I began studying ear training in high school, and have taken several semesters of college-level ear training. In addition, I have studied piano at an intermediate level. Ear training is an amazing tool for improving intonation on your instrument and interpreting music in general. I have the following resources at my disposal for use in ear training lessons:

- The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis (Clendinning and Marvin)

- The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis workbook (Clendinning and Marvin)

- The Musician's Guide to Aural Skills Sight-Singing book (Murphy, Phillips, Marvin, Clendinning)

- Materials and Techniques of Post-Tonal Music (Kostka and Santa)

- Grand piano (in my College Studio and can be used online)

- Yamaha electric piano (in my Home Studio and can be used online)

Wonderful teacher!! Ashley has a great teaching style and is super super nice!! I’ve been playing for 12 years and I’ve never enjoyed playing as much as I have since i started with ashley. highly recommend for all ages!!

Great start. I am a super-beginner and we are starting with the basics. Today was my first lesson. Ashley is patient, and knowledgeable for a start-up student like me. And she plays a mean fiddle. I asked for a demonstration— I gotta long road ahead but I am excited by the prospects of Ashley’s instruction.

I am so glad that I took lessons from Ashley! I had been playing for about a year and a half when I started my lessons in January of 2018. We had hour-long sessions once a week for about a year, but the time always felt too short! We usually learned about a song a week, sometimes more and sometimes less depending on how quickly I picked it up. Since I could already read sheet music, I mostly learned by ear, and Ashley did a wonderful job with slowing the songs down and helping me repeat them until I could play by memory. Now, I'm really glad I learned through ear training because it's an invaluable skill to have! I also really enjoyed playing harmony with her -- so cool. She always had songs hand-picked for me to learn, or, if there was a song that I really wanted to be able to play, she would help me with that one. Ashley is the best -- such a sweet, patient, and encouraging teacher! She even offered to have me play with her on stage! If you have the chance, take lessons from Ashley!!!

I specialize in beginner/intermediate level basics, with rock and blues genres specifically. I focus extensively on the topics of improvisation and on developing your personal voice on the instrument, along with solid, natural technique.

I believe in growing as a guitarist not just through technical proficiency, but also in overall musicianship. My approach to learning songs is not just being able to play a song, but to understand why it works, and how you can translate the things you hear into techniques and ideas you can utilize in your own songwriting.

About Rachel

I'm a guitarist based out of the Atlanta, GA area with 9+ years experience playing, teaching and performing music. My influences cover a wide spectrum - from The Beatles to Rush, from Eric Johnson to Molly Tuttle. I am currently taking classes myself with Berklee College of Music (jazz guitar),

My teaching style is aimed more toward children and early intermediates. I like to get kids and teens excited about music, teaching them how to read and technical playing, as well as all the possibilities with playing horn. We will walk through the basics of reading and playing, and I will play with them - so they can see and hear the fingering and tone. I also appreciate questions from students, and discussing the types of horns and discover their goals with music. I would tailor their lessons to focus on their goals however encourage well-rounded learning for them to succeed in any aspect of playing.

About Emily

I've been playing French horn for 28 years, professionally for 11 years, teaching for 14. I have played in orchestras, chamber ensembles, concert bands and mixed ensembles, holding a wide range of positions ranging from principal to 3rd chair. I currently work as a studio musician, recording profes

I just had an excellent first lesson with Emily! I've never been very patient or disciplined with music lessons in the past, but Emily was so laid back yet focused that at the end of our hour I was kind of shocked at how much I'd actually accomplished. It hadn't felt like the heavy drudgery I hated with lessons as a kid. She managed to keep things feeling casual and playful despite keeping me on track. I'm impressed. I'm playing horn! High recommends for Ms. J!!

We couldn't be happier with Sergei. My 14 year old daughter has had an such a good experience with him over the past year and a half. She progressed well from day one. Plus he is easy going and a great personality for a teenager. I would highly recommend him as a teacher! Thanks Sergei for helping her to have such comfort with the guitar!
