Ah, ear training. Sounds scary, is actually a ton of fun. I love it. I do it with all my students, with my mum, with my 6 month old daughter. If you are already serious about music, ear training will deepen your ability to hear and respond, compose and improvise. If you are a regular human, ear training will open your mind and sharpen it. Better than Sudoku!

About Indigo
Indigo has been working in the performing arts since she was biting ankles, first as a dancer and vocalist, and later as a guitarist. She's composed music for and/or sung dozens of international television commercials, spots on Law and Order and songs in Films premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, and as a lead guitarist and vocalist, toured the US, Canada, Europe and Iceland, extensively, performing in hundreds of theaters and rock clubs around the world, including-- Madison Square Garden, BAM, The Beacon Theater, Music Hall Of Williamsburg, The Bowery Ballroom, Club Nokia (LA), The Santa Barbara Bowl, The Chicago Theater, Baby's All Right, The Mercury Lounge, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (SF), Pickathon (Portland)

As a teacher, Indigo's method has, at it's core, a commitment to the idea of teaching a man to fish rather than giving hi
m a fish, and every student, regardless of age or experience will be taught to understand, first and foremost, how music works, so that he or she comes away, not only with the skills to play the material covered in the lessons, but, eventually, the ability to teach themselves any other material they're interested in.

With an emphasis on ear training, her natural approach to learning theory, makes even the most wary or challenged student understand with ease, and find pleasure in the process of learning. Rote memorization is eliminated and replaced by a deep understanding, which grows naturally, while technique improves alongside it. Students quickly find themselves able to play, sing and understand things previously only dreamed of.

These universal building blocks of music apply across all genres. Technique will be tailored to your specific interests, and from the start, a portion of each lesson will be devoted to learning the material of your choice.

Indigo also specializes in coaching songwriters, and can, in a gentle and non-invasive way, help to guide you through the process of both mastering craft, and establishing your own individual voice as a writer.

I teach a wide range of genres and styles from classical music, blues, jazz and rock to heavy metal with an emphasis on becoming A-Level lead guitar soloists and song writers. David is a very skilled drummer and a very enthusiastic teacher. In lessons, he seems to like to split time between practicing rudiments and learning to play different rhythms on the set. He is also exceptionally patient and supportive with my 9-year-old, highly distractible daughter. David is very positive, pointing out things that are going well and interesting rhythms that they discover. I am really glad we found David--he is an excellent teacher and I love watching my daughter learn so much about music!

Using a Kodaly based approach, students will learn to identify melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic elements and ultimately to be able to read music from written notation.

Ear training encompasses perceiving how sounds are moving so that it can be sung, notated, or played back. Conversely, training the ear enables one to mentally hear notated music in advance of playing it. This valuable skill speeds all aspects of musical learning.

About Edna
Welcome to my Music Studio where you can learn the skills you need to reach your musical dreams. It's a privilege to collaborate with students pre-school through retirees. Together we explore the satisfying process of reaching musical goals. After earning a Bachelor of Music Education, I studied Kodaly Music Education while applying the methodology in school and studio. I've helped many students thrive, and I'd love to help you do the same. I offer over 30 years performing and teaching experience, a genuine enjoyment of people, and a high standard of professional ethics.

Ear Training is a very important skill that musicians use to identify - by hearing only - basic elements of music (pitches, intervals, chords, rhythms, etc.). It is very important as part of a well-rounded musical study and is often a mandatory component of music study! Students will learn to recognize pitches, intervals, chord qualities, transcribe played melodies and rhythms, and sight-sing simple melodies, all of which will help their growth as a musician.

About Mona
I'm an active flutist and Japanese enthusiast currently living in Seattle, WA! I hold degrees in Flute Performance from New England Conservatory and the University of Washington, and will continue my studies on Fulbright at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland this fall. I believe that learning music should be fun and inspiring, but that 95% of artistry is simply hard work! I therefore create a positive and encouraging environment for all of my students, while still setting challenging goals. Additionally, I tailor my teaching to fit each student’s needs so that learning potential can be maximized. Stylistic choices in musical expression/phrasing are encouraged through the incorporation of music theory, music history, and ear training skills into lessons. I also believe that body awareness is important, and will include stretches and
practice methods into each lesson, so students can practice efficiently and prevent injuries!

I grew up speaking both Japanese and English and welcome beginning Japanese students! Students and I work out of the Genki I, Genki II, and the Tobira textbooks. Japanese lessons focus on reading, writing, and speaking standard Japanese at the conversational level.

Do you want to be able to hear a pop song and instantly know what every instrument is playing? Do you want to hear intervals, chord qualities, modes and understand how that relates to your music theory knowledge.

I'm your guy for that. Hey, I'm Blake I went to the Eastman School of Music and aced all my Aural skill courses, now I'm ready to impart that level of knowledge on you at a pace that suites your learning style!

About Blake
Hello there!

I'm 25 and a graduate of the Eastman School of Music with a degree in Jazz Guitar performance. I currently work full-time as a freelance musician, I play in wedding/corporate bands, jazz groups, hip-hop bands, funk bands, pop bands, original music projects, and I also run a hip-hop/jazz group. I'm a funny, easy-going guy and I want lessons to be fun and inspiring. With that being said I definitely like to set and accomplish realistic goals with my students, cause why not be the best you can be, right?

My teaching style follows the "Music is Easy" mantra. Basically, I look at it as my job to take the intimidation factor out of music, and let it be what it should be, FUN! It's not to say we won't be learning theory, or getting our skills together, but it is to say that we'll be taking all the fancy lingo and breaking it dow
n for you in concrete practical ways.

In terms of what I teach that really runs the gambit, I teach most styles of contemporary guitar playing, and additionally can teach voice as well. I also have taken extensive marketing classes at the University of Rochester, which means that I can offer some key advise on music business and marketing strategies for your band. I also run my own booking agency, so if you want to talk shop on how to get gigs, which avenues of gigs make the most bread, and other things of that nature, I'm your guy as well!

Hope to hear from you and start some fun learning together!
