I have instructed Vietnamese language and culture to Americans for 6 years after my arriving in The United States in 2008. I always consider teaching foreign languages is not only a career but an art of inspiration. My expertise is how to conduct and train students to pronounce, speak, read, write and understand Vietnamese language and culture accurately. All of my students reached their goals after 26, 32 or 44 weeks of learning Vietnamese. I received good feedback form them too.

About Chau

I taught Vietnamese language and culture to foreigners, English and Vietnamese to Vietnamese adults and students in Vietnam for 30 years before arriving in the United States in 2008. Then, I continued to instruct Vietnamese language and culture to Americans in Virginia and Washington DC.
I got an Associate degree in Pedagogy in Vietnam in 1977. I also was trained how to instruct U.S diplomats at Foreign Service Institute (FSI) and officers from Defense Language Institute (DLI). I have had enough calm and patience to deal with hard teaching conditions.

I received awards from The Department of State (FSI) and School of Language Studies (FSI) in 2014 and 2015.

I am a native Vietnamese speaker and I have been living in the US for 3 years. I studied Hospitality Management so I can teach you Vietnamese and share the Vietnamese culture with you as well. I was an au pair for 2 years and I have experience teaching Vietnamese for my host kids. They could speak a little bit Vietnamese and sing some songs. I love teaching, especially teach Vietnamese because that is my mother language and I would love to teach people all around the world our language. You will have good experience with me! :)

About Nhu

I am Nhu, 27 years old and I am from Saigon, South Vietnam. I was an au pair, exchange visitor, in the US for 4 years. Au pair is "on par" or "equal" in French, is a term for a in-home child care provider, who lives with a host family as part of an international cultural exchange program.
Au pairs and EduCare companions are typically young international visitors who travel to the United States on a J-1 Visitor Exchange Visa to acquire a better understanding and appreciation of American life while living with an American family and caring for their young children.
In 2 years being an aupair, I had experience tutoring my 2 host kids with home schooling. Basically, I sat down, watched school videos with them and then explained for them what they didn't understand. I also helped them do homework (I meant I let them do their own works first,

then I checked and helped them correct what they did wrong). I taught them. Vietnamese and they learned it so fast. They loved it.
I love teaching, especially teaching English and Vietnamese. I am now an online English Teacher for Antoree.

I believe that students should be given an opportunity to be shown how to practice. This is so that when the instructor is not there to guide, the student is able to know step-by-step of what they are supposed to do.

As a first-generation Vietnamese-American, I have had the amazing opportunity to grow up with both lifestyles.

Vietnamese was the household language for my entire family, naturally,
it was my first language up until 3rd grade.

I am extremely friendly, patient, and knowledgeable in my expertise and would LOVE to share the intricate nuances of the Vietnamese language!

I have been teaching for 6 years at college level, being a Vietnamese native and fluent in English, there will be no problem in communication during lessons. I love to help English speaking students learn and understand not just Vietnamese language but also the culture.

About Thu

I'm teaching not as a teacher but as a friend who loves to introduce my language and culture to others. When you take lessons with me, feel free to address what you want to learn, what you don't know or aren't sure of, we will work it out together.

Hello,

I wrote a review previously after my first lesson but now I've been learning with Thu for over a month I thought I would write a new review. She's very easy-going and takes your input into consideration. If you have requests, she will happily teach you what you want to know. She is very knowledgeable. Most importantly, I have had a very unpredictable and hard schedule to work around, especially living in another time zone to her. She keeps in contact with me on a very regular basis to help work in last minute arrangements for lessons that would not otherwise be possible as I cannot stick to my timeslot and has been an amazing help in this regard. Just wanted to say thank you :)

If you are like me and your first impression of this site was that there was only really 1 instructor that had ratings, then you may be a bit skeptical about booking a lesson. If that is the case, please allow this review to change that!

Thu came prepared with a clear plan to the lesson, and did not waste time getting started. She was very clear and easy to understand, and is a very pleasant person. I feel confident that I will be able to learn a lot with Thu. I will write a much more detailed review when I've had more lessons but for now I am very pleased.

Mike
"Chau is a wonderful instructor who will help you build a strong foundation from the bottom up. I started lessons with him a few months ago having absolute
ly zero experience with the Vietnamese language and since then we have made great progress. He is very thorough and patient with students, and makes sure to take the time to fully explain everything that he teaches to help you progress.

Cant recommend him enough!"

"A year ago, I didn't know a single word of Vietnamese. Today, I'm sitting in a Hanoi cafe having taken a taxi, having had a conversation about the traffic
, our families, and the weather, and having shopped for an hour for gifts for friends and family back in the US - all using Vietnamese I am constantly being complimented on.

Learning Vietnamese was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I had a patient and experienced instructor in Thầy Châu. His methodical curriculum and homework assignments complemented by oral communication rounded me out perfectly. He held me accountable for my shortcomings and built me up when I made mistakes. I wouldn't be where I am today without him and while he wasn't my first instructor, but was by far my best. If I could give him 6 stars, I would."

"I have had three Vietnamese teachers in the past year and Chau is definitely the most professional and organized. He has 30 years of experience as a Viet
namese/French/English teacher in Saigon and has taught Vietnamese to numerous US government employees (including myself) since moving to the US. He tailors each lesson to my needs and has his own personal repository of detailed lessons (i.e. topics like relations/actions in the South China Sea, diplomatic issues, government corruption, environmental pollution, etc). He can speak/teach using either a northern or southern accent as well. He also understands the origin of words, can explain variations in the language over time and between regions, and probably has a better understanding of English grammatical structure than I do. He is an excellent teacher that pushes me to improve every lesson."

"Mr. Chau is a dedicated teacher who works hard to ensure the students really learn. He helped me to be able to analyze and understand complicated Vietnam
ese texts. He brought in materials to supplement the textbooks that helped me to expand my vocabulary and better understand Vietnamese culture. He is enthusiastic and has a sense of humor, so class is always challenging, but also fun."

"Mr. Chau was very patient and kind, especially in teaching the word pronunciations that take practice for new learners. He was able to tailor his lessons
to my goals of learning basic conversational skills for an upcoming trip. I feel like I can greet people, navigate, and order in restaurants. I highly recommend."

"Mr Chau was extremely patient with me as a student while providing the challenge I needed to excel. He understands and can explain the similarities and di
fferences in words between regions and the differences in pronunciation. He understands the topics that need to be reinforced and has given the direction I needed to solve the very complex Vietnamese sentence structure. Very highly recommended."
