I have tutored all levels of mathematics since 2006. As a tutor, I reinforce all concepts, provide examples, and provide the student with opportunity to work on practice problems on their own to assess their understanding of the subject matter.

About Ronald
I received my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Economics (GPA 3.72) and my Master's degree in Applied Statistics (GPA 4.0) at Rutgers University. I have had the pleasure in being a tutor since 2006.

I was a tutor at Rutgers University for 6 years during my tenure as an undergraduate & Graduate student tutoring Math, Economics, and Statistics. I continue to assist students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs. My students range from middle school through college/graduate level. I tutor all levels of Mathematics and Statistics.
Currently, I am a professional Statistician analyzing big data for a living and tutoring on the side.

The qualities that I possess as a tutor are that I'm passionate about the subject matter to help students be engaged in the subject matter, very knowledgeable in the subject matter which will enab
le me to fill in the gaps in knowledge that the student may have, and I'm patient as I understand the struggles that the student is experiencing in trying to learn the new concepts.

"Math is a skill of the mind that can be trained with patience and care; whereas, success is a skill of the will that can only be nourished with time." Rod K. May 2015.

Subjects include Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus.

Sometimes even the smartest child need some guidance, understanding and support. There is a "child" in all of us!

I am here to help.

90mins/lesson + travel fee; travel fee waived for 120min lessons.

(IMPORTANT: Please do NOT book any lessons without confirming with me if we have a match in schedule. I have other obligations besides tutoring so if you do not have a flexible schedule, I recommend other tutors that will match your budget and schedule.)

About Rod
I specialize in Test Prep (NYC Gifted & Talented Test, SHSAT, TACHS/HSPT/COOP, SSAT/ISEE, Common Core, Regents, college/graduate admissions tests [i.e. SAT/ACT, GRE/GMAT]) and tutor a number of academic subjects in Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Combinatorics), Statistics and Science (especially Physics) and K-12 English. I am particularly interested in Number Theory, Systems Engineering (Feedback Theory), Electronics (Analog Circuit Design) and Cosmology. In the social sciences and in my work experience, I was practically exposed to Marketing and HR/Corporate Strategy. I have bachelor's and master's degrees in electronics engineering and business respectively and I enjoy tutoring both children and adults.

(NOTE: Use the "Ask a Question" feature to confirm if we have a match in schedules
and targets/expectations. In other words, DO NOT book any lessons with me unless we have a mutual understanding. Please read my profile below, the subject(s) you are interested in, my tutoring rates and minimum times very carefully. Thank you.)

My interests also include gifted learning and STEM education. For example, I was successful in helping a 5-year old pass the NYC Gifted & Talented Test so he could enroll in any New York City school participating in the program.

I have several years experience working with various people from different backgrounds as an engineer (hardware+software) and as business developer in multinational companies and startups and this exposure has given me deeper and practical insights into personality and intelligence enabling me to adapt my teaching style to different needs and situations. Furthermore, I have learned from experience that there are three best tools for learning: practice, practice and more practice!

Tutoring for yourself or for your son/daughter is both an investment in time and money for a future return so please also plan accordingly. Now, I make sure that I do not totally depend on tutoring for income so I can maintain a certain level of quality. In other words, when there is a match in objective, budget and schedule, I am quite happy to be part of someone's educational journey. I consider it indeed a very special privelege to be able to help a student because it is my experience that effective education can be life-changing. Finally, I am aware that other tutors may be in a better position to meet your existing situation so we have to accept that and move on.

Tutoring Rate (IMPORTANT): I only do in-person tutoring because I believe effective learning is multi-dimensional and personal not flat and distant. My minimum lesson length is 1.5 hours for Academic subjects and 2.0 hours for Test Prep. My rates for children and teens will in principle be at least the same as adults because I actually invest more time and effort since I have to consider the feedback of at least 2 individuals (student+guardian) compared with an adult student. Different arrangements possible on a case-by-case basis. Please see each subject rate for more details.

When I am not tutoring, I am involved in projects related to technology, hospitality and service industries. I also enjoy cooking especially when I can make an ordinary dish into something extra-ordinary by adding that little "extra."

I️ was connected to Rod through a tutoring agency. I️ contacted the agency because I️ recently graduated college and wanted to get into grad school but had not taken a math class since the 10th grade. The school I️ was applying to needed a minimum math score for the GRE, which I️ knew would be a enormous stretch for me. Additionally, I️ always had trouble with math and knew I️ would need a tutor to re-teach me everything I️ needed to know to get the score I️ wanted. Initially, the agency connected me to 3 different tutors who were all absolutely terrible! Sometimes they didn’t even know how to answer sample questions in the workbooks! Finally, I was connected to Rod. After our first meeting I️ knew he would be the one who would help me improve. After a month of intense work with him my GRE math scores actually improved a full 12 points! Beyond that, he literally taught me math in a way in which I️ actually understood it. Before I️ just thought I couldn’t learn, but now I’m confident that I️ actually retained everything and it even made sense! I’m so grateful to have met Rod because before him I️ truly felt hopeless. I️ would definitely recommend Rod to anyone who is looking to drastically improve their math skills. If you’re like me and hate math, can’t grasp it, and even feel like you just can’t learn it, then definitely contact Rod now! You won’t be sorry!

