Though "fiddle" and "violin" are the same instrument, the difference in title refer to two different styles of playing. Fiddle music focuses on country, bluegrass and Irish or Celtic music.

Beginners typically take 60 minute classes once per week at a recurring time. Young children typically take half hour classes and older children, adult musicians and those on a budget typically take 45 minute classes. The most common lesson length to start with is 60 minutes, as the teacher will need to tune your instrument and help you get set up. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week when a concert is coming up, to catch up from a vacation or if they just want to make faster progress.

In class, you will learn new techniques, receive guidance on how to achieve the best sound possible and learn songs that you like and that interest you. You are expected to take this guidance and practice it thoroughly at home until you feel comfortable with it, so that when you are in class ...

About Antoinette
Finding an schooled violinist and finding a good violin teacher are two very different things. When I see other teacher's profiles, they boast of the years of training they had. Anyone can learn and play, but it takes a love of teaching to really make a difference in someone's life.

PATIENCE
When you have a love of teaching, you have a seemingly endless resource of patience. This is because what the student sees as "patient" is really just a small step in the educational process. It is a fraction of time just before a correction. When you have something new to teach, whether it is a new technique, or a correction of something being done improperly, and you know exactly how to break it down so it is understandable and accomplishable, you know it is always a short matter of time before the student gets it. And by short, I mean a matter
of seconds, or minutes.

FRIENDLINESS
I respect others and what they feel and have to say. I treat others as I would want to be treated and lessons are always a pleasure to my students, because it is a pleasure for me to teach them.

EXPERIENCE
I have been playing for over 26 years. I have played with a multitude of local orchestras and bands and have done countless studio recording sessions and live shows. All of this experience comes through in my teaching either directly (when it comes time for you to perform) or incrementally.

When you are learning, there is a vast sea of information. Not all of that knowledge is equal in importance. It is incredibly important to be able to distinguish what is important and what is not very important. All of my real-life experience, and continuing experience reveals itself in the form of ensuring my students know what is truly important.

Lest you get the idea that I am a wishy-washy, undemanding teacher, I can assure you this is not the case. Lessons are fun, but that is because they are productive. You will walk away being able to do something, and that requires hard work, and practice.

WHAT I EXPECT FROM MY STUDENTS
Practice.
Practice.
Practice.
And a winning attitude.

I can even work with you if you don't have a winning attitude, but it makes it more fun when you do!

HOW FAST CAN I EXPECT RESULTS?
Some students who were musicians previously leave the first lesson being able to play their first song. Most students however, who have never played an instrument before, can expect to be comfortable bowing (a huge part of the process - half the sound!) within the first few weeks, and will then move on to learning songs. We will be learning sheet music as well, on a very, very easy gradient. After the first couple months, I expect you to tell me which song it is you might like to learn most so that we can start working on it.

RENTALS
I rent out violins of all sizes.
I sell the book that I teach out of (or you can obtain it online or from Sam Ash).

If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them. You can use the contact button on this website and I will gladly answer you in return.

Antoinette is, by far, the best music instructor that I have ever hired. Music has always been a part of my life. As a child, I took piano lessons for years and continued on and off through college. As a complete novice to the violin, I was nervous to begin such a challenging instrument as an adult hobby. Antoinette is encouraging, intelligent and incredibly skilled. Her calm demeanor and patience is vital to one's success. She focuses on the building blocks to a successful technique with ease. I am incredibly grateful to Antoinette for reminding me of how enjoyable music can be. I look forward to our weekly sessions around my busy work schedule. Her location is conveniently located within walking distance from the subway in NYC.

I took violin lessons for a year with an instructor I found through a different organization (not TakeLessons)--and I learned more in one hour with Antoinette than I learned in 30 lessons with that other teacher. In just one lesson, I can see that Antoinette is friendly, smart, encouraging, knows her stuff--and knows how to teach (which not every good player can do). I'm an adult, but I bet she'd be just as great with a student of any age.

I've played guitar since I was only eight years old (over 20 years!) in many different bands, styles, and genres. I played in a traditional Irish ensemble when I was in college and have since picked up banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, and bodhran (Irish hand drum). I've also helped teach group violin classes in music programs in Orlando, FL and NYC. I love playing and teaching bluegrass music, it's a special challenge both for me and the students!

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

For the last year I have been taking piano, viola and violin lessons online with DeAndre. He is a natural, insightful teacher and I look forward to years of lessons with him. I would absolutely recommend him.

I'm a beginner with the violin and viola and an intermediate pianist. I was doubtful at first that I would be able to learn through a video chat. I'm amazed at the detail DeAndre can pick up just by watching a video chat. There have been many times when we just did the lesson over the phone with no video and he was able to tell that my fingering hand was in the wrong position or I was holding the bow wrong just by listening over the phone!

