Private Broadway Singing Teacher

Hello! I am an actor, singer, and teacher in NYC. I was an adjunct faculty at NYU Steinhardt Vocal Performance program 2017-2019. At NYU, I taught private voice lessons to NYU students for 2 years, from beginner to advanced singers. My goal is to find your "authentic" voice so that you can sing in a healthy and sustainable way across the genres. (classical, music theater, pop/rock, R&B/soul, country, etc.) I have developed a style of teaching that is efficient and flexible. I will cater my lessons to your needs!

I also studied voice science (vocology) through the NYU Voice Center under the SLPs and Laryngologists, so I understand how the vocal system works. I will provide explanations that make sense using anatomy and physiology!

My teaching style is “taller-made” for each student and his/her development. Since singing is a combination of technique and expression, and is very physical and emotional, I aim to help each of my students gain that balance of emotionality with technique!

Private Broadway Singing Teacher

Singing is one of the most joyful activities you can do! Anyone can learn to sing.
I love teaching others to sing and perform, and I've been doing so for over 20 years - through private lessons, music theater workshops, music schools and choruses. I work with students where they are at and help them to build a solid technique that works for them.

(The percentage of people who are actually tone deaf is very, very small.)

About Catherine

Catherine has been teaching private lessons since 1995 and is currently available to teach lessons at your home, at her studio, and online. Catherine has helped students to develop their voices, audition successfully, and perform with confidence on stage and screen. Catherine received her educ

I was looking for a vibrant, fun piano teacher for my kids as they were not motivated by strict teachers who also taught them boring songs they could not relate to. What a gift of a teacher we found in Catherine. Not only is she warm, kind, caring with an easy rapport for kids and adults alike but she is also an excellent piano and voice instructor. This talented lady is a professional singer too who is well versed in Broadway show tunes and opera too. She also instill her students with a sense of musical rhythm and is holistic in her approach to kids who might need a little physical warm up before class in order to attend better. Catherine’s voice is magnificent and we were fortunate enough to attend a show where she played the lead for The Taming of the Shrew.
She is a professional voice and classical opera teacher too and this complements her piano instruction .. A perk is she can travel to your home or does lesions in her own home . In addition
is a passionate, excellent voice teacher for anyone who is looking to hone their vocal skills and talents. I wholeheartedly recommend Catherine - her lessons are more than just teaching - she is a true mentor and educator in every sense of the word.

Extremely caring and knowledgeable. My grandchildren loved her while we were taking lessons. We only stopped because they live too far away. I highly recommend Catherine!!

While I now primarily sing classical repertoire, my roots are in Musical Theatre. My passion for singing grew from a love of Broadway and I have many years of experience performing in and assisting with musicals. My goal is for all of my singers to have a foundation of healthy vocal technique, which I build from my knowledge of classical voice. This allows for a deeper understanding of how the voice functions and leads to an overall stronger sound.

With training and teaching experience in acting, dance, and Alexander Technique, I can provide helpful tools not only for vocal technique, but also for character development, stage presence, and interpretation. When singing Broadway repertoire, it is especially important for all of these elements to come together as one in performance. I would love to help you discover your voice and work on this repertoire together!

About Isabel

My passion is singing and I am pursuing a Master’s degree in classical vocal performance at the Mannes School of Music. My voice teachers have greatly impacted my life and my goal is to inspire my students in a similar way. Students of all ages and levels are welcome. Styles that I teach include ar

I would recommend Isabel to absolutely anyone looking to take voice lessons! I appreciate her knowledge of technique and vocal pedagogy, and am thankful for her encouragement and strategies for success. I enjoy my lessons and learn so much from Isabel each week, that it feels like my lessons are in person!

Isabel is amazing!! She is so nice and encouraging while still teaching you new things! I would recommend her if you are starting out or even if you have been taking voice lessons for years. She is great for people doing Musical style singing! If you have the chance to work with her, take it!
Isabelle
Isabel is always so patient. I couldn't recommend her enough!! I have learned so much in just 5 lessons. Her voice is insanely impressive but she really make singing accessible. I can feel real improvements! She helped me change something I was longing for and turned it into something I have. She is also just straight up easy to talk to.

We went with online piano lessons at the moment due to COVID, but I was nervous about the format as the lessons are for my five-year-old daughter, so I was concerned the additional technology would be an impediment. Dr. Merkel was wonderful. He was friendly and encouraging to my daughter, ensuring she knew she could ask any questions she might have at any point. He absolutely made the technology work for us, and my daughter learned more than I would have thought possible in 30 minutes. She is counting down to her next lesson!

Very knowledgeable. My daughter enjoy learning from him.

So far, I have had only one lesson with Dr. M., the only singing lesson I've had in my entire 66 years of a lifetime. My only regret, is that I did not take them sooner. Dr M. is patient, an expert, and motivational. What more could you ask for when working with a teacher. He thinks he can make a singer out of me; I'll have to trust his judgement. It would be awesome, if he achieves our goal.

Kate is a great teacher! She made me feel comfortable quickly and helped me open up out of my shy self. I was able to take a theater audition and stay calm! What started as just wanted a few lessons, went on to be studying with her for 3 years. She transformed the way I sing and gave me so much confidence in every aspect. 100% would recommend!

"Annie is DONE and went well! We were all so impressed by Eliza’s confidence and grace under pressure (she handled a couple prop mishaps without missing a cue!) and can’t thank you enough for working with her on the Annie songs. She had a mic on so it was a good thing she was already really comfortable with the songs as they didn’t get to practice with the mic until the dress rehearsal right before the show. Only 3 (her, Annie and Tessie) of the 10 orphans on stage were mic-ed, so we could really hear her. The time and money we spent with you was sooooo worth it. Thanks for being such an amazing singing teacher!"

"Scott is absolutely FABULOUS! He is everything you need in a vocal coach and more. I signed up for lessons with Scott to prep for some Broadway auditions. I'm a dancer who knows nothing about singing in an audition. Scott to the rescue! He helped me put together a songbook, taught me how to properly speak to the accompanist, and act out the lyrics I was singing. He has such a great background and knowledge in musical theater and it shows! Scott has a great personality and is so much fun to work with! 10 out of 5 stars!"

Want to Someday Star On Broadway? 3 Tips from an Expert

Dreaming about someday starring on the Broadway stage? Here, Los Angeles, CA teacher Meredith P. shares her expert tips to help you get there...   As an audience member, you can sit back and relax at a Broadway show, and not truly understand the work that it takes to get to that coveted stage and the tremendous blood, sweat, and tears that go into each performance. As with athletes, the only thing the audience sees is the end result. A lot of times it can be intoxicating and glamor …
