning so much!

Even though this was Aaron's first private violin lesson, he has already shown great improvements. Ms. Vold is very knowledgeable and worked great with Aaron. Couldn't have asked for a better instructor!
I've been teaching viola for 7 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to get familiar with the viola and learn basic skills on the instrument and as time goes on you'll be able to play songs and read music. I specialize in classical and modern pop, typically use Hal Leonard and Suzuki books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: piano for accompaniment, music stand. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
Hi, there! My name is Krisztina and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2010. I love helping my students to learn how to play the violin, to be able to play their favorite tunes or helping them preparing for auditions for schools and ensembles. I went to the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary and earned my Masters Degree in Music in 2010. I'm a friendly and patient teacher and my teaching style engages student in the learning process also fun, and creative. I look forward helping you to reach your goals!
Ms.Krisztina is a joy to work with. My girls started with her at 5 & 6 and she worked so well with them. She has kept their interest since and has introduced new concepts in a way that isn’t overwhelming, but enjoyable and fun. She has a lot of patience with them and has a skill for drawing their attention to the violin & music.
January 25, 2019
Violin or viola, Krisztina was a very caring and nicest teacher I have ever had. Unlike myself she was always on time. Her friendliness made every lesson more fun while she really cared about her students and always been honest with her comments.
January 10, 2019
I would highly recommend Krisztina. She truly likes teaching violin. She goes beyond the call of duty. For example, she sends emails with her or other musician videos for practice at home, works over the allotted time if needed and if she is able to, sends texts and responds promptly.
My daughter was beginning to say she was getting less interested in violin and before I could say anything, Krisztina made my daughter excited about it again with new things to learn.
There is nothing negative to say. She is an excellent teacher.
A bit of everything! During a lesson with me, students and I will work on classical pieces as well as music choices the student is interested in learning. Students of all ages are welcome to learn!
Hello all! My name is Kim. Just a few traits about me is that I am positive, patient, and hard working. I am here to help you progress in learning your instrument as well as your love for all kinds of music.
Congratulations on taking the next step to mastering your instrument and truly becoming an artist. Playing music has benefits for every aspect of life: creativity, technique, focus, and fun are encouraged as we learn how to become better musicians.
I am currently accepting students in my UWS Studio, offering private lessons for all ages and abilities in viola and violin.
"Mattie is the best viola teacher in the world" says my six year old son. I also am a student and really appreciate taking lessons with Mattie. She is thorough and focussed and pays close attention to each student. I like her whole body approach to teaching proper form and am unlearning and learning a lot. - Rachel, adult viola student
I am a passionate arts advocate and teacher, and am here to help you bring your musical goals to life! I am a conservatory trained violist, with over a decade of teaching experience. My true love is classical chamber music, but I also have toured internationally with indie rock bands. I specialize in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, a method for teaching rhythmic movement as well as physical and instrumental improvisation.
My expectation of the student is that they are enthusiastic about their lessons and
willing to put in the demanding work that is necessary to fine tune their artistry. Together we will decide on pieces and goals according to your technical abilities and musical interests. For younger students, parents will have a role in the success of their child’s music education. Performing opportunities will be available since it is my philosophy that music is a gift that should be shared.
"Pepina was direct and very clearly communicated what she wanted me to do. She told me when I was doing things right and helped me when I was doing things
"My 13 year old granddaughter just finished her 1st year of viola at school in June 2014 and she wanted to take summer lessons to stay sharp. There were a
lot of teachers available within a 10-15 minute drive, but after trying other teachers, we chose Mark (a 30 minute drive ) because, as others have commented, he is extremely patient and teaches by correcting, not criticizing. He simply has a gift for teaching. I have never regretted the extra drive. Once you've had a lesson with him, you won't want to go to anyone else."
"My daughter's confidence and skills as a violist have grown tremendously while under Martina's tutelage. I'm so pleased with the online lessons which give
us the quality of an exceptional instructor in the comfort of our own home and on our schedule. Finding Martina has been a blessing to my daughter and her music."
"Charles is very professional, kind and friendly. My 9 year old is trying to learn Bohemian Rhapsody on his viola for a talent show and Charles has been v
ery helpful, guiding him through the music with positive reinforcement. We tried a couple other instructors but it wasn't the right fit. Super pleased we found Charles. Look forward to many more lessons to come."
"Catherine did a lovely job with my 9 year old daughter!"
"Megan is so pleasant and fun! She has strong focus on technique, and explains these practices in a way I can understand. Since I am a beginner, and adult
learner, it's important that my music teacher is patient and cheers me along throughout the process - Megan definitely has that gift. I also appreciate that she writes down technique tips and exercises for me to practice at home (so I remember what she taught me in class.) I'm looking forward to continuing to learn from Megan, and play music beautifully on my Viola one day."
"Great instruction, she had me working with the bow on the very first lesson. Very responsive to students needs, A+ will continue studying viola with phoeb
"At the first lesson, Grace took the time to understand my musical goals then made a solid assessment of my current level of playing. She was able to ide
ntify small changes in my technique/form and crafted modifications in my warmup to support the change in technique."