On and off through my life I've taken piano and viola lessons (I'm 46) and was never able to get very far. I found my teachers discouraged me in many ways without trying to. DeAndre has been fantastic. With his instruction I've been able to do things I never thought I would ever be able to do. He's excellent at giving feedback about the things I'm doing wrong but in a way that keeps me positive and makes me aware of the things I'm doing well and the things I need to improve.

DeAndre is absolutely worth the time and money.

I would highly recommend Krisztina. She truly likes teaching violin. She goes beyond the call of duty. For example, she sends emails with her or other musician videos for practice at home, works over the allotted time if needed and if she is able to, sends texts and responds promptly.
My daughter was beginning to say she was getting less interested in violin and before I could say anything, Krisztina made my daughter excited about it again with new things to learn.
There is nothing negative to say. She is an excellent teacher.

I absolutely love playing Celtic fiddle style! It is such a fun and energetic way of playing the violin that students respond really well to. I teach fiddle mostly by ear but also teach using the Craig Duncan fiddle method and the O'Connor method for those more comfortable reading music.

I love meeting new students and personalizing their music lessons! Each student learns a little differently and I tailor lessons to you. I keep lessons motivating and inspiring, and I am very methodical in teaching the foundations for every student to succeed. I also offer a unique opportunity for students to participate in ensembles with other students in my home studio!

About Sarah
Sarah A. is an experienced teacher of violin/fiddle and viola. She has taught all ages and many styles. Performing professionally since 2015, Sarah has played in classical ensembles for weddings and events, as well as in Celtic music groups and in an electric rock string ensemble called Electria.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from Eastern Kentucky University. She is a Governor's School for the Arts graduate, an Orchestra Merit Award recipient, and held the principal violist position in the EKU Symphony Orchestra. Sarah was elected president of the EKU American String Teachers' Association chapter in 2013-2014 and traveled to Italy to study music in the summer of 2015. She was also honored to play in many faculty string ensembles during her college years.

Sarah has studied Irish fiddle music under mas
ters such as Tommy Peoples and Kevin McKee. From a young age, she attended classes at many Irish music festivals in the U.S. and even traveled to Ireland for four weeks to learn more. Her experience with pop/rock styles began in college when she made string arrangements out of popular songs on the radio. She then took this love for playing popular music when she began performing with Electria.

Sarah began teaching after graduating from EKU and has taught private and group lessons. Along with playing and performing music, she found a love for teaching when she began her studio! Sarah even co-founded a group strings program in Georgetown, KY, an area underserved in strings music education. Sarah finds it exceptionally important to start beginners with strong technical skills, providing a good foundation for their playing. She then introduces more advanced techniques to allow for more musicality and maturity in playing. Students studying with Sarah have been featured soloists in their school orchestras, and have received Honors Orchestra and All-State orchestra positions. She keeps lessons inspiring and encouraging, bringing the joy of playing music to her students!

Want to learn how to play the fiddle and have some fun?!
My name is Oceana I am from Vancouver, Canada. I have been playing the fiddle for 23 years (since I was three years old). I believe that having a passion or hobby in your life especially introduced at a young age helps teach you how to reach goals, be creative, learn discipline and most importantly brings happiness! Music is a great way to express yourself and fiddling is all about fun and dancing!

I will teach you how to sing with your instrument and dance with your heart. It’s never too early or too late to start fiddlin! I teach all ages, from 3 to 103! Wether you have a classical background or you’ve never played before, or maybe you want your child to be a music prodigy, I’ll jump on your level and we will learn and have some fun together! I use a combination of sheet music and ear training-you will learn how to play by ear and also enough music theory to play with your favorite band. Practice makes perfect, but even if ...

About Oceana
I began my music studies at the age of 3, as soon as I could hold a tiny 1/8th size fiddle my mom put me in lessons. I have taken fiddle/violin lessons from Calvin Cairns, Daniel Lapp, Carlisle Wilson, Steven DeVries and Garth Wilson in Victoria, BC. Glenn Graham and Jennifer Roland in Cape Breton, and Jason Anick, and Darol Anger in Boston.
I have played in various groups including Daniel Lapp’s BC Fiddle Orchestra, Calvin Cairns Conservatory Fiddlers and a Celtic band called Jane’s Way. We played at music and performing arts festivals, pubs, and square dances around Vancouver Island for 10 years. I studied Irish and Scottish fiddle music in Cape Breton for 1 year and in Dublin, Ireland for 1 month.
I started my teaching career in 2009 at a music studio called Duncan Music. I fell in love with teaching and decided to further pursue m
y music career at Berklee College of Music in Boston. There I studied Performance and Music Business while also teaching music lessons on the side. Music has brought me here to LA where I continue to inspire people to love and learn the joy and power of music.

What’s the difference between a fiddle and a violin?!
The most commonly asked question with the simplest answer- fiddling is more fun! It's the exact same instrument, played with a more up beat casual feel. Classical violin is great for learning technique, but when you want to let loose and get your toes tapping while still learning fast precision and technique, come play with me!
