Want to belt like Beyonce?
Broadway dreams?
Act in Movies?
Voice-overs?
Learn how to write hit songs?
Need help taking your public speaking and/or sales presentations to the next level?

Tap Into Your Artistry is the ultimate (online) gym for serious, aspiring and professional performers who want to train like a pro in the fields of: TV/Film acting, Broadway, and the Music industry.

Hi, I'm Stephen.

I'm a vocal trainer, private/on-set acting coach, show-biz consultant, and songwriting teacher. My specialty is pop/rock, broadway, on camera, live presentations/sales, and helping songwriters find their voice, both lyrically and sonically.

Discover the fastest and most efficient way to build, strengthen, and condition your voice. Simple, safe, systematic weekly vocal exercises that embrace a Zen like approach with an a

thletic mentality.

I'm also a SAG-AFTRA and AEA actor and ASCAP songwriter and producer. If you want to learn more about auditioning, acting in movies, performing musicals/plays on Broadway, writing your own songs, and developing show-biz career strategy, (headshots, meeting agents/managers, etc) I help TIYA members every day achieve their artistic dreams.

MORE INFO:
I have been singing since I was 3, anything and everything from Michael Jackson to Elvis Presley to Luciano Pavarotti. Originally from Colorado, I studied music/theatre, as well as vocal pedagogy at The University of Colorado at Boulder, where I graduated with highest honors. I made my Broadway debut in "The Phantom of the Opera" at age 24. I also performed in "Chess in concert" as a featured rock tenor soloist at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway with Josh Groban. I have understudied and performed lead roles in the first AEA National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s "Whistle Down the Wind." Regionally, I have played many lead roles all over the United States in productions including "Les Miserables," "Miss Saigon," "The Wild Party," and "She Loves Me."

I have recently released a singing online course. Feel free to check out Udemy and look for Sing Like You've Always Imagined to see what is new!

As an ASCAP recording artist, currently I am working in the studio with a full production team on my first pop/rock album. I also often sing on demos for producers and write songs for other artists in many different genres.

As a TV/Film actor, most recently I was on set with Marvel's "Luke Cage" on Netflix, and I played the lead role of (Abraham) Lincoln in the SAG-AFTRA short film, "These Honored Dead." I also have played lead roles in 4 SAG-AFTRA short films, as well as the comedic lead in a SAG-AFTRA Web-series pilot, "Bodega Nights." I was called back for producers as a Series Regular for both Cinemax and HBO.

TIYA clients include (aspiring) Broadway performers, Film and TV actors, singer-songwriters, voice-over artists, news anchors, dancers, comedians, corporate sales presenters, as well as karaoke enthusiasts, and songwriting hobbyists.

My TIYA members have performed on television in Smash, Glee, and venues around NYC ranging from The Underground, Le Poisson Rouge, Drom, Cornelia Street Cafe, Arlene’s Grocery, to the Broadway productions of Ghost, Sister Act, Evita, Wicked, West Side Story, South Pacific, The Phantom of the Opera, and Rent to name a few.

*** Lesson Details ***
We will always work on whatever you want.

For Singing, as a vocal technician/trainer I am like going to the gym for your voice. My exercises are safe, simple, and most importantly, I teach you how to practice correctly.

For ACTing, we can explore both the foundation itself, building your acting chops with monologues and scenes, as well as learning how to audition-- the tricks of the trade mastering the camera frame and how to create memorable auditions for TV/Film.

For Songwriting, we can explore the fundamentals of both lyrics and music, as well as catchy hooks, production, and song structure.

You may use my time however you wish (Voice, Acting, Songwriting, or Artistic/Career guidance).

Most vocal sessions will usually be a combination of strengthening/conditioning exercises, and then exploring/performing a song.

The TIYA vocal training method is uniquely my own as it combines both Bel Canto and Speech Level Singing. Emphasis is on developing a relaxed, released, authentic vocal timbre to sing in any style. Concepts explored include: Coordination, Registration, and Intonation. Chest, Head, Edge, and Pharyngel registration, 2 instruments in 1, posture, breath management, vocal cord adduction, trigger phrases, ring, consistency, and more.

Most ACTing sessions will be theatre monologues, TV/Film sides and/or On camera auditioning craft.

Career consultations usually include how to get an agent, headshots, branding, and marketing to align your artistic dreams with a strategy for success.

