I had to attend a buddy's Wedding. I'm in my fifties and never been a good dancer. When I attended Wedding receptions two to three decades ago, I would manage to get through the dancing, sort of. This time, however, there was no getting around it. I would have to know how to dance because the woman that was accompanying me to the Wedding and reception was a Dance minor in College! I had a month to get it together so I contacted Michelle through Take Lessons.

Michelle is a patient knowledgeable teacher. She started me with basic dancing steps to “Panda Bear - Doin' it Right .” The basic dance steps that Michelle taught me can be used for virtually all Rock/Disco/Techno music that you will encounter. The tempos might vary, but the steps remain the same. When I became more proficient Michelle taught me line dances such as the “Macarena” and the “Cha Cha Slide.”

When I attended the Wedding reception with the Dance minor, I was confident and comfortable on the Dance floor thanks to Michelle!

Highly Recommended.

I will cater to what each individual needs, working with dance material you already know teach you choreography to achieve the following:

-provide personalized feedback to help improve technical and artistic growth.

- give tools to improve and deepen your understanding of technique

- explain how to connect your expressiveness with your technique

My style is very supportive and direct. I believe that to improve as a dancer you need personal feedback and hard work. I am very passionate about sharing what I know to help other dancers reach their goals.

About Amanda
I currently dance with the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company and on faculty teaching at the Paul Taylor School. While maintaining a professional dance career in New York City, I have been passionate about teaching dance for the past 9 years.

I have taught Master Classes and Intensive Workshops in the Paul Taylor style throughout the nation, as well as teaching Vaganova Ballet at the Joffrey Ballet School. I have taught in numerous public schools through teaching residencies with Rioult Dance Company and Education In Dance. I believe these experiences have taught me how to assess individuals quickly and provide clear feedback in a positive and supportive way.

My teaching style is energetic, and focused on the personal experience each dancer is having, while giving direct and clear feedback. My goal is to help students reach their artistic
potential in their dancing by helping to combine technique with lyricism, rhythmic dynamics and emotive qualities.

Private lessons can be catered toward each individual. Either for an upcoming audition, feedback on solo or ensemble choreography, to help personalize technical corrections and to help push technique to a higher level, or for non dancers to help understand movement and feel comfortable in a beginning class.

Dancing since the age of 3, I'd love to spark the passion of dance in anyone that's interested! With a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a concentration in Ballet Pedagogy (the art or science of teaching) this is what I've trained to do.

I specialize in Ballet, Modern and Jazz ages 5-18 beginner to advanced students. I focus on strong foundations in technique and musicality. I am also comfortable choreographing solo work for auditions.

About Sara
Hello! I'm Sara!

I started dancing at the age of 3. I am well versed in Ballet, Modern and Jazz. I attended Joffrey San Antonio (2004) and Paul Taylor New York (2010) intensives.

While in high school I taught Ballet, Jazz, Pre-Pointe and Pointe classes to dancers age 3-14.

In 2011 I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet Pedagogy (which is the art or science of teaching).

Since moving to NYC 5 years ago I have been focused on performing with such dance companies as Exit 12 Dance Company (2011-2012) and Community Dance Project (2013-2014). While not dancing with specific companies I have choreographed and danced in two music videos.

I can't express my love for teaching enough! To know that I could help spark the passion of dance in a young person is extremely inspiring.

Please inc
lude your area and availability in your messages!

I would prefer to teach students with professional or aerobic goals. Social dancing is not one of my subjects.

I am a trained educator, and this makes me unique among most people offering dance classes! Many former dance stars go into teaching to make money without any training in HOW to teach. But I am the best of both worlds - high-level training, a professional career under my belt, combined with education in a specific curriculum and teaching techniques. Additionally, I have 10 years of teaching experience. All of this makes me an ideal teacher for adult beginners, or any student who might be getting into dance for the first time, wants to learn dance at a high level, but who also wants to have fun! Students in my class can expect a warm-up, skill, strength, and flexibility building exercises, an opportunity to learn choreography, and a cool down, all within the context of a safe, anatomically correct environment. I teach ballet, contemporary, and modern dance and I can't wait to see you in the studio!

About Alexandra
Alexandra (Rose) Cook, founder and Artistic Director of WorkHorse Dance Project, is a choreographer based in Brooklyn, NY. Additionally, she works as the Community Programs Director with Mark Morris Dance Group and a Teaching Artist for The School at the Mark Morris Dance Center. Holding a B.A. in Dance and Economics from Denison University, her experience in the field includes performance, education, dance creation, and administrative work. Alexandra has performed as a member of Fusionworks Modern Dance Company (RI), the State Ballet of Rhode Island, and as a freelance artist with ACW Dances in Arlington, VA. During that time, she had the opportunity to dance the works of Abigail Wallace, Stafford C. Berry Jr., Sandra Mathern-Smith, Keith Thompson, Amalia Schelhorn, Molly Shanahan, Terry Creach, Mark Harootian, and Deb Meunier. In 2016,
she completed a choreography mentorship with Doug Varone whereby her choreography was shown at Gibney. Her work has also been presented by Dixon Place, SharedSpace at the Mark Morris Dance Center, the idance festival 2014 in Hong Kong, Fusionworks, Center for Performance Research NYC, Triskelion Arts WAXworks, and at multiple schools in the Northeast United States.
