I studied French in high school and college and spent a month in Marseilles. I am perfectly capable of helping you learn the basics of the language, how to pronounce words correctly and conjugate basic verbs and such.

About Kevin
I have had a fairly diverse musical background, including playing with bands and orchestras, as well as participating in choral groups and opera. I have a master's degree in music performance for wind conducting, and a bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on piano performance.

I have taught private lessons for several years now and I love every moment with my students! I have a real passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others, both failures and successes. I believe everyone has creative potential, and I believe music is a real universal art form that anyone can tap into if they want. Above all, making and creating music should also be fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep my lessons professional but comfortable too. I don't yell at students for messing up or anything like that. I usually have an agenda b
ut am willing to adjust and compromise if the situation dictates. If you don't have a curriculum in mind, I like Alfred's piano courses, but will do my best to find one that fits you as a student best. My initial goals are to make sure the basics of reading music and performing are set so that no matter what musical avenue you want to pursue, you will be successful. I do specialize in classical music but enjoy creating and playing in other genres as well.

I now also offer lessons online, as well as tutoring in most math areas!

***CANCELLATION POLICY***
I kindly ask for 24 hour notice whenever possible if a lesson is going to be missed. Generally speaking, if I don't hear from a student and their lesson time passes I will mark the lesson as missed, but I am also usually more than willing to make up the lesson at a later time.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano keyboard at my home.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect students to have their own instruments as needed, as well as music paper, pencils, etc. I may be able to provide some of those materials on occasion as well as some books/recordings, but will by and large expect students to purchase those for themselves.

*** Specialties ***
I am much more familiar with classical styles and Broadway. My music writing style tends to be somewhere between neo-classical and avant-garde.

Susan is a wonderful French teacher both for adults and kids. We have had her as an in-home teacher for both over the past few years during the school year. She is very patient with the kids and keeps it fun for them, and also is a great conversationalist with the adults. I can’t recommend her enough. She is also versatile enough to teach German as well.

Parlez-vous français? French was the first foreign language I learned, and it was definitely a gateway language. I loved learning every detail of the grammar, every rule, every inevitable exception. I took advanced courses at UCI as well as studied in a French university for a semester, so I have lots of materials for us to work with.

About Michelle
Hi! I'm Michelle, a world traveler/teacher who's here to help bring her experience and energy to students back home in California. I've taught various subjects such as test prep, English, history, and languages to students all over the world, such as China, France, and Ecuador. I've worked with students of all ages and love getting to know them to help figure out how they best learn.

I love learning languages in my spare time and practicing when I can. When I'm not looking a bit silly doing that, I'm usually reading, at a baseball game, hiking, or hanging out with friends. I keep active, making sure to run or climb a mountain when I can. However, it's equally as strong as my love for foods of all kinds.

I really look forward to getting to work with you and helping you with whatever I can!

Hey there! I'm Amanda! Let's work together on your goals towards learning French! Unlike everyone else listed here, I am not a language teacher, I am a language COACH. It's 2018; let's learn languages like it's the 21st century! As a PhD candidate at the University of Florida studying Linguistics, I have studied all the best ways to learn a language and would love to share my passion with you!

As your coach, I'll help you focus on your goals and hold you accountable for accomplishing them. I promote student agency and will help you to make your own choices about your own learning; this way each lesson fits your individual needs and differences. As your own language and success coach, we will not only work together to understand the target language vocabulary and grammar, but we will also delve into the metacognitive and self-regulatory skills necessary to study quickly and efficiently, feel comfortable speaking the language, and get ahead in other areas of your life as well!

...

About Amanda
Hi there! I'm Amanda!

Congratulations on starting/continuing your language journey in French! I would love to join you! I'm a PhD student at the University of Florida studying Linguistics with a specialization in Second Language Acquisition (aka the best ways to learn languages)!!! Different, from the other individuals listed here, I am not a language teacher, I am a language COACH. It's time to learn a language like it's the 21st century! Let's work together to reach your goals!

What is a language coach?

