About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

Great teacher. Much better than my theory teachers at Kennesaw State. If it wasn't for Maria I would have never gotten an A or even passed Music Theory or Aural Skills. I plan to start working with her in the fall to help me test out of Group Piano.

Our child has done so well with Ms. Maria. Lauren has just completed Level 5 of the ABRSM exams this past spring and did fantastic. This is our 5th year with Ms. Maria and we know we made the right choice by switching studios. Lauren is happy and progressing much farther than others in her previous studio. Highly recommend.

Whether you are looking to boost your NYSSMA scores, or are just getting started, I can tailor lessons to your specific musical interests, and level. Being in my 20's, I have great rapport with children and adults alike!

About Michael
As a recent graduate of the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase, I have been a performing classical pianist for nearly 20 years. He's professional and has impressive attributes being a UCLA grad and participating member of the armed forces; but more so, he's encouraging to his students and in our son - he positively encouraged a passion for the trumpet and a high regard for music in general.

Whether you desire traditional piano lessons, or a more simplified, progressive method tailored just for your specific needs, we can get you to the place you want to be!

I teach a simple, and broken down system of music theory and piano that is ideal for the vocalist, songwriter, and beginner or intermediate pianist to quickly grasp and apply to their practice! It is the perfect method for the vocalists/ songwriters to be able to accompany themselves using basic piano chords within the first few lessons!

If desired, I teach traditional piano lessons out of the Alfred's books for children and adults, which are wonderful tools to help cover all grounds of sight-reading, technique, scales, repertoire, and music theory. Incorporating tried and true tools like flash cards are also essential in helping students quickly and wholly memorize notes of piano along with correlating position on staff (sheet music.)

Note: Most often, I teach a combination of the two methods, and ...

I have been one of Laura's students for many years and she is honestly the best teacher a student could have! She is very knowledgable about all aspects of piano, voice, and performing techniques and is very qualified to be a teacher. She is so down to earth and cares about all of her students. I was very shy growing up, but she helped my confidence grow and encouraged me every lesson we had. She even offered me performing opportunities to gain more experience and feel more comfortable on stage. She is beyond talented and is a great role model to all young musicians. I am beyond thankful to have worked with her for so many years and have nothing but good things to say about her!

I come from a very exciting musical background. I grew up as a concert pianist from the age of 5 and went on to win competitions through my senior year in High School. Once in college, I focused on both concert piano and vocal performance degrees. Having played all styles of piano, I can teach anyone to play from ages 3-93. I've performed in musicals all over the united states, singing many roles in shows such as Sweeney Todd, Putting It Together, Lady Be Good and Off-Broadway at the Snapple Center in Piggy Nation. I've composed 4 musicals and am currently working on another. What I look forward to most, however, is teaching people how to love music, whether it be through singing an aria or a pop song or playing the piano via Chopin or Stevie Wonder. Additionally, if you've ever wanted to write your own pop song or classical form sonata, I offer Music Composition lessons.

Luke is awesome! My son John was prepping for his college auditions in New York and his voice teacher in San Francisco recommended having a few lessons in New York City with Luke while he was there for a week beforehand. Luke was able to make my John feel so comfortable in his singing. He ended up taking an hour lesson with Luke every day the week he was in NYC. Luke helped condition John's voice and gave him warmup a to do before each of his auditions for schools. By the end of the week, Luke had John singing up to a high C very comfortably without any straining. He just knows how to make the voice float. (If you've ever heard him sing, you know what floating sounds like). It's too bad he left New York. I would have loved to have been able to see him perform when he was on Broadway, but he's decided to take his knowledge and nurture other's with what he knows. Something tells me many of his students will go on to become famous singers.

My son took piano lessons from Luke in New York City. When he told me he was moving away to Las Vegas, my heart sunk. In the 2 years that my son took lessons from him (he was 5-7 years old), he learned so much from being a complete beginner to being capable of playing small classical works with 2 hands. There was a time when my son wanted to learn a song on the radio and the music hadn't been released yet. Luke was able to listen to it and transcribe it for piano so that my son could learn it. Luke goes over and beyond for each of his students. After 2 years with Luke, we will sorely miss him, but the city of Las Vegas has just received a gem of a teacher in Luke. I suspect his schedule will fill up quickly.

Have you ever wanted to play jazz? Here in New Orleans is the perfect place to learn and eventually play it on the music scene! I have been teaching jazz for the last five years in many subject areas including piano, jazz theory, composition, ear training and more. Lessons will include methods and technique for students to be able to express themselves on their instrument through jazz improvisation. My primary instrument is piano but I am open to teaching any student on any instrument that is interested in learning how to play jazz. Send me a message if you are interested!

About Jason
I am a professional jazz pianist and composer. I attended the Florida State University studying jazz under some of the best jazz musicians in the world including Scotty Barnhart, director of the Count Basie Orchestra and Marcus Roberts, pianist for Wynton Marsalis. I have been playing music professionally since 2011 with my own bands and other groups including the Tallahassee Jazz Symphony Orchestra and a jazz trio here in New Orleans. I truly enjoy teaching anyone interested in learning more about jazz because playing jazz can truly help one grow in their musicianship. I also enjoy exploring more contemporary genres of music like Neo-Soul, R&B, and electronic music. I released a single on Spotify in 2016 called The First Breath and plan on releasing more music. Some of my biggest musical inspirations are Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, and
Robert Glasper. I hope to reflect my musical influences and experiences on all of my students.
