Marc is extremely patient and passionate about his teaching. Not only does he emphasize the basic techniques for a beginner like me to master, but also make it fun for me. He also tries to motivate me with music theory and history which definitely help me understand the music better and inspire me to master the basics. Marc has an amazingly amount of knowledge in everything else as well, such as physics etc. that shows up in his teaching from time to time, which makes the learning experience much richer!

Marc is an incredibly friendly drum coach who also knows when to push his students to their limits. He has the rare ability to inspire his students so that they perform to the best of their abilities. If you don't sign up with Marc for your next drum lesson, I would suggest re-evaluating your decisions.

Marc is a great teacher. Classes are always very friendly and productive. In my case, each class begins with a review of progress/practice, and ends with a meaningful and personalized homework. He is also very flexible, sometimes I had to move my classes around and he's always super responsive and understanding. I knew nothing about drums, and I am happy I decided to begin my journey to learn how to play them, with Marc as a mentor!

Michael is a patient and encouraging teacher. His lessons are energetic and we always get a lot done. You can tell, too, that he is knowledgeable and passionate about the material. He can apply both technical skill and professional experience to his lessons, while also adapting to the student and allowing them to advance at their own pace. He motivates with praise but will tell you when something needs work/practice. I leave every lesson excited to continue learning and improving. I recommend lessons with Michael!

Online Drum Teacher

I have been teaching drums since 2003, and I start my students using The Drumset Musician, by Rick Mattingly and Rod Morgenstein. I also choose materials, from my extensive library, to address the needs of each individual. I am familiar with rock, country, blues, jazz, and world grooves, as well as marching band and orchestra. I teach the components of and purposes of voices within the set, proper grip, reading music, coordination, and feel. I also teach students how to analyze and map songs, so they can excel in a band setting. If a student is wanting to be in marching and symphonic bands, I can prepare them for those pursuits, as well. I have two sets in my studio, as well as abundant hand and auxiliary percussion instruments.

About Tracy

I have been playing the drum set in various bands since 2001. I have also been playing with the OKC Community Orchestra since 2009. I have played in symphonic and jazz bands and a percussion ensemble. I have taught a percussion class, private lessons, and I have been a full time music teacher in

"As an instructor, David exudes the perfect balance of amiability and intimidation. He will inspire you to work your absolute hardest without scaring you away. Personality-wise, he is that happy medium somewhere between Mr. Rogers and J.K. Simmons in Whiplash. I studied with David during my college years and 7+ years later I still utilize his concepts in everyday practice. There are many specific stories, ideas and exercises of his that have always stuck with me and come up quite often when I am working on something new or teaching a lesson or class of my own. Whether we were learning orchestral excerpts, 4-way independence, Bach fugues or just playing quarter notes with the metronome, I always left our lessons feeling highly motivated and anxious to practice. It's also great to have a teacher that can blow your mind with his own playing. It might be difficult for some teachers to get students into something like the tambourine or triangle but when he picked one up and casually played some insane rhythms and advanced techniques I was immediately inspired to learn to do the same. Not to mention his drum work on Matt Herskowitz's "Forget Me Not" - some of the things he does on that record still keep me up at night. I'm very grateful for my time as a student of David's and glad I can still learn from him as a friend and colleague!"

"A good musician is not necessarily a good teacher. Most musicians do not know how to teach, period.

A good music teacher not only knows how to perform on his/instrument well but knows the art and technique of imparting the knowledge. Those are two totally different skills.

Ray is one of those rare guys to come around who has both skill well developed: he is a great musician, a great pro drummer who knows how to put himself in the student's shoes and thus can impart to the student exactly what the student needs in order to make progress.

Add to that a great positive personality and passion to boot and you have a great teacher and mentor.

I took "Advanced Drum Chart Reading" lessons and "Group Performance Workshops" classes from Ray at Cornel School of Contemporary Music and I am continuing studying with him after my graduation. I highly recommend him."
