Teaching English to Other Language Speakers
I have MA in TESOL from Florida Atlantic University (2012)
I have a Master's Degree (2012) in teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as degree in violin performance from Poland.
I studied piano in Poland for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program.
For teaching music theory I mostly used Master Theory.
I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions.
I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs.
I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.
*** Lesson Details ***
All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary.
All my lessons include: technique: I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both.
music theory: I use Master Theory or other books such as Hal Leonard's Piano Note spellers & Piano Music Theory books for younger ages, music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.
Besides Essential Elements 2000 for strings I also use String Tunes and Fiddle Runners to add more fun to the lessons. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.
*** Travel Equipment ***
The students needs to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place to be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.
*** Specialties ***
I tutor most K-12 subjects and prepare students to take ACT, SAT, GRE tests.
Music genres: Classical, traditional, Suzuki, Popular, Celtic, fiddle, Blues

I have taught ESL as a tutor and at an international language school for over five years and am a Speech-Language Pathologist, so I can also help with accent modification. Because I myself have studied several languages, I am able to relate to my students frustrations in learning another language.
I graduated with my Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology with Highest Honors at Queens College, which only accepts four percent of applicants. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pittsburgh Honors College on a Full Tuition Honors College Scholarship with a double major in French and Italian Language and Literature. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Last year, I scored above the 93rd percentile on my GRE Verbal and Writing sections. In high school, I scored above the 98th percentile on the SAT/ACT Verbal sections. I graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA from all AP and honors classes.
I am a speech-language pathologist with experience teaching children and adults various areas of language. Additionally, I have been tutoring a range of other subjects for over f
I tailor my lessons to each student I teach and to his or her individual learning styles. I am friendly, patient and not intimidating: three qualities that I personally find important in a tutor. I truly love teaching and meeting new students. I find that I always learn from my students when I teach as well! During our first lesson together, we can discuss your goals and create an academic plan personalized to your needs. I look forward to working with you!

I focus on speech fluency, it doesn't matter if you memorize vocabulary but don't have the confidence to speak the words you took the time to study. I practice with the basics of grammar because I want you to be comfortable saying the first thing that pops into your head, we can work on building more advanced skills later.
My parent's took me to Japan for 3 years as a child to expose me to different cultures and people, which I've taken to heart in believing that however different our upbringing or backgrounds are, we are just people. People who just want to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and observations with others, and I want to help contribute to spreading communication as much as I can.
I have worked as a TA and tutor at OSU for students studying Japanese, and I have helped many Japanese exchange students understand English grammar and how they can relate(make connections with) their native language to English.
I will structure lessons that are practical
I am an easygoing, reliable, patient guy. I understand we all start at different levels of fluency and will work with you every step of the way, in other words, fluency is repetition.
utilize visuals, enriched vocabulary, engaging lessons, real life experiences to build on. opportunities for conversational practice.

I have experience coaching friends with little or no knowledge of English. I especially enjoy coaching students whose language I do not speak, as this approximates best their everyday conversations with people they encounter in the US.
I enjoy talking about practical everyday life situations in an unstructured format, always considering the student's most pressing needs. Part of our work together may be accompanying the student on shopping trips, obtaining a driver's license, enrolling in a course, looking for an item in the library, etc.
I have a multicultural background, and can carry conversations in several languages. I have traveled to 77 countries and have visited Asia and Latin America countries on 200 occasions. I have lectured at the university level (graduate and undergraduate) and to managers worldwide.
Often, recent immigrants are puzzled even by simple questions. They become afraid to engage with Americans, and may retreat to the safety of their ethnic group and never learn English. I will teach you to listen better and understand more. You will learn simple words and sentences to make yourself understood.
We will test how you are doing by doling some everyday things you need to do: shopping, asking for help, getting directions. I may not speak more than a few words of your language. That is an advantage because it simulates what you encounter everyday. You will gain confidence in just a few days. I have seen it happen with several friends I have coached.

I am Japanese. Although a Japanese sentence can be translated to English in a grammatically correct way and English speakers can understand it, often the sentence does not resemble native English. Maggie helps advanced learners understand how certain words carry various emotions and create a certain ambience. She believes that native-like fluency cannot be attained through translation and gave me tools to break the habit and develop a more intuitive approach to language learning.
Maggie has great enthusiasm for teaching each student well. Her lessons were systematic and she clearly explained grammar and style points. She used not only textbooks, but also many materials which made her lessons much more fun! That’s why I liked her lessons so much.
I believe you would have a wonderful experience studying with Maggie.
Working with her would be one of the fastest ways to improve your English language skills."
Maggie is absolutely one of those who made this possible: she was one of my teachers, and she was simply great! She helped me so much in those months, and I really enjoyed following her classes. I think she is a brilliant, naturally gifted educator, enthusiastic and accurate. She is professional, serious, and her methods are simple and effective. She can always find ways to make things easier, even the most difficult ones (grammar for example!), so that meanings/concepts/rules would become clear and fixed in our mind.
She is also a very nice and generous person, always available to help: she cared so much about our education, making sure nobody was left behind, and every time I needed some extra explanations, she was always there to give more information, making examples taken from the everyday life, using tricks, songs, newspaper articles, connecting so theory to practice.
My English and I owe her a lot, and I’m sure your experience with her will be as enjoyable and rewarding as mine!"