Stephen has definitely provided me an insightful way of analyzing songs and for writing my own music myself. He is really helpful and gives you many eye opening advices and tools that encourage you to develop your artistry. Furthermore, he provides a friendly and non judegemental atmosphere, which is essential for a student. I totally recommend him.

About Michael

Hello everyone, I am Michael - I am currently in school at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY pursuing my doctoral degree in vocal performance and literature. I have sung all over the world in operas, musicals and with professional choirs. I enjoy teaching all levels of singing and love to inspire my students to reach their full potential. Singing should be fun and it can become even more exciting when the fundamentals start to fall into place. I am a casual but professional teacher and like to tailor my teaching to each one of my students. I like to make singing a very concrete and sensation based learning experience so students can rely on more than just their ears to guide themselves. Good singing is good singing, period - any genre ,any style... it all stems from the basics and setting up a strong foundation on which t

o build the voice.

American baritone Michael most recently performed the role of Lieutenant Audebert in Silent Night by Kevin Puts with Buffalo Opera in New York. Other recent credits include: Sam in Trouble in Tahiti by Leonard Bernstein at the Aspen Opera Center, Marcello in La Boheme by Puccini in San Diego, CA and Tom in Gershiwin’s, Blue Monday with Opera de Tijuana in Mexico. Michael will return to the Aspen Opera Center this summer to sing Frederick Egerman in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Most recently on the concert stage he was the baritone soloist for the Monteverdi Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop and Haydn’s Seasons with the Eastman Philharmonia in Rochester, NY. In 2016 Michael received the second-place award in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Rossini Competition adjudicated by the famous Rossini tenor, Rockwell Blake. Michael is currently pursuing a doctorate in music performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where in 2019 will sing the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

I started lessons with Michael having done both contemporary voice and years of choir. But prior to training with Michael, I'd never really been coached as to how to properly sing in a classical style. He's allowed me to find an entire element of my voice I didn't know I had and made it incredibly straightforward to progress. I now absolutely love singing in a way I didn't previously think I would.

Michael is knowledgeable, funny, and thoughtful. I am a wind instrumentalist, and Michael tailored voice lessons to discuss topics specifically related to my areas of experience. I would highly recommend Michael for voice lessons!

About Alex

Hey, my name is Alex. I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, Oud, bouzouki, keyboards, voice, drums, flute, etc.), composer, performer, recording artist, arranger/orchestrator/transcriber, recording engineer/producer & music educator.

I graduated from the University of St. Thomas "Cum Laude" in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance, with minors in Music Production & Composition. While attending St. Thomas I served as the Music Theory tutor, as well as the live sound/stage/light/recording technician for student & faculty recitals.

I have been playing professionally & teaching for over a decade. My passion for music is something that I love to share with anyone else who feels inclined to make music. My goal is to share the skills & knowledge I've acquired throughout my experiences with those willing to learn & dedic

ate themselves to the craft of making music.

I am a full-time member of Maiden Dixie (country/rock; guitar/vocals), Sumo Seven (Funk; bass/vocals), & Armadillo Tank (Prog rock; guitar/vocals). Along with my solo band, I perform for numerous pit orchestras, bands, tributes, & artists around the Twin Cities area.

In February 2019, I released my debut solo album, "Sonic Chef's Circus Absurdities".

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an experienced gigging musician in most major genres of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, funk, folk, metal, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, instrumental rock, "shred," pop, world music, electronica, etc. & feel comfortable conveying the techniques, approaches & idioms to a student by breaking them down into digestible components, while making these new ideas relatable to material they are already familiar with.

In the end, I want the student to learn what they're most interested in learning. I'm here to answer any questions they may have & with my experiences, I feel confident that I will be able to either answer these questions or point them in the right direction. Some topics covered:

Scales/modes
Ear training
Instrument-specific techniques (ie bending, tapping, sweep picking, etc.)
Songwriting & Composition
Arranging & Orchestrating
Sight-reading
Improvisation
Chordal theory & how to read charts
Practice routines & approaches
Instrument maintenance
Instrument-based gear (guitars, amplifiers, effects, picks, slides, capos, etc.)

The student will learn at the pace they set for themselves & can only get out of it the amount of effort they put forth. I expect my students to practice on a regular basis (however brief each session may be). Consistency is key for progress to be made, & if they hold up their end of the bargain, the payoffs will be quite substantial!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Practice amplifier, tuner, music stand(s), guitar picks & cables.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide guitar neck paper. I expect the students to have their own instrument & any materials they may need to achieve the goals they've set for themselves (such as a weekly notebook).

