My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

I bring to teaching piano an unrivalled Juilliard education, international performing and recording career, and 18 years of experience teaching students of various levels. In teaching, I see myself as my students' partner dedicated to helping them realize their full potential as budding musicians and performers. I am encouraging, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible in teaching adults and children of all levels. I love finding the right individual approach with each of my students, so that they stay motivated and inspired while growing in their musical understanding and mastery.

I strongly believe that a chief tool enabling progress in all aspects of musicianship is focused listening, and see my role as a teacher to guide students in developing power and sensitivity of aural perception through concrete steps and activities. I'm deliberate in selecting and assigning a repertoire that challenges students with appropriate techniques and allows them to develop as pianists and ...

About Gabrielius
Why settle for piano lessons with a guitarist who also teaches drums and viola? This being NYC, start or continue your piano lessons with an actively performing and recording classical pianist with Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the Juilliard School and prizes in top international competitions. As a teacher, I am encouraging, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible in teaching adults and children of all levels. I love finding the right individual approach with each of my students, so that I can effectively help them reach their full potential, whether in their first steps in understanding and making music, or in preparation for performances/auditions. My teaching experience includes a teaching fellowship at Juilliard (2002-2004), private lessons since 2000, extensive master classes in US and abroad, and a university-level v
isiting professorship in my native Lithuania (2011-2016).

My international performing career has led me to appear as soloist with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (Austria), the Juilliard Orchestra, the New Amsterdam and Adelphi Symphony Orchestras (both in New York), Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (Ankara, Turkey), Wartburg Community Symphony (Iowa), and the Belarus State Symphony Orchestra in Minsk, while in my native Lithuania I appear regularly with all the major orchestras. I have garnered more than a dozen top prizes in competitions on both sides of the Atlantic, such as Beethoven (Vienna, Austria), Hilton Head (United States), and Maria Canals (Spain) International Piano Competitions.

Among the venues where I have enjoyed performing solo are New York’s Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, Washington, D.C.’s National Gallery, the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Vienna’s Musikverein, New York’s Symphony Space and Adelphi University, Helsinki’s (Finland) Temppeliaukion kirkko, large halls of National Philharmonic Societies of Belarus and Lithuania, and others. I do love to perform chamber music as well, and have played with numerous outstanding instrumentalists and singers.

I am passionately interested in the piano music by 20th-Century Lithuanian avant-garde composers Vytautas Bacevičius and Jeronimas Kačinskas, and have shared this interest through several critically acclaimed recordings. The British label ‘Toccata Classics’ has issued two volumes in an ongoing series of Bacevičius' piano music (2012 and 2016). In this project, I had a fortune to collaborate with the five-time Grammy-winning producer Judith Sherman and the five-time Grammy-nominated pianist Ursula Oppens. My recording of Vytautas Bacevičius’ piano concertos Nos. 3 and 4, with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the three-time Grammy-nominated conductor Christopher Lyndon-Gee was released by the largest classical music label 'Naxos' in 2015. Jeronimas Kačinskas' piano works appeared in 2013 on another release by 'Toccata Classics'.

I am looking forward to welcoming you in my studio!

I have been studying piano with professor Gabrielius Alekna in Vytautas Magnus University's Music Academy (Lithuania) for three years. Now we continue our lessons online and I am more than pleased to work with him - he is an amazing pianist, caring teacher and one of the most wonderful people that I've ever met. Over this time Gabrielius taught me to hear and understand (classical) music in new and very subtle ways, encouraged me to take challenging music pieces and successfully helped understand, learn and perform them. With Gabrielius' lessons and help I've won national and international piano solo and accompanists competitions, discovered new ways of interpretating music in piano duet and chamber music ensemble. Gabrielius' teaching distinguishes itself by calm and professional approach, which makes the learning process seem rather easy and pleasant than challenging or requiring much effort. The methods used by Gabrielius help achieve excellent quality in one's playing and create the feeling of freedom, which makes the music flow...

Gabrielius is a brilliant teacher who cares very much about his students. He has taught my son piano for over 4 1/2 years and in that time has helped him to reach beyond what he thought he could do. He is very thoughtful and dedicated in finding the right techniques and repertoire to challenge my son and allow him to grow. His ability to connect with his students is exceptional, so much so that we moved from Virginia in order to be closer for lessons. What my son has liked best is that Gabrielius has taught him to hear and think about music in a new way.

About Tristan
I am a professional orchestra conductor, cellist, guitarist, and educator. I conduct student orchestras in New York City, and throughout Fairfield County, CT.

