At the age of 4 I began producing musicals in my basement with my sister. This progressed to acting classes, piano lessons, and eventually the school musical in sixth grade. I began taking voice lessons when I was in eighth grade and have never looked back. Through high school, I focused on both classical and musical theatre genres, having leads in high school and community musicals and operettas. While attending the University of Delaware for my Bachelor of Music, I majored in Applied Music: Voice and had the privilege of performing lead roles in Sweeney Todd, The Pirates of Penzance, The Marriage of Figaro, and Die Fledermaus. In addition, I performed two recitals. I was also fortunate enough to be a member of the University of Delaware Chorale, traveling to both China and Spain for tours and competitions. I then attended UD for my Mast
er of Music in Vocal Performance where I maintained a full studio of undergraduate voice minors as a Graduate Teaching assistant.

I took my first pedagogy class at UD and began teaching voice lessons at the Community Music School during my junior year. My experience as a teaching assistant shaped me into the teacher that I am today. I love teaching and helping students reach goals! With my thorough pedagogical training and varied performance experience, I have a great deal to offer my students.

During my time with you, I strive to assist you in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with your singing. No matter what your goals are - All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping you reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.

I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on your interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and will work on an array of genres with you including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. We will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once you can perform a song from memory.

Words are what separate the voice from any other instrument. Therefore, I will work with you on ways to examine the poetry and lyrics of each song in order to portray the message of the words.

Megan was the best voice teacher I've had. She was very personable and friendly and more importantly, she was very supportive of my goals. She really emphasized bringing out the 'free' voice as opposed to just molding it towards a particular style, which helped boost my confidence. Highly recommended!

Meg creates a very welcoming and nurturing environment where students feel safe to grow and learn.

Meg is a wonderful teacher who I would recommend to anybody. One of the things I loved about her was how patient she was with me, even when I became frustrated with myself. She creates an open and warm environment where I felt free to make mistakes and explore my voice, but would always have learned something new at the end of each lesson.

New York-based pianist Nicole Brancato is a stimulating and adventurous performer, composer, and teacher. As an award-winning young artist, she has performed throughout America and Italy, appearing in such venues as Lincoln Center, the Guggenheim, and the 92Y, as well as the “underground” and unusual performance spaces in New York City.

Brancato is a champion of creative and conceptual performance. She participated in the Guggenheim’s marathon performance of Satie’s Vexations along with Christian Wolff, Philip Corner, David Del Tredici, and Joshua Rifkin, all four of whom performed in John Cage’s 1963 legendary premiere of the work. This unique 19-hour concert was featured in The New York Times and Art News. On the international network Rai Italia, Brancato gave an intimate televised concert and interview for the series “L’altra I
talia” in which she explored her roots and her love for New York’s exhilarating music scene. Her modern big band project “The Titanics,” for which she acted as pianist and lead arranger, was deemed “brilliant” by New York Magazine and was featured multiple times in The New Yorker and Time Out New York.

With her passion for programming both traditional and avant-garde music in thought-provoking ways, Brancato receives great acclaim from audiences: “I am still reeling from Nicole’s recital,” said a Metropolitan Opera Guild board member, “The way she played … will stay with me forever.” In addition to her solo career, she is a key member of two unconventional chamber ensembles: Audible Abstraction - a bold new music trio - and 2Squared - a dynamic piano duo. In all of her endeavors, Brancato creates a connective, intellectual, and provocative experience for her audiences.

Brancato won multiple competitions during her career, most recently winning the Hunter Symphony’s Aria and Concerto competition with Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G. She holds an M.A. in piano performance from Hunter College in New York City and a B.M. in piano performance from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. She graduated summa cum laude from both institutions and was awarded the Benno Lee Prize at Hunter for an outstanding Master’s Recital. She is a member of the American College of Musicians’ Piano Guild and has studied with the likes of Geoffrey Burleson and William Wolfram. She has over 10 years of teaching experience, specializing in piano, composing and arranging, and music theory.

