Stephen has been giving our teenager daughter weekly lessons in "J-pop" dancing. Even though his background does not include this particular style, he has done a great job of staying ahead of our daughter, and-even more importantly-encouraging and motivating her to keep at it. (Since dancing is one of the few exercises she will do willingly, this is key!) She looks forward to the weekly lesson and so do we.

Private Dance Teacher

How to move around like a hungry for space dancer. My teachers used to tell me to Eat Up Space. We will learn how to make our own dances. Vocabulary and Improv, Dynamic, Structure and Form. Finding what it means to write a story or poem with your body's movement, the space it is inhabiting and of course, idea.

About Gina

I am in New York City and accepting new students as well as reconnecting with anyone who wants to return.
I have two graduate degrees: one in Music and the other in Dance and Theater studies.
My undergraduate degree is from The Juilliard School, in Dance.

I've taught children and grown ups for many years. I have a strong performing career and love the way teaching keeps me in a giving and learning place.

*** Lesson Details ***
With beginning students I am very laid back and patient and believe strongly that in the play of games and experiments technique will develop and manifest. As the student becomes more advanced I become more demanding as do the materials.

As an Acting teacher I have the capacity to take students along all the way to professional and beyond. I'm a member of the Actors Studio, the performing unions and ha

ve studied since childhood at ACT and then all over the world including The National in London.

For Dance, I have a wide knowledge and can teach several forms as well as history and materials. I also teach Ballet and many forms of Modern Dance. I adore teaching dance composition. To help a dance student make their own dances is very fulfilling. I also teach choreography or composition.
One of the aspects of dance composition that has recently captivated me is the composing of sound and music for the dance that is also being made. Using software, we can explore electroacoustic as well as language and text collage as sound score for your dance. It is super fun!!!

For the Visual Arts I teach Abstract Painting as well as Installation and Performance Art.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have supplies and space. Visual Art students need to contribute to materials by finding or purchasing whatever they like and adding to the mix. My students are welcome to use what I have here and I am always adding materials. Many people throw away materials that are perfectly good for art making so keep your eyes open and you'll find all kinds of good things. Visual Art students need to book a 2 hour minimum and I will lower the price if you just let me know you need it.

My fees: I start at a higher fee and after you've been a regular student we can lower the fee for you if you need.

*** Travel Equipment ***
just a space to work in - we can create a work space out of any space.

*** Specialties ***
In dance I teach classical ballet principles for beginners or those who are returning and want to work carefully and privately. I teach from the tradition of Alfredo Corvino's principles of relationship to organic forms and structures for sound development. I studied with Mr Corvino for years and continue to study with Ernesta Corvino.
For acting I teach a combination of classical acting technique with American sense memory and relaxation skills. I am well versed in the teachings of Lee Strasberg and then spent time in London to 'fill in the cracks' of my training with analytical skills as well as the various european influences that the Royal National embrace.
I teach creative discovery in combination with classical devices so the student can discover their own artistry while learning actual classical devices for accomplishing specific goals.

My specialty is teaching tap as a musical instrument. For me, the movement serves the sound rather than a visual effect. No matter if you're a beginning, intermediate or advanced student, you will discover the potential of the human body to help internalize musical concepts such as phrasing, form, improvisation, and self-expression, as well as gain organic access to complex musical structures. Whether your focus is on building tap dance skills, seeking to connect body and mind in a profound and musical way, or are a musician who wants to become more connected and physically involved with the groove within - you are in the right place with me. The tap steps are merely tools to access your unique voice. My tap lessons combine technique, improvisation, and combinations with mindfulness, breathing, and body awareness exercises. Find the groove that is within you!

About Sandra

I am a tap dance musician, writer, and visual artist.
My performance credits include Thomas Marek's show NOLA, the sound art/tap performance Homöostep, the Tap Ahead Festival, and Daniel Luka's T.A.P. My current main project is Neosole, which explores tap as a music instrument, as a full member of the rhythm section, not just soloing as a gimmick on top of the music, but being fully integrated, comping and providing a foundation for the musical context.
I have been invited to teach at renowned facilities such as tanzhaus nrw, tap club, and Rebeltanz, and to be a tap dancer in residence at Thomas Marek's Studio Footprints.
My artistic works have been featured in publications such as Average Art, The Tap Love Tour Podcast, What Moves You, and Not Random Art.
I first started tap dancing at the age of 10 under the direction of my Mom.

From then on, I was influenced by many different teachers and mentors, such as Barbara Duffy, Sebastian Weber, Pia Neises, Derick Grant, Sarah Petronio, and Heather Cornell, to only name a few. I graduated from the tap dance apprenticeship S.O.N.T.I. with magna cum laude.
I consider myself a musician, and the tap shoes are my instrument. My style is deeply rooted in the aesthetic of jazz music and heavily shaped by playing in numerous jam sessions around Europe and New York City, however, my art transcends the boundaries of genres. It is merely a tool to create the most genuine and sophisticated expression possible. A catalyst to explore art as an extension of the human experience.
I call myself a tap dance musician because neither dance nor music could exist without the other. However, I don't move to look a certain way, I move to sound a certain way.

Keomi is amazing. She is an excellent teacher: She can adapt to even the most beginner of students, gives great instructions/cues and is bright, fun, and positive all while remaining grounded with an eye for detail.

Keomi has a lot of positive energy and is sensitive to the the skill levels of her students so she tailors her classes to give just enough challenge while building on students’ strengths and experiences.
Keomi gives a great cardio workout where you really sweat yet the class is so fun that you don’t notice how hard you are working!
You WILL learn many classic hip hop moves which Keo strings together to make a sexy/cool but accessible choreography. You come out of class feeling blissed - both for the vigorous workout and for accomplishing the dance moves! This is a great class for all levels.

Private Dance Teacher

I have been teaching hip hop classes for over 10 years. In my class you will learn the foundations of dance and how to understand musicality in order to translate it into movement. My main objective is to have a fun time with you while we work on your dance moves and your confidence. The class can be customized depending on your goal: learning routines, fitness or dancing in heels. All levels and ages are welcome!

About Nina

I am a professional dancer from Switzerland. I started dancing at the age of 12 and started teaching my first hip hop classes at the age of 18. I have opened showes for R’n’B singers Genuwine, Mario Winans and Rapper Erick Sermon. I have performed in many showes for other choreographers and appeared in different music videos.
Teaching private dance classes is the best way to respond to every student’s individual needs and immediately see the results and improvements.
I love dance because it gives me a way to express my emotions and it gives me confidence to be in control of my body in a way that only dance can make me feel. Dance also is a way of making music visual which is a wonderful form of art. And of course...it is so much fun!

"Da-Rell did a great job teaching me how to dance in advance of a family wedding. I already had an instructor for ballroom dances, but needed someone to l
oosen me up for the club (rock, pop, hip-hop) dancing which represented a large part of the repertoire of the band's program at the wedding. After 5 hours of lessons I felt confident both using the moves that DaRell had taught me as well as even inventing some of my own along the way. DaRell did a great job on a difficult assignment, outside of the normal repertoire of most dance lessons."

"I had a private lesson with Tom, recently, and it made me think about how much effort it takes to dance. Why does it feel like we are rushing into each st
ep and through each motion? Tom teaches a minimum effort philosophy by reinforcing key dance concepts to make the dance feel so good. He also teaches you to treat your partner like a loved one by taking care of them. How you hold your partner is just as important as the moves you. I'll be keeping these things in mind as I dance. Thanks Tom!"