I initially reached out to Rod for Algebra 1 review because I felt that my daughter lacked a solid foundation in algebra. However, after a couple of sessions, we have decided to switch gears toward geometry with Rod’s recommendation. Throughout the geometry lessons, algebra practice was incorporated. I am happy that not only did Rod tailor his lessons to my daughter’s goals but also he gave her a lot of encouragement. My daughter found it extremely helpful that she got to explain and discuss with Rod, which made lessons interactive and real learning. Now going back to school, my daughter feels confident, thanks to Rod!

Rod worked with my daughter weekly for a couple of months leading up to the NYC state tests. With Rod's careful, concerted planning and diligence, my daughter's score went from 2.4 on the 7th grade Math state test, to a 2.8 in 8th grade, which equates to a move from below the 50th percentile, to between the 50th and 75th percentile. My daughter's in-school math instruction was chaotic and disjointed, and I attribute her improvement to Rod's intervention.

I believe that a love of learning and a love of teaching go hand in hand. Teaching and tutoring allow me to help others develop that same love of learning that drives me in my studies. I find joy in showing students that intelligence is not fixed, helping them prove to themselves that they can improve their performance in any class with hard work.

The best tutors are people who love both the subjects they tutor and the feeling of helping someone succeed. I have always loved math and science, and part of my tutoring process is helping others to appreciate these topics as well. With words of encouragement and a non-judgmental attitude, I guide students toward a deeper understanding and better problem-solving strategies.

I prepare in advance for every lesson, regardless of the topic, to ensure that I am refreshed on the subject and to develop any materials I might use during the session (equation sheets, worksheets, etc.). I develop practice problems during math and science ...

About Allison
Hello! I have been tutoring for nine years, and I have a Master's degree in Astronomy & Astrophysics. I love teaching, and I make sure to incorporate real-life examples into my math and science problems to help people develop an appreciation of the subjects. When tutoring French, I add elements of culture that I have learned from my multiple trips to France (including an entire summer in Paris!) to make the language come alive. Book a lesson with me and see how I can help you achieve today!

Crochet lessons: I have been crocheting for 14 years, and I love to get creative with it! I make stuffed animals, blankets, and articles of clothing both from patterns and from my own imagination. I have taught math for the past 18 years. My students have consistently seen their grades improve from C's to B's and B's to A's. I have also helped students increase their overall SAT scores by 200-400 points, ACT scores by 4-8 composite points, and SAT Math Level 2 scores by 100-200 points.

I first carefully diagnose the student's strengths and weaknesses by analyzing previous standardized test scores or making them take an initial diagnostic test.

Then, I create a customized syllabus for each and every student based on what he/she most needs to improve the most in the shortest amount of time. I use only the best published materials and some of my own custom-made booklets.

As the lessons progress, I continually monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments until the student reaches his/her goal and no longer needs my services.

About Paul
I am a professional tutor who has successfully taught over 2,000 students for the past 19 years in a range of subjects including the SAT, ACT, English, math, college application essays, and writing contests. I graduated Yale, and I have won numerous essay contests.

I have helped thousands of students achieve their academic goals. I have increased old SAT scores 300-500 points, new SAT scores 150-300 points, and composite ACT scores 3-6 points. I have raised math and English grades from C’s to B’s and B's to A's. Under my guidance, students have written college application essays that contributed to their acceptances into Yale, UPenn, Cornell, West Point, and dozens of other prestigious universities. For a select few well-read students, I have coached them to win a variety of writing contests including the prestigious Scholastic Art &
Writing Awards.

Through classes or private lessons, I connect with students, motivate them to dream bigger and work harder, pinpoint areas of improvement, utilize proven methods, and above all, get results.

I live in northern New Jersey. My better half is Jeanette, and I have three beautiful children.

Paul also helped me with college applications and decisions which I really found helpful in deciding where I should apply. Paul is an amazing tutor not only for how much he is versatile between different subjects, whether it be AP Calculus to SAT to college essays, but also to how much he cares about your health and wellbeing. As a STEM professional, I know how important math is in one's life. As a math tutor, I get satisfaction when I see the look of excitement and joy on a student's face when they understand a problem that gave them trouble before our lesson. While each lesson will sharpen an underdeveloped skill, I will also walk through a student's academic homework with them, giving extra attention to areas in which the student feels less comfortable.

About Christopher
I am a professional designer and researcher who has successfully taught students of all experience levels in a range of subjects including architecture, college-application essays, design software, English, and math. I graduated from Columbia, and I am passionate about helping others learn.

My strengths include working with students to visualize and achieve their goals, discovering areas for improvement, and, most importantly, getting results. My students have gone from zero knowledge in architecture and design software to full literacy. My students have increased English and math scores both in the classroom and on exams. Finally, with my coaching, students have written college application essays that earned them a place at prestigious institutions such as Columbia, Cornell, and Harvard, among others.

I live in the New York City
area and enjoy working with both in-person and online students.