She adapts lessons to match your skill level, nurtures proper and useful technique (while pinpointing and discouraging bad habits early on), and encourages you the whole way through. Originally from Massachusetts, I have been teaching children and adults flute for over 20 years. I teach from the very beginner student to the very advanced and I have additional training in the Suzuki Method which is especially helpful for beginning young children. I am primarily a classical flute teacher with extensive experience playing in various classical music settings.

My approach is friendly and patient. As I get to know my students, I can better guide them to accomplish the goal of learning flute but, in the process, I never lose sight o the person whom I am teaching. It has to be a pleasant experience as well as challenging. I have learned throughout the years when to relax my expectations of perfection and when to intensify them. I am looking for a good attitude in my students. My students come to me trying their best during
the lesson time and also making time in their schedules to practice. Every student is different and has different goals. I consider the differences while I am teaching them. My younger students don't usually know how serious they are about the instrument. For them especially, it has to be fun and interesting. I make every effort to combine my students in small chamber music groups for recitals. Nearly all of my students participate in regular studio recitals with a pianist provided to accompany them.

Our son attended a neighborhood concert and was struck with the idea that he’d like to learn to play the flute. We knew absolutely nothing about flutes at that time, but we consider ourselves so, so fortunate that Frannie came to us by recommendation.

Frannie is fun and has a great sense of humor. She is endlessly patient and relaxed, but also firm when she needs to be. She always keeps the music interesting for him – for example, after a period of working hard on the pieces in the Suzuki Method repertoire, she encourages him to mix it up and play some things just for fun, like the popular themes to Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Our son, now 9, has been studying with Frannie for almost a year now, and I cannot believe how much he has grown and improved in such a short amount of time. Frannie inspires him to play his very best; he works hard to emulate her gorgeous tone. He absolutely loves his weekly lessons, he looks forward to her student recitals, and he is motivated to practice every day.

It is a beautiful thing to watch your child fall in love with making music, and we credit this to Frannie. She has our highest recommendation.

I took lessons with Frannie for more than ten years, starting at age 4 in an introduction to music class at the Brooklyn Music School. Through her I found not just a great love for music but a lens through which I discovered and learned about the world. With Frannie, once a week for nearly my entire childhood, I would learn to practice and work at a piece or phrase, or to interpret and have and opinion on music I played, or to play like I mean every note, and so on endlessly. Those skills were some of the earliest and most important lessons I had about how to live and enjoy my life, and art, and how to work hard, and care about what I do for my own sake and no one else's. And I don't believe just any teacher could have done that for me. Since moving on I have often felt a different excitement and deep understanding of music than many of the peers I met who have spent far more time than me studying music.

I'm still a musician. I graduated recently from Bard College with a degree in music and have since played onstage in a very successful off-broadway musical. I've played in many orchestras including with graduate & conservatory students at Bard, with the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra, and at LaGuardia High School (formerly Music & Art). I have moved on to other instruments, and forms of music, but I credit Frances not just for showing me how much I love music but for teaching me in many ways how to enjoy and get what I want from life. I can't recommend her enough.

My daughter Coco studied with Frances for a number of years. Without question Francis was the best music teacher Coco ever had, and she's had quite a few.
Francis is generous, creative, and inspiring to work with, she has the perfect balance of qualities that a music student needs. She's highly motivating and makes demands of her students which stretch them to achieve their full potential, yet she never pushes past their limits; Coco never felt stressed by her practice but always wanted to fulfill the expectation of excellence which Francis instilled in her. I would not be the person I am today if music wasn't the focal point in my life as it is. Not only do I absolutely love performing and studying music myself, but I adore teaching as well. Part of the musical experience is taking what you hear and what you learn from others and building on it to create your own musical contributions. I take the gifts other teachers and musicians have given me very seriously and subsequently feel the great importance of imparting my knowledge unto others.

