I have extensive training in improvisational acting from East Carolina University in North Carolina and I've been teaching acting students since 2007. Students learn quick thinking, free movement, and artistic expression through acting exercises and games.
About Heather M.
More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor.
I'm currently available to teach lessons in my own St. Augustine home studio and online around the globe.
I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship. I studied classical music there, grateful to have been taught by the likes of tenor Thomas Faracco, and renowned voice scientist and pedagogue, Dr. Scott McCoy.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College a
nd performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life's work in 2003 when I began teaching music.
I've taught hundreds of different students since 2003 with great success, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.
I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.
My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals, including lead roles in Limelight Theater and Curtis Camp productions. When a student comes to me in need of voice coaching, my job is to get to the root of mental blocks, to reveal why and how she's not singing at her optimum.
Before I received formal training at a conservatory, I learned piano on my own, and both have prepared me to teach almost anyone, with any experience, how to play.
The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.
My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic folk rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. As a lifelong learner, I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2014.
In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.
Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, with an emphasis on stage acting and Meisner technique, as well as monologue and audition coaching.
Currently, I have only online availability for guitar students. Students under the age of twelve will use the Alfred Guitar Book for Kids. All other students will start with the Hal Leonard Guitar Method.
Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.
Ms. Heather tells you everything what you did well or where to improve. Also her instruction is really clear and simple to understand. My first language is not even English then I can understand her well.
A great teacher you deserve to have :D!!

This is time to challenge ourselves. Lets learn how our bodies move and how to improvise with our dance.
Meet your dance instructor. I have my bachelors degree from Chapman University in Theatre & Dance. My training includes Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Folk Dance, Dance History, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, Improv, and Kinesiology, among other dance-related subjects.
I grew up in a small Illinois town. Lessons were few and far between, so I would copy dancing off of movies and videos in order to perform at local dances, or for other community events. As a youth, I took country line dancing classes. Always drawn to anything involving dance and movement, I auditioned and performed with a Disney Showcase Troupe. By high school, I was choreographing for the Show Choir, as well as, performing in theatrical productions, including the musical “The Wizard of Oz”.
Before graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Theatre & Danc
e from Chapman University in Orange, California, I continued my study of many dance styles & techniques such as: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Dunham Technique, yoga/stretch, Dance Business & History. From 1996-2001 I performed a variety of dancing and singing roles in showcases and events such as “American Celebration” and “The Story of Rock n’ Roll”. While studying at Chapman, I accepted a position as historian, and eventually, vice president of the performing arts society (PASC).
When I wasn’t onstage, I could be found backstage working lights, sound, costuming, or stage management. I searched out other educational opportunities at Cypress College and the Taggart International School where I studied West African dance and Russian Ballet Technique. After performing a liturgical dance performance for my graduation ceremony, I toured the United States and a portion of Canada, researching dance around the world. This eventually led me to Jacmel, Haiti, where I studied cultural and social dances of the local people. After that I took up Bellydance and studied folk dancing in Chicago, Illinois.
Since 2001, I have taught classes for all ages from infants to adults. I have also studied child development and have a special love for bringing an adoration of the arts to the youngest artists in our communities. It is imperative that all my teachings highlight body positivity and the belief that everyone can dance. A life-long learner and dance aficionado, I continue my dance studies in Ballroom, Baroque Dance, and Scottish Country Dance. My influences include Isadora Duncan, Katherine Dunham, Sean Greene & Misty Copeland. I love being a part of the DA Dance Family.

My little just started dancing because her big sister dances. She is a shy one but warmed up to Miss Chrystie and loves tapping with her. She plays music that she loves and is helping her learn how to tap dance in a fun way!