I have taught many students over the past 5+ years, all of whom have improved, have developed confidence on their instrument, and improved immensely in every possible way.

I am highly organized and attentive, and strive to create a personalized curriculum for each one of my students. I am entirely student focused and do not teach from a template. Every single person requires a slightly different approach.

My main goal as a private teacher is to inspire. My job is not simply to make my students improve. It is to get them to develop the interest and the desire to practice and explore on their own motivation. That is my greatest focus as a teacher.

About Max
Most recently, I was selected as one of eight pianists worldwide across all age divisions to attend The Verbier Festival's Artist Training Program in Switzerland, summer of 2018.
I am currently a second-year undergraduate student at The Juilliard School in New York City, where I study with the Susan W. Rose Chair of Piano Department, Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky and Hung-Kuan Chen; my history with the institution dates back to Juilliard Pre-College, where I graduated as a Juilliard Scholarship recipient. In addition to my formal musical education in classical piano, I'm also a graduate of the Lakeside School in Seattle, a highly selective, college preparatory school offering a rigorous academic program; notable alumni include Bill Gates, Paul Allen and the McCaw brothers. I am well-versed and fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese. I am we
ll accustomed to working with young children, adolescents and teenagers along with the elderly in retirement homes, and hope to nurture and instill in each of my students a genuine, individualized passion for music, along with imparting to each student all the knowledge I've attained over 15 years of musical experience off and on stage, playing at the world's most acclaimed venues and studying with some of the world's most sought after pedagogues. I've taught many years privately in the greater Seattle area, as a private teacher at the Aspen Music Festival and as a private teacher serving the NYC area since 2015. My students have won regional and international competitions for young people, and have performed at prestigious venues such as Benaroya Hall, Alice Tully @ Lincoln Center, the Kauffman Center, Foundation LV in Paris, and Carnegie Hall.

He is a very promising Juilliard student.
His teaching reflects being educated by the world’s most sought after classical piano mentors.
What he teaches is unorthodox and complex in nature, but he teaches and demonstrates effectively in an easily comprehensive manner.
I believe that learning his skills will have a tremendous impact on my child’s future in both music and life.
I strongly recommend him to anyone who cannot be satisfied with other instructors.
PS: He works well to encourage and nurture youth, as my sons are 6 and 9 years old.

Max is my favorite private teacher I have ever had since I started learning piano couple years ago. He is a very talented and positive person who has been encouraging me to play the way I am. He believes the best way to be good at playing piano is to enjoy it and trust yourself that going for what you feel like it is about in the piece. Recently, we had tight lessons to prepare my coming aidition for Brookly College’s music program. I really appriciated all the help and support from Max. He is always making sure that he covers the lesson that he wants to go over with that day. I just passed my audition two days ago and got into the program I wanted to. I can’t thank him enough for all the guidence from his class. Max is a very good instrutor that coaches his students to have more passion and belifs in the music field. I love the way he teaches and really appreciated my boyfriend who helped me found such a great teacher!

Max is the most amazing teacher I’ve ever met. And I teach for a living. I am 45 years old. I got piano lessons when I was an elementary and junior high school student for approximately 4 years. Although I liked playing piano, I’d thought that I didn’t have enough talent, in terms of technical skill and emotional expression. In my first lesson, Max taught me how to use my wrist and elbow to make lighter sounds, as well as how to practice in a certain way in order to produce crystal clear sounds for trills and in faster parts, by making a proper space between notes. I never before understood these points and others, despite teaching by others. More importantly, he helped me to be confident in expressing my emotion in my playing. I realized that practicing piano is such a delightful process to be connected to my life memories and to liberate all my emotion attached to them. This is like a therapeutic process. His teaching makes my life more artistic and meaningful. I really appreciate his deep passion for teaching. It is clearly his mission. He is a true teacher, who wants to help people grow as artists in their own right. I just wish that I met him earlier. But I am glad that it is not late for me.

We'll work on the ear as well as technique and theory together. In addition we'll begin to learn how to play written music on the piano, working level by level.

About Grady
My personal philosophy of music is to explore and learn as much from my students as I can teach them. For me teaching is like going on an adventure to find something together. I've been able to play all over the world and tour with many different musicians and the thing that made the core of every great performance was the human interaction and communication. For me music is about being more human. This is something I just as much try to impart and teach in my lessons as theory and technique. (On a side note I can travel farther than 13 miles as long as it's in the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx).
