Private Songwriting Teacher

Students can expect a thoughtful, patient and kind teacher who wants to help them grow and mature as writers. We'll spend time focusing on chords, melodic development, song structure, and (if you're a beginner) analyzing the works of other great songwriters. I also like to include arranging techniques to help my students bring their songs to a full band if they want to.

About Gabbi

I am a professional vocalist and composer, with a BFA and BMus in Jazz Performance, and over 12 years of performance and recording experience internationally, including appearances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center with NY's premiere a cappella ensemble Khorikos, and the Knitting Factory with Bro

Gabbi knows her stuff! She is fun and kind, but is definitely there to help you improve. I've really enjoyed my lessons with Gabbi, and she has helped me out with everything from my choir repertoire to playing around with improvising and making songs my own.

I have been taking lessons with Gabbi for about two months now. In such a short amount of time, I have seen major improvements in my abilities. She provides helpful apps and song recommendations that really expand your vocal range. I record each lesson, as suggested by her, which has made me more comfortable with my voice. Her patience and kindness have allowed me to break out of my shell. She's incredibly knowledgeable and always explains concepts in a way that is easy to understand and replicate. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a vocal instructor!!! Ps- Her accent is adorable!

My 9 yr. old daughter received singing lessons with Rachel. Rachel was SO wonderful, patient, and creative with every session with her. She was constantly coming up with different ways to keep her engaged and was always reassuring her to increase her confidence. She gave great constructive feedback on how my daughter was doing and what she can work on to improve. I give her 5 stars! Thanks so much, Rachel!

Overall, very impressed. She is direct and doesn't tell you something you want to hear. Her evaluation process is well rounded and planned. She puts together a great curriculum to know what to expect in the coming lessons. Very easy going person and makes you feel completely comfortable at the initial lessons.

Lenna is a terrific cello teacher! I feel lucky to have found her through this site. I was starting from zero with the cello and she was able to guide me through the Suzuki book to be able to play some songs -- even sight-reading. While I have a long way to go, I appreciate her focus and dedication to improving my playing skills. Highly recommended!

Lenna is out of this world! When I first undertook, as an adult beginner, to learn the cello, I often found myself frustrated by the challenge. Lenna changed the way I approach my studies. She taught me to FEEL music, to find the beauty in slowing down and repeating, to have patience with my practice and to appreciate my progress. She has improved my rhythm, vibrato, sound quality, knowledge of music theory and more. She is always gentle and supportive during our lessons and approaches learning with a humility I only wish I could have. She likes to end lessons by guiding her students through a few minutes of improv, which I deeply enjoy. A talented cellist (and musician generally); a wonderful instructor; and a kind, supportive, optimistic personality. I love working with Lenna and strongly recommend her.

Aidan is a terrific teacher!! I played professionally over 35 years ago and have not played at all since. At this point I could not play ANYTHING. He took me back through the basics and got me thinking the way I did when I was in my teens. Clearly he has the technical aspect of both music and teaching down - but what made him a great teacher to me is his love of music and guitar. Reminded me of why I loved it in the first place. Although we didn't match up on style perfectly - he embraced the music that I loved and got me back up and running - could not give him a higher recommendation!!

"Fernando is one of the best vocal coaches around. He is a great vocalist and coach, but what I love most about working with him is his patience, guidance and support. He takes the time to fully understand what it is his clients are trying to accomplish and creates his lessons based on this. In other words, he works to help you achieve the best vocals given your chosen genre. I've worked with other vocal coaches and some of them just have a pre made lesson, which is fine, but I like the fact Fernando structures the lessons base on my style and what I am trying to achieve. If you do POP, he helps you with POP, if you do R&B he helps you with R&B etc etc.. but around you, not just some basic pre-boxed lessons.

He is brilliant when it comes to writing music and helping come up with new ideas for songs. He once taught me a game for writing lyrics about 4 years ago that to this day I still use in my sessions.

I continue to use the teachings he has given me in my music career and with my clients when we are in the studio recording. He is my number 1 recommendation when clients ask for a vocal coach."

Fawn is easy to talk to and she brings up thought provoking topics I would have never thought to write about. We work in Google Docs so I can see as she makes adjustments and changes. I am learning more than I thought imaginable and my

"Enormous Student base an affirmation of an Enormously Successful Teacher

Fawn is a warrior for justice. She rights all the wrongs of other teachers bad coaching. She turned my sons bad piano habits around in just 2 lessons! My daughter's bad vocal habits changed after the first lesson! I have never seen anything like it. We are grateful to have found her. I now have confidence that my children are in the best hands possible. I love the energy she puts into her recitals and the enormous student base she has is an affirmation that she is doing great things in California!

Showed me how to change the melody in the bridge to make my song stronger. I am pitching songs to have them recorded by Christian artist. I think one of the songs we worked on has good chance of being recorded. Thank you Mimi. Will come back for more sessions."

"Fernando is a true talent and an asset to the community of Fort Wayne, Indiana. My first experience with him was 7 years ago at St. Henry Community Center. Fernando sang and played guitar during our Christmas recital. I was completely amazed with his vocal range and ability to captivate an audience with his overall musical aura. Fernando also taught vocal lessons for St. Henry and continued to contribute his ideas and talents to enhance the community center. We were blessed to have him as a part of our staff. He is, without a doubt, the best vocal coach that one could ask for. If you are looking to make singing a goal of yours in 2017, do yourself a favor and sign up for lessons with Fernando."

Songwriting 101: Using the "Long-Line" Concept

One of the most wonderful and rewarding things about the art of songwriting is that there are many different ways to approach making your own music. Arlington,TX music teacher Ric F. previously shared with us his tips on using rhythm as a guide to writing. Today, Ric would like to add another aspect to your understanding of writing songs, something he calls the "long-line" concept. Unlike visual art where you can see it all at once, music takes “time” to reveal itself. Today I would like …
