I have been playing and performing on piano since I was 10!!!!I am a string teacher of 35 years. I also conduct an orchestra of 6-13 year olds at Manhattan School of music . I am also a teacher of chamber music and can coach groups in their homes as well. I play, piano, cello, violin ,bass and viola. I have studied privately on all instruments and include music theory with my lessons. I have two masters degrees and permanent certification in NY and NJ. I believe that students need to love the music and enjoy their own levels of skill and success. I also teach all kinds of music and can teach students how to write music on their computers using Finale. I write my own arrangements for orchestra and can write ANY song you may wish to play ,no matter what level you are. My motto is:if it isn't fun ,why do it"?

About Valerie
After a long and successful career as an opera and concert soloist and vocal pedagogue, Ms. G. returned to NY and has opened my studio to serious students of all ages. Having lived and worked all over Europe, she is fluent in German, Italian and French as well in the musical style needed for art song, oratorio and opera. She also teaches the €œbelt technique€ needed for musical theater, pop, and jazz. She has taught privately in the USA, Germany and Italy for many years, as well as on the faculty of the University of Koblenz, Germany.

During the summers, she offers voice lessons at her studio in Tuscany, Italy where she is also artistic director of the Camerata Colombaia Music Festival and director of "Casentino Voice" , an intensive vocal program for singers with masterclasses, private lessons, coaching and performance.

Some Tes
timonials from my students:
"At last, someone who's willing and able to understand the individuality of my voice. Ms. G. is a great teacher for the professional singer, though I regret I didn't study with someone like her when I was a student. She does not require that you start from the beginning again with 'her' technique. She is creative and intuitive and has the skill to help you immediately improve upon that which you already have. I am very excited that I have found her!"

"Valerie can teach you how to sing without pressure while still producing a strong sound".

"A good teacher, must be able to help you significantly in the first lesson. Valerie is one of those".

"Since I've been studying with Valerie, my voice has gotten richer and more even. Singing feels a lot easier now"

"I've studied with so many teachers, Valerie is the first one to focus on my problems, solve them and make me feel good about my strengths at the same time".

About Tara
I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their lessons as well as learning to become fluent in the language of music. It is not required that folks learn to read music necessarily, but it can be a part of the lessons if desired. I love to see my students able to continue learning and playing on their own, be able to hold their own at jams and on the stage is they so desire, or just enjoy making music for themselves. I have techniques that have proven effective to help get past jam phobia, that help folks learn to improvise who have not had any luck with doing so before, and help getting away fro
m sheet music addictions to be able to have fun and confidence out at jams. I also can give a good foundation in music theory as it applies to one's actual playing and have it be fun and make sense.

About Gabrielle
Bonjour a tous!

Dear Students,

A native French speaker, I have been tutoring students of all levels since 2008. I was the main French and German Instructor at the San Jose Learning Center in the Silicon Valley before moving to New York.

The core of my lessons are drawn from language books, which allows everyone to work at his or her own pace during the week. This is supplemented by tailored PDFs that target your particular interests.

Lessons always begin with a dialogue, no matter your level. From how you are feeling, to what you did during the week, to the weather of your best friend's gossip, we warm up with a conversation I type out as we go.

The rest of the lesson is then spent reviewing previous work and introducing new material in a variety of ways, constantly setting a rule in practice. Poems, songs or texts, depen
ding on your interest, keep the content alive and interesting.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

I hope to hear from you, meet you, and work with you!

Sincerely,
Gabrielle

About David
Hi my name is David and I love and enjoy teaching guitar lessons to students of all ages and I come to your home for lessons. My goal in life is to enrich people's lives with music. The first thing I do is interview the student and find out why they want to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized custom guitar lesson workbook for each of my students at no cost to the student or parent. This way, my students have a weekly organized practice routine and they become successful. Having a teaching deg
ree, (B.A. Music - Conservatory of Music - Concentration: Studio Composition / Master's in Education - M.A.T. / Adolescence Education (Grades 5-12) 3.56 GPA).

I create all of the guitar lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, rhythm, chords, scales, riffs, arpeggio's, songs, and exercises etc. I break down songs into easy digestible parts so students can learn a song in a logical and most manageable way. I use a color coded method to teach that I created that help students not only learn and understand scales and chords but also they are able to see visually how scales and chords are created. I currently teach private guitar lessons and have worked for 12 years in our local schools as a teacher with students K through 12. For 2 years, from 2012 to 2014 I taught an after-school enrichment guitar and songwriting class. I created the curriculum and music workbook specifically for 6 and 7-year old children whom I taught at Pequenakonck Elementary School in North Salem, NY. In College I won an award for the most Improved Studio Composition Student at Purchase College. I incorporate lessons that I have learned in the classroom as a teacher to help my guitar students learn. I feel the most important thing for my students to learn about music is to have a lot of fun.