As a language coach, I enable students to focus on their goals and hold them accountable for accomplishing them. I promote student agency and allow students to make choices about their own learning; this way each lesson fits their individual needs and differences. As your own language and success coach, we will not only work t
ogether to understand the target language vocabulary and grammar, but we will also delve into the metacognitive and self-regulatory skills necessary to study quickly and efficiently, feel comfortable speaking the language, and get ahead in other areas of your life as well!

My mission for each lesson is to provide a language learning experience unique in its approach to incorporate strategy instruction including reducing foreign language anxiety, building agency, and developing self-regulated learning skills. My coaching objective is to help learners reach their second language goals through not only language teaching, but student empowerment as well. I aim to help students realize and build their own agency, resulting in a self-actualized, relaxed, and engaged learning environment. Through this one-of-a-kind coaching method, success is having my students end each tutoring session feeling positive, and eventually ending tutoring sessions all together knowing that they are competent, intelligible, and composed speakers of the target language.

I have been a language instructor and coach since 2009 teaching children English in France through the TAPIF program. I have taught/coached undergraduates French at both the Ohio University (where I earned my BA and MA in French) and the University of Florida (where I am earning my PhD in Linguistics). Further, I have taught English as a Second Language at the University of Florida as well as Santa Fe College.

As a researcher, I have focused my life's work and dissertation on the topic of lowering Foreign Language Anxiety in foreign language learners. Foreign Language Anxiety is often cited as the number 1 correlation to achievement in acquiring the target language. Do you get nervous when you attempt to speak the language that you've learned? Are you scared what others are going to think of you? Do you have perfectionist tendencies? Well, helping you manage Foreign Language Anxiety while learning French would be exactly my skill set!

While I am a seasoned, SLAT (Second Language Acquisition and Teaching) certified instructor and am able to teach at the university level, tutoring is my true passion. I began tutoring in 2008 at Ohio University and I have not stopped since. My youngest tutee was 4 years old and my oldest tutee, who is still working with me, is 72 years old. I can cater to all ages, language levels, individual differences, objectives and goals, attitudes, and motivation levels. Send me a message with any questions that you have, and we can chat and set some goals for your language learning journey.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you in any way possible in the world of French or ESL! Talk to you soon! :)

Students of French can expect to learn in a similar fashion to students of Spanish. They will learn grammar, vocab, and culture through fun and interesting ways. I have experience with French in a college classroom as well as study abroad in Paris in 2013.

About Haley
I am a former substitute teacher who has done tutoring for one year. I graduated Troy University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish. I have a passion for languages, and have become fluent in Spanish and French. I am also currently learning Portuguese, Italian, German, and Chinese. On top of that, I have a passion for helping others to learn, as my ultimate goal is to teach Spanish at the University level.

I have one year of prior tutor experience in Spanish. Beginning Spanish students can be expected to learn the basics of the language before moving on. Exceptions can be made for any prior experience the student may have in Spanish. I can help students understand grammar, find fun ways to remember vocabulary, and improve pronunciation. The student can also learn aspects of Hispanic culture, especially that of Mexico, Spain, and Costa R
ica, since I have studied abroad in Costa Rica.

I have been playing the clarinet since I was eleven years old. In high school I received a music scholarship for Troy University's school of music, where I was a member of their marching and concert band, and of clarinet choir. I have experience voluntarily tutoring younger students when I was in high school. Students can expect help with basics, technique, how to put feeling into a piece, and how to properly care for their clarinet.

I have taken French in college, however my best learning experience was studying abroad in Paris in 2013. After graduation I began to constantly learn more French so as not to lose any of it. Students of French can expect to learn the language in a similar to my Spanish students (see above).

I am strongly passionate about music and languages, and have been so for many years. One thing these two subjects have in common is the misconception that they are too difficult to learn. I will show my students just how fun and easy it can be to learn a new instrument or language.

Haley was the best tutor I have ever had! She made everything super convenient: from coming to my house, bringing flash cards, and being there early for our lesson! She actually broke down the subject to my understanding and made sure I understood it before she left! I would defiantly recommend her, she’s the best!