Whether you want to be a professional, or just be competent enough to enjoy yourself, we all practice, study technique and gain knowledge about music with really only one goal in mind: To have all the tools necessary to express ourselves adeptly through music. All the technique in the world will not make you a great musician. Similarly, you can be extre
mely creative and knowledgeable, but if you don't have the technique and vocabulary needed to express your ideas, you will find yourself very limited and suppressed musically.

My philosophy about teaching follows that I am here to provide you with those tools in a fun, exciting way. When I say "tools" I mean the whole toolbox. This includes giving you the technique, correcting bad habits, providing listening material, finding holes in your playing and much more. A good music teacher must be more than an instructor, but a mentor and an inspirational guide. My best teachers were the ones who could cultivate my playing not just through the physical aspects but ESPECIALLY through the cerebral. We ALL need encouragement and inspiration to get the best out of our natural talent. I love to encourage my students to do their best. -I am here for you.

I would not teach if I wasn't very interested in the progress of my students. I want you to be the biggest, baddest, awe-inspiring drummer/percussionist possible. I want to ultimately end up at your shows and concerts and be able to say "That's MY student." You can always be guaranteed that when studying with me everything I assign has precisely that goal in mind.

-Strict or Laid Back?

Many people might ask if I'm strict, or laid back. My response is that I am excited and driven to help you reach success. I will never scold you because that sort of practice has no place in teaching. I also understand that learning isn't just a straight upwards incline of progression. We're all humans. Sometimes we progress astronomically in a short period of time and sometimes we have to fight hard to nail something. Sometimes we have a lot of time to practice, and sometimes we simply don't. My job is to make the most out of every situation and help you learn no matter what. That being said, I will still hound you to practice as much as healthily possible!

-What do you want out of music?

Probably the most important question I will undoubtedly ask you upon meeting you is why you are taking lessons. There is no way to formulate a tailored lesson plan if I don't know what it is you're working towards.

-Expected Material

Like I said, I can't tell you very specifically what your lesson plan will be, but I CAN give you examples of what I almost always assign. Individually written out exercises, exercises from books, assigned reading/listening, song covers, chart writing/reading, improvisational exercises, rudiment study, warm-up routines, among others.

-Don't be Afraid to Make Mistakes

Mistakes are part of the learning process! If you aren't making mistakes then I'm doing something wrong. Never be afraid to make mistakes.

-You Get What You Give

I promise I'll be there for you. I'll be there to give you the material and show you the path, but you're going to have to be there for yourself as well. The more prepared you are for our lessons, the more you will grow from the time we spend together.

Mastering an instrument takes time and effort both by student and teacher. The sooner we get started the sooner you get on that path. I'm ready whenever you are.

Very informative, we went over terminology, how important it is to have the proper sticks and the correct way to hold them. Reading the music and playing the proper beat. We did a lot for 1 lesson, my daughter loved it.

Flexible teaching methods!

Asaf is just brilliant. During the first session, my son was very distracted by the other things in the music room ie lights, instruments etc but Asaf managed to engage him by being extremely flexible in his teaching ie he is not wedded to any order and has a lesson plan in mind but goes with the flow and the interest of the child - this ensures that all that was intended on being covered is, and as a result of the flexibility, my son just loves these drum lesson and Asaf. Asaf makes him focus and has built a great teacher/student relationship in only 3 session. I would highly recommend Asaf.

From the age of 6, I received lessons in piano and music theory / ear training at the Brooklyn College Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts.  In the early 1990's, hearing legendary musicians on former radio station 104 WNCN made an indelible impression on me and inspired a long-term passion.  My sensibility for jazz and popular music also developed during this period, since 101.9, the "smooth jazz" station, was also listened to at home.  I accompanied the Stuyvesant High School choir until my graduation in 2000.   In January of that year, I performed the third movement of Sergei Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto with the school's symphony orchestra.  The then-president of the Stuyvesant Parents Association praised the "extraordinary performance" in an issue of the PA newsletter.  Starting in August 2000, I attended Columbia Univer
sity where I continued my piano lessons as a student in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.  Wishing to fully commit myself to music through the piano, I transferred to Manhattan School of Music in September 2002. There, I studied classical piano performance with Donn-Alexander Feder (interesting name, no?) and Arkady Aronov. 

