I have been playing guitar for 26 years, and have experience playing and teaching practically every style of guitar, including fingerstyle, classical, jazz, folk, rock, blues, pop, country, and metal. Classical is definitely one of the most challenging genres, but also one of the most rewarding. I have been teaching guitar for almost 10 years. Let my experience and patience guide you on your way to mastering classical guitar!

About Ian
A lifelong musician and songwriter, Ian S. has extensive experience teaching guitar and piano to students age 3 and up both as a private music instructor and as a staff music instructor at the Institute of Music for Children. With 28 years of experience on the guitar and 32 years on piano, Ian has studied and performed with several award-winning music artists, and has written, recorded, and produced over one hundred songs. He plays and teaches a variety of styles on both the guitar and the piano, from classical to jazz to rock. Ian is patient, friendly, and loves sharing the gift of music.

Ian was the guitarist in the Princeton University Jazz Ensemble for 3 seasons, was selected from a nationwide pool of musicians to perform at a special music event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and was the recipient of the New Jersey Gove
rnor's Award in Arts Education for the category of Instrumental Music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very laid back and friendly, and I want you or your child to be as comfortable as possible during our lessons. You or your child will develop confidence and musical intelligence. I will make your lessons fun, enjoyable, and effective. Boredom is not an option! Music is fun... let's keep it that way.

The teaching methods I use will be custom-tailored to your individual needs, personality and specific musical goals. If it's guitar or piano you want to learn, I want to get you playing exactly what you want to be playing as soon as possible. That's what you're here for, and that's what I'm here for. I will make it happen. If it's songwriting that you want to learn, I will help you access that place inside of you that is dying to express itself creatively, and will teach you techniques to harness that energy and translate it successfully into musical expression.

You can expect to learn all the basics of music theory, proper playing techniques, improvisation and spontaneous musical expression, and I will help you develop your "ear" so you can figure out songs you like just by listening to them. This is all about you and your goals, and I want you to achieve them in a fun and engaging way.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room: Upright piano, guitars, amps, keyboard, percussion

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in pop, rock, classical, jazz, blues, folk, fingerstyle (guitar), etc. I also teach improvisation and songwriting, and try to develop the student's ear for figuring out songs they like on their own.

Ian is a fantastic instructor. In our second lesson, he completely changed the way I look at scales and soloing AND helped easily make sense of a music theory concept that always confused me (and how to apply it practically).

On top of it all, he is very approachable and easy to work with. Highly recommend!

Ian is a wonderful teacher! I have been taking lessons with Ian for two months, and am very happy with his instruction and my progress. He has been particularly helpful in clarifying music theory concepts (to someone with no real musical training) and then translating those concepts to playing and practicing. I highly recommend him!

I studied classical guitar on the college level. For those interested, I can supply needed instruction on classical guitar technique, reading, and performance.

About Wes
I studied classical guitar and composition at Asbury College and later more in depth guitar studies rock, jazz, and classical at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I have been teaching steadily for the past ten years as well as spending my time with various other musical projects such as leading worship for my church, performing for various parties and weddings, and composing and recording music for a short film. I use my experience and broad understanding of music to inform the way that I teach, so that my students have a robust experience of all aspects of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have a lesson plan that I follow for beginning students to get them through the basics. As a teacher I am laid back, and positive, but always try to give the student a clear reflection of how they are progressing. I find that some students thrive with
a lot of structure and others prefer a looser approach and I am quite comfortable teaching both ways. If the student maintains a consistent practice regimen, they should be able to play songs from the radio within 3 or 4 months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the living room with an amp, keyboard, computer, desk, parents can sit on couch in a separate room

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my student to provide their instrument (including amp if necessary) and any instructional materials required.

*** Specialties ***
I have had a lot of experience teaching beginning and intermediate students with method books, and have used them to teach reading, theory, technique, and repertoire. Most often, I take a slightly looser approach which I feel allows me to mold my teaching to fit the individual student's needs

Guitar lessons with me are unique because although I am young, I am a very experienced teacher already. I started learning guitar at 10 years old. By the time I was 16 I was gigging and teaching kids in my neighborhood and any Craigslist clients I could find. At 18, I took a 1.5 year program at the Los Angeles College of Music, where I graduated with an AA in guitar performance. Since then I have worked as a professional musician, and also as a teacher /consultant with Adopt the Arts, a non profit started by Matt Sorum (drummer of Guns N Roses, Hollywood Vampires) and director Abby Berman. In my time at Adopt the Arts I have amassed over 4000 teaching hours of teaching kids ages 4-13, so I am very experienced with kids and get along with them great since. I have also been giving other private lessons to people of all ages since 2011. Qualities that make me stand out as a teacher are relatability, patience, and an ability to identify the proper pace for the student to enjoy the ...

Taught at the basic level very well. If you know nothing about music or guitar Tommy's your guy. Goes through all the simple steps at an even pace making the entire experience relaxing. From there giving you the knowledge of your scales and blues scales, teaching you how to make mini solos on the spot really helps out with the musicality of it all. 10/5

I love teaching guitar lessons and have done so for over twenty years. I have had dozens of happy students through the years. Whether you are brand new to guitar or have been playing for a while I will take you where you are at and advance you to the next level. I teach guitar playing first and then from there will show you how to read music and understand the theory behind it all. You will learn to play in the style you prefer and the songs you want to learn. I ask that my students practice a minimum of 15 minutes a day at least five days a week. You will love learning the guitar!

About Adam
I am an encouraging teacher with a proven method of taking students who have never touched a guitar to the intermediate level in a matter of a few months. If you are willing to practice 15 minutes a day and will follow the methods I can show you, I am sure you will feel great about your progress.

Up and coming country music artist Jacob Morris is a former student of mine. Jacob currently lives in the Phoenix, Arizona Valley. His website is simple to find (I am not allowed to put an URL in this profile). I taught Jacob Morris how to play acoustic guitar, including finger style and barre chord techniques. Jacob has a great voice and I helped him accomplish the coordination necessary to sing and play at the same time. My patient and laid back style helped him work through the issues that come with playing and singing at the same time. I al
so helped him explore some chord theory that got him on his way to writing his own songs.

Some guitar students want to perform and I have more students who are musicians today making money with their music. Other students want to play for pleasure. Whether you are ten years old or one hundred and ten years old I will help you unlock the guitar for a life time of playing fun!

I have written my own guitar methods book and have taught other guitar teachers how to use it.

I have instructed individuals and entire classrooms of students, so I am comfortable in a variety of settings.

What are your goals? Do you want to play some chords? Do you want to write music? Do you want to sing and play at the same time? Do you want to own your own guitar instruction company some day? Do you want to write music? Do you want to be able to read music? I am capable of helping you reach these goals from the beginning to intermediate level.

Reach out and let me know how I can help.