Chrystie is so amazing! She's honest, fun, and dedicated to the kids!
I pioneered a private Arts Academy drama school for 4 years, and am now teaching acting and directing at a middle and high school. My goal is to help students become well-rounded in all the areas that are needed to truly become a working actor. These areas include: auditioning, theater, film, and improvisation.
Being a repertory performer for Silver Star Playhouse (musical theater parodies), and having lots of experience and training in improv and interactive dinner theaters really trains you in comedy. My husband also owns Sound waves Productions (technological advanced studio in Gilbert)- so completing remote voiceover work for a reel is not out of the question.
I also encourage students to pair in duos for effective scene work and more in-depth technique training (this will also split your lesson cost in half).
I am super excited to be building a private and small group lesson platform at our home studio and to meet your personal acting needs! I recently stepped down from 2 years of full time drama and art at Lumos Arts Academy- a private school I played a role in pioneering- to focus on building up passionate individuals who are serious about thriving in the performing world.
I also created a Theater and Film Program at Experience Arts School where students ages 5- adult could take classes (group or private) or join an acting company for regular performance gigs. I directed multiple musicals during this time. My company competed with the AZ Thespians and took home many superior scores.
Personally, I have been acting for 25 years in the Mid and Southwest, studied theater at UWOshkosh, Film at Scottsdale CC, improv with iO i
n Chicago, and Meisner with The renowned Kevin Phipps. I was part of a musical repertory company based in Utah for 8 months, traveled around the Phoenix valley performing in 8 different dinner theaters for 8 years, and have produced and directed multiple professional music videos for Soundwaves Productions in Gilbert.
I believe that each actor learns differently, and the best way is to become well-rounded in your training to discover what works best for you. I have become very well trained in identifying strengths and weaknesses in actors, and will work with you on the best technique to suit your needs and style.
Classes I have created curriculum for/taught include: Monologues Auditioning for theater and film Script Analysis Beginning- Advanced Improv Beginning- Advanced Scene Acting Uta Hagen's Repertoire Acting for Film Voice and Diction Music Video Creation Musical Theater Acting/Dance
My daughter raves about her lessons with Rebecca. She gets in the car and is always so excited to tell me what she did or learned, and when she practices I can see things click and improve. It’s so refreshing to see her passion and satisfaction in the learning process. Clearly she has a gift for teaching and inspiring teenagers, because I never see Anna work this hard. Thank you for all you do!
August 29, 2019
Rebecca is kind, instructive, and helpful. She Has helped me improve my acting as well as set up a demo reel that I'm thrilled with.
August 27, 2019
I enjoy my class every time I go. Rebecca is a fun teacher, even though she keeps me focused. We are always thinking outside the box on how to make class better for me personally. I like that she is flexible and cares about how I learn. One of the things I appreciate most is that she points out what I do well and what I should improve in, whereas some of my teachers in the past only focus on one or the other.
Improv dosn't need to be scary! I'll work with you on the basics of improv (yes and..., blocking, etc.) and then move forward based on your individual needs and goals. Improvisational acting is more than just what you may have seen on Whose Line is it Anyway, it's a valuable tool for actors, and we can work together to unlock its full potential.
Hi! I'm an actor, director, and playwright who loves sharing my passion for theatre with people of all ages. I am primarily an acting teacher specializing in the Meisner technique. I am a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma with a BFA in Acting and Texas Tech University with an MFA in Theatre Performance. I have had the opportunity to train from some of the country's most exceptional theatre artists, and bring a wide array of tools to my work as an acting coach.
Acting is hard work, but it should be fun! I'll teach you specific techniques or we can work on specific material. Students can expect a highly personalized experience; I like to "meet the student where they are", serving as a guide and a coach rather than an all-knowing guru. Whatever your experience, skill, or comfort level with performing may be, I will work with
you using the tools in my toolbox to make you a more present, spontaneous, and engaging performer. I teach students to better understand their character and make spontaneous choices, living fully in the moment as an actor instead of worrying about "what's my next line?" or "do I look silly?"
Let's find what's unique about you and find ways to use it!
I can also work with students on healthy use of voice, dialects, and movement. I specialize in French, Russian, Cockney, Received Pronunciation (RP), Southern American, and Irish dialects. I'm excited to work with you!

I have had the awesome experience of working with Cynthia Valentine for over 15 years as a Spoken Word Artist, Poet and Recording Artist and she is both Professional and Organized. Recently I did my very first appearance as a theater actor in a stage play and her coaching, directing and production was top notice and working with her allowed me to be free to express my self as an actor. I highly recommend her.
As a coach I like to make anyone who works with me feel comfortable with the uncomfortable in order get the most out of their acting experience. Being an actor myself, I’ve always appreciated having someone’s company to offer a different perspective when working on a role. Together we can focus on audition prep, character study, career planning, or whatever it is that gets you one step closer to your goals. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Knowing how to act not only gives you a new and unique skill set but it will also helps build your creativity and confidence as a person. Be bold and tell the story, it all starts here!
I am a professional actress with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre from Palm Beach Atlantic University. I have been acting for about twelve years now and it is my biggest passion in life!
Growing up as the goofy middle child in a big family I always felt like I didn't get enough attention or that I was overlooked. It wasn't until I stepped on stage that I truly was able to express myself and understand others around me. To me acting is so much more than just pretending, acting is a dramatic reflection of life. You can certainly learn a lot about life from doing it!
I love comedy, tragedy, and everything in between. I have been classically trained in Shakespearean theatre, improvisation, and techniques such as Meisner and Stanislavski. I have performed at theatre's such as The Cumberland County Playhouse, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Fran
cis Wilson Playhouse, Palm Beach Atlantic University Theatre, The Florida Renaissance Festival, Entr'act Theatrix, and most recently The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.
I have a huge passion for students of all ages. Along with performing I currently teach theatre to elementary school students through Drama Kids International. my curriculum will be based upon the unique needs of every student. I specialize in monologue and audition help but I would be happy to accommodate any students desire to learn absolutely anything about acting. For example: Improvisation, characterization, comedy, scene study, and much more! I am very spunky and energetic and if you are not enjoying yourself and learning new things every single lesson, then I am doing my job horribly wrong. Let me know if this sounds like a good fit for you!
Hannah helped me prep audition materials and feel more confident in my skills. Definitely recommend!
April 15, 2019
I was so worried about auditioning for a lead role in The Sound of Music. Hannah was a tremendous help by teaching me not only to show emotion in my voice and mannerism but to match that same expression in my body language. Her constructive criticism and guidance helps me to achieve the role of Liesel Von Trapp! Thank you so much!!