I have taught beginner and intermediate level private piano lessons to adults and children since January 2009.  Throughout January 2010, I accompanied a student production of the musical _You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown_ at The Women's Leadership School of Astoria, Queens.   In May of that year, I worked with Jermaine Lewis on a concert of his musical, _Spiritual Heritage_, staged at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Bronx.  These collaborations developed my feel for popular music (including improvisation,) which I enjoy conveying to students who prefer to learn piano through that style.  My appreciation of contemporary music has also benefited through my activities as music transcriber (someone who notates music on paper or computer by ear) for the lead singer of 3D2, a contemporary pop group that has performed at Madison Square Garden as well as international venues.

I adapt my teaching to how you learn and your aspirations, whether the direct goal is to delve into the world of piano playing, an art that nurtures emotional awareness and self-discipline, channel your favorite artists from the keys, or learn to listen inwardly - to your own music. I am a patient teacher who believes that you can succeed when the instructor is passionate about the subject (I am!) New musical and technical concepts are best introduced when you are ready to understand them.  Moreover, music and technique are two integrated aspects of the same picture - even when practicing a passage to develop efficiency of the physical gesture required, music is still being created!

Once I have gauged the development of your playing (from absolute beginner to anything beyond,) we would work on pieces and techniques that gradually take you to the next "stage of development."  I use quotation marks because musical growth is really a continuous process with no actual discreet stages. "Level" is merely an idea that helps teachers hone the content and delivery of their instruction.  In addition, I am flexible when it comes to following the sequence of pieces in repertoire guides.  In the order they appear, they don't always support the student's growth.  Lessons include theory concepts as a way to aid your aural understanding.  I can locate pieces of your choosing, and, if helpful, teach them in a more manageable (but still musically interesting) format.  Learning preferred music by ear is also a possibility.

I encourage regular practicing each week, while helping you strive for a balance between reviewing what was covered from one lesson to the next and your other important commitments.  In this manner, I hope to respect both the lesson time and you as a whole person.

I am actively experienced guiding beginner level to late intermediate students. I will guide you through the most sensible steps (for you) to cultivate agility at the piano, your ear and its discerning power, and unblocked musical expression. Connecting to your passion is one of the keys to a healthy and low-pressure learning experience. Our educational system would be better off if more practitioners of the art of teaching knew how to respond to the way our brains and minds learn naturally and efficiently - not by negative stress, like anxiety over the quality of a result, but through kind encouragement, patience, and the opportunity for open communication between student and teacher.

In teaching and performance, I have absorbed styles from classical, popular, and Broadway music. A vast repertoire is available for students at various places in their development. My interest in improvisation, and an ear sensitive to nuance have enhanced my feel for pop styles. I love music with a message that begs to be encountered, uplifting or not so uplifting - as long as it expresses anything essential from the heart of our common humanity. My experience as a teacher and pianist has shown me the scope of music that fits this description, covering at least jazz, classical, contemporary pop, r&b, and world music. For example, a current student worked with me on _Sweet Dreams_ by Beyonce, and _Together Again_ by Jackson, both which imparted looseness and rhythmic discernment to his playing. I've alternated our exploration of Top-40 songs with Bach 4-part chorales, which build his sense of fingering and harmonic motion.

Alessandro is a great teacher and very thorough. He sincerely loves music and is very well rounded in his appreciation. He is not only a master pianist, but also a vocal coach and well versed organist. I myself went to four years of music school and can still learn so much from this Manhattan school of music alumni. I play live constantly and I use Alessandro to fine my set and craft. I plan on studying with Alessandro for many years to come. Highly recommended. Specifically i asked him to help with fingering, which he has a masters approach along with sight reading and rhythm.

