Hello! I'm Dax L., As a coach, my approach is kind, down to earth, and non-judgemental, but I make sure to give constructive criticism because without it, you cannot and will not improve. I have studied with a wide array of different acting coaches. I am also a producer, director, and screenwriter. Now having finally had the privilege of being the casting director for the film I produced, I have invaluable knowledge to share with you on what to do and what not to do when auditioning (both self-tapes and in person) if you choose to make one of our lessons an industry coaching lesson. For acting coaching, I have helped actors have that "WOW it finally makes sense" moment, where they understand what they had been lacking all along.. unpredictability! In my opinion, the things an actor needs to do to stand out in an audition is be unpredictable, believable, and fully focused. I am super excited to team up with TakeLessons and I hope to be your new coach!
Side note: If you need both ...

Book NowHello and welcome! According to their interests, my students will learn to score for film, how to create their own personalized sound libraries, music notation, how to work with synthesizers, the business of being a successful composer, and much more. Often the most challenging part of becoming a composer is developing your own work-flow that can bring out ideas in a fast and efficient way. Once these ideas are recorded, whether through traditional notation methods or using a DAW or audio recording device, the job of the composer is to develop these ideas in a unique and captivating way. My motto is that being a great composer is not necessarily having the best ideas, but rather that the development of those ideas is where the art of composition occurs.

Acting is such a broad term! What are your goals? Do you want to be in films? Do you want to do Shakespeare? Do you want to be in a sit com? Depending upon what your interests are and where you want to go, we will build a plan together. My philosophy on acting techniques is that they are tools to help you, not tests you pass if you're a good actor and fail if you're a bad one. Different techniques work for different people and it is our job to find out what inspires you.
I've worked as a professional actor for many years, performed on Broadway, have my MFA in Performing Arts, and my BA in Arts and Education. I was an assistant director to Tony-winner Sharon Ott and have written and produced my own work. I have experience in both stage and camera acting, which have specific technical differences, but are both a lot of fun once you get used to the medium. Audition technique, preparing monologues, and creating promotional materials are also things I can help with. Anyone who wants to ...

I am an actor currently based in Los Angeles and I also work in New York. I am a recent graduate from the Yale School of Drama with an MFA in Acting. Before Yale, I attended Southern Methodist University where I received my BFA in acting with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship. I have experience in creating curriculums for introduction to acting, scene study, self-tape and advanced acting technique. I also coach students on monologues, audition technique, and scene work for the stage. I work with students of all ages and experience levels. In the classroom I use a combination of different teaching methodologies from Stanislavsky to Uta Hagen, in addition to my own acting principles. I like to pride myself on exploring how acting pedagogy can change in the future. The culture around BIPOC representation in film, television and theatre should also be reflected in how acting is taught in the classroom. I think both white and BIPOC students can benefit from an exploration of the work that ...

Contemporary dance. You’ve probably seen it on famous dance television shows like So You Think You Can Dance or Dancing with the Stars, but do you actually know what contemporary dance is? With roots in several different styles of dance, like ballet, hip hop, and modern dance, contemporary dance emerged in the mid-1900s and quickly became one of the most popular dance styles in the Western world. If you are interested in any kind of dance, studying contemporary dance for beginners is a great …