*** Specialties ***
Progressive rock, classic rock, blues, jazz, funk, disco, classical, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, flamenco guitar; music theory, sight-reading, composition, songwriting, film scoring, music production.

I'm a classical violinist, a loving single mother, and a independent business owner for life, health and accident insurance through AFLAC from New York. I am a very accomplished musician performing in many venues and events such as the Long Island String Festival, NYC All County Music Festivals, Valley stream District 13 Music Festival, NY All State Concert, NYSMMA Music competitions, and yes even Carnegie Hall with the NY Metropolitan Youth Principle Orchestra 1st Violin. Ive learned that nothing of value in life comes without blood sweat and tears but it is worth it.

The things I love most in life are my son and providing for our family. On week days, you'll usually find me prospecting potential clients to help with their benefits for employees in any type of weather, for my independent business through AFLAC. On the weekends I like

to take my son with my dogs (sometimes) to the park, museums, and church or teach him the various wonders of life.

I am a lifelong actor and passionate teacher, who loves to help students find joy, freedom, and dynamism in performance.

In addition to performing, I am a Standardized Patient at UMD and John's Hopkin's University, where I assist doctors and nurses in patient communication. As a teaching artist, I have worked with students age 5-88 on finding and sharing their unique voice.

Jennie is a wonderful speaking coach! She is incredibly kind, patient, and encouraging. I feel much more confident in how I present myself to others, especially those I've just met in the formal setting of an interview. Jennie has prepared me with warmup exercises to suit any type of mood, whether it be calming down or harnessing nervous energy in a positive way. Additionally, I learned effective ways to be more present and truly connect with people in interviews. I recommend working with Jennie- she is very genuine and truly cares about her students. I look forward to the chance to work with her in the future!

My work changed dramatically after studying with Carlton. He's the real deal. Period. His solid approach prepares you with tools and technique to perform at your utmost, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned professional. If you've been searching for a process that challenges you to step up your game and go beyond your own limitations, I highly recommend studying with Carlton right away. His level of experience and knowledge in the craft of acting is incredibly inspiring and motivating. Thanks to Carlton, I've developed confidence that he helped me bring to the fore in my work.

Since I’ve moved to LA, Carlton Byrd is without a doubt the best acting teacher I’ve had. His ability to break down a scene and translate it to actual actable ideas is unparalleled. He is also very encouraging of impulses and creative ideas. Carlton is very personable, supportive, but is also not afraid to push you to bring out your best. He is very insightful of the acting business and will challenge you to set goals that you can accomplish both long and short term. Most important, is that Carlton Byrd is a great human being that cares deeply about acting and his students. If you bring your passion for the craft to the table, he will provide the rest.

I’ve been taking classes with Carlton in my 2 year Conservatory at the at the Lee Strasberg Institute as well as at New Collective in Hollywood and he's hands down one of the best acting teachers I’ve had so far.
Carlton taught me to work harder, think further and make stronger bolder choices and commit to the choices I’ve made in my acting.
He taught me how to dissect a script to have a further deeper understanding of the story, the subtext, the character and their relationships. He taught me how to build a character and the exercises that will help me in the process such as movement work, animal exercise, writing a character bio and so on. He has a deep understanding of vivid behavior and details that will make a scene or a character come to life.
He is a well all-around trained acting teacher and a super hardworking person in general which has a positive influence on your own work ethics and your personal goals.
What makes him unique as an acting teacher is that he is still active in the business himself. So not only is he a good acting teacher but he is also up to date with the industry.

"Jeremy Kruse is a working actor and an excellent coach who showed me how fun and rewarding a career in film and television could be. Being a student of Je
remy's for almost two whole years, I looked to him as both a mentor and a friend. He taught everything from breaking down a script to being typecast for a role; even going as far to recreate the physical conditions of an audition space. Since departing from the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, he's been supportive of my own endeavors as a rising actor, both putting me in touch with a voiceover coach and encouraging me to take up improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade. I began working with Jeremy my first year of highschool and have witnessed firsthand how well his contagious enthusiasm and cultivated professionalism influences his pupils, no matter their age or level of experience. Now four years later, I can say with confidence that were it not for Jeremy Kruse and my class with him every Saturday for 80 weeks, I wouldn't be as devoted as I am today to pursuing acting as a career."