A wonderful, knowledgeable and above all patient teacher

I would wholeheartedly recommend Alessandro to any adult beginner student like myself without a doubt. He is so patient with his students, some times I think I would have killed myself if I were the teacher with all the mistakes and the lack of preparation but he is always encouraging, coming up with practice advise and tips and tricks that only the masters know. He is very knowledgeable, me being a physicist always throwing at him all shorts of odd questions about the structure of music and he always has good answers. Most teachers rarely know these details and they don't care to spend the time researching but due to his years of musical studies he knows it all. He is also very flexible, during our lessons my interest has shifted from pure piano lessons to music theory and the study of harmony. Alessandro devised a study plan and he prepared lectures starting from scratch. He is very polite and accommodating to my demanding schedule and that has worked great for me. I really recommend Alessandro to any adults who want to start learning music, it is never too late, trust me, as long as you choose the right teacher!

I'm a gigging musician and teacher who graduated from Oberlin College in May 2015 with a degree in Musical Studies and Physics. I was on the Division III tennis team there for two years as well. I pride myself on patience and empathy no matter what I teach, whether it feeling the pulse of a complicated drum groove or solving a challenging physics word problem. For music lessons, I strive to bring in a context of genre fluidity and history, so that a student knows where and what to explore on their own even when I am not in the room to show them. Overall, my teaching is all about inspiring students to do well and make their strengths work for them, rather than dryly coming up with the "right answer" or playing a tune the "right way" to get from point A to point B.

I am a working bassist in NYC. I am currently teaching students ranging from beginner to professional. I teach at a middle school on the Upper Westside of Manhattan and have had a lot of success with teenage bassists. I also have older advanced students who I help in learning a different way of playing.
As last year’s winner of the Ron Carter Bass Competition and the NEA Future Jazz Master Award, I know how to win major competitions. I also can help you get the college scholarship you are aiming for.
I am able to teach in my apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, your home or on-line.

I was amazed how much I learned in just a few online lessons. Cole gave me a lot to work on and he knew exactly how to show me what was lacking in my playing. Man, this dude can play... and teach! Very organized and very eager to help you get better.

Monmouth county based Educator, Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist, Producer, born with a record needle in his head. Vic has spent the past 30 years performing, writing teaching and recording through much of the Tri State area. Original and Cover Bands, solo and recording sessions. Blues , Jazz , Americana, Country , Rock & Pop. Along the way he has opened for a few of his heroes. Currently supporting his 9th, 10th and 11th CD, Old News Borrowed Blues Volume 1-3. The 3 volume set is a retrospective of acoustic band versions of some of his older material, new songs, covers and classic electric blues. Vic and the band has been performing to large crowds at such venues as The Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, Crossroads, Pianos NYC, The State Theater, Paramount- Asbury & NY/NJ Festivals.

Vic is a multi talented musician. He is able to translate musical skills and techniques to the students learning style and level. He has an easy going, warm yet direct manner. And when you go for a lesson he will have a different guitar every time! Vic is one of the best guitar teachers I’ve had.

Vic makes learning easy and fun. I’ve always felt intimidated to learn the guitar, but he’s very approachable and never makes me feel insecure or uncomfortable. I have learned so much, and I have even played in front of people, which is something I never thought I’d do!

LOVE Vic! He's a great teacher. He gives each student a well planned lesson that is specific for that individual. He wants his students to succeed. Hello! My name is Diana and I am an accomplished classical guitarist and pianist living in Brooklyn, New York. My experience has been established through a decade of private instruction under renown classical guitarist Dr. Lynn McGrath and pianist Stephen Montoya. I studied music, theory, and foreign language at the University of New Mexico and studied classical guitar at the North Carolina School for the Arts as one of the youngest students admitted at the age of 17. As a high school student I participated and competed in festivals across the U.S. including the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) and with masterclass instruction from renowned guitarists and composers, David Russell and Ana Vidovic. Within 10 years of dedicated study, I have been honored with awards of excellence from the National Honors Society of Guitar and recognized f