Hi guitarists, my name is Chris. I am a singer songwriter and guitar player. I teach beginners to advanced in the styles of Rock/Pop,Country/Bluegrass, and Blues. Everybody is different and learn at a different rate. I set up a class that will work best for you. We start with the basics. All the good stuff! You learn to read, keep time. We will pick a song to start that you want to learn, and away we go! I feel that learning shouldn't feel like homework. You should be excited to pick up the guitar. No doubt learning something new can be a bit scary, and the beauty of the guitar is what you put into it, you will get back in spades!

Some students I teach are interested in songwriting and recording, which I teach as well.We will learn what makes a song a song, and how to write one. I have a Pro Tools studio and offer my songwriting stud
ents the chance to write their own songs and record and make a CD or MP3 of their new hit. Feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss further how best guitar/songwriting fits in your world!

I have studied under Chris’ tutelage for a little over one year. I can say with confidence, Chris is
one of the kindest, most knowledgeable, accommodating, and encouraging instructors I have ever had
the privilege of studying with.

Instruction: Chris works at the level of his student. He doesn’t assume you have mastery in any skill and
works with you each week to build up a core set of basic skills. From an early point, Chris was able to
adapt to my level and show me fundamental skill building exercises.

Lesson Variety: Chris would teach different aspects to learning the guitar with each lesson. He would
supply any instrument or tool needed and would take the time to explain what each object does. At the
end of each lesson, I would feel confident in the material that was being taught, and felt that each
lesson was new and important. I’ve learned various rhythms, notes, styles of playing, and more.

Flexibility: Chris was very accommodating to my schedule. He was consistent and timely for each lesson,
and understanding when life circumstances would interfere. He works well at adapting to how you want
to learn, a key ingredient to being an effective instructor.

In summary, Chris was an excellent instructor, I learned a lot from his weekly lessons, and he is
just a straight-up nice guy. I would recommend him to anyone looking to learn how to play the guitar or
improve one’s skills.

Hello to all,
I was a weekly student for Chris, and I have to say that our lessons together we're always a great time for the both of us. I practiced with Chris for about two years, and in that time I never once felt like I was under some sort of pressure to get prepared for the next lesson. The reason for that is because Chris is the kind of teacher that makes you want to get better. Every time he left me an assignment of some sort, whether it be practicing blues progressions to recording a solo part to a rythym track, I could never help myself from getting to work the second he stepped out my front door. Chris truly created an atmosphere for me that made it easy to learn, and I'm the kind of person who has a hard time learning. I seriously recommend Chris not only because he is a great teacher but a great friend as well!

About Constantin
A noted bass player in my native Romania and Western Europe, I came to the United States in 1989. I was a winner in the 1990 International Bassists Society Solo Competition in New York where the renowned bassist Gary Karr heard me perform, and he made this statement about me. ‘Without hesitation I can say that he is one of the great talents of today.” Karr also described my great technical facility as well as my innate musicality with “He plays with a lot of soul and communicates musical ideas easily.”

My new career in America began to flourish when I starting studying at Julliard with Eugene Levinson and when I auditioned for the New York Philharmonic and became a regular performing substitute. A resident of Connecticut, I earlier served as assistant principal of the New Haven Symphony, principal bass of the Norwalk Symphony, as
sistant principal of the Bridgeport Symphony and have played with the San Francisco Symphony, the New Jersey Symphony, the Long Island Philharmonic and other orchestras. I have also appeared as soloist with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, the Connecticut Concerto Consortium, the Black Sea Philharmonic and other Connecticut and overseas orchestras. I was principal bass for the Greenwich Symphony for over twenty years.

My family stems from a family of artisans in the Romanian town of Focsani. As part of my studies at the Bucharest Conservatory, I was trained as a luthier – a maker of stringed instruments. Seeing the need for an artist-craftsman with a special knowledge of the double bass, I opened an atelier in Westport and one in Greenwich(Conn.) in which now services and rebuilds distinguished instruments for professionals and students. Deeply interested in the education of young musicians, I am a state-certified teacher in Connecticut and in the past have served on the board of the Connecticut Division of the American String Teachers Association.

I have organized a yearly double bass recital for my students, the first of its kind in the area, also performing in duo recitals as the Bottesini Bass Duo, the first in America to explore the virtuoso repertoire for two basses.
