Paul M is an American born, New York-based Piano teacher, Vocal coach, Pianist, Composer and Artist. As an educator, Paul is part of The Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, College Music Society and Music Teachers National. He has been an Adjunct-instructor at New York University (NYU). Paul also conducts master classes and seminars in The United states and South America. For the past few years, he has implemented classes in composition and music history in the coastal area of Ecuador and New York. His music studio in New York City is in high demand.  His recent public performances include Ecuador South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters NYC and The Staller Center. Paul has performed with The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The New York University Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with well-known piano teachers including: Martin Canin, Morey Ritt, Tina Dahl, and Anita Gelber. In 2011 he released a record consisting of his performance of original compositions for solo piano that is available in bookstores and on iTunes.
As a composer Paul has composed music for the feature film Documentary Between the Shades, directed by Jill Salvino and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in 2017. In 2014, Paul was the composer for the radio show Ackerman Associates Meets Dracula written and directed by Peter Stass. In 2014 he wrote the score for, Lies People Tell, a short film that premiered at the san pedro film festival. In 2011, he released his first solo record Succession of images, a song cycle for solo piano. In 2017, he released his second record Hope, a chamber music work recorded with clarinetist Thomas Piercy and Violinist Patrisa Tomassini. Recent public piano performances of his music include Ecuador in South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Spectrum NYC, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters in NYC and The Staller Center in Stony Brook NY.

As an artist, Paul is known for creating large instillations, paintings and live performing art pieces. From 2014-2016, he was the artist in residence at Spectrum Gallery in NYC. In 2014, he completed the Elevator Time Machine, a large instillation made of elevator parts that responds to sound. He also wrote and produced a 20 minute live art piece called Static in Movement for piano and video. His acrylic on canvas works have also been presented at Spectrum NYC, The Art Bar, The Gallery at Logos and Ward-Nasse gallery.

I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

WORKSHOP FOR LEARNING TO SING
COMPETENCY: A SOLID FOUNDATION IN THE BASICS OF SINGING
OBJECTIVE: Students will learn 5 Basic Components of Singing and demonstrate via public (by choice) performance; at the end of course.
1. Pitch
2. Rhythm
3. Breath
4. Voice
5. Diction
Pitch
Tone is the use of pitch in language to distinguish words. All languages use intonation to express emphasis, contrast, emotion, or other such nuances.
Pitch refers to the notes and sounds that we hear when someone sings, and it determines if the song is going to sound great or not. The singer will have to hit various pitches in a song with a relative amount of accuracy in order to be in tune with the overall music accompaniment and harmonies.
RHYTHM
Every song has a certain beat, and it is essential that we keep to the basic rhythm of the song, or else we might find that we are constantly trying to catch up with the lyrics or always lagging behind. Rhythm also determines the groove of the song, and this is what gets us on our feet and dancing when we listen to upbeat or fast tempo songs.
A great sense of rhythm begins with learning to recognize various beat duration, to vocalize notes with different beats, as well as to be able to keep to the basic tempo of a song.
BREATH CONTROL
Breathing is an essential component of singing, and is what most singing instructors would introduce to students during their first lesson for singing. It is also what most people would want to learn about and also ask questions about.
Breathing is a natural process, and it is not difficult to achieve better breath control for singing. A great breath foundation is needed for singing!
VOICE
To produce great sounds when singing it is essential to adopt beneficial singing habits in order to produce sounds that are more relaxed and healthy.
DICTION
Learning how to produce sound with our voice is not enough. We still need to shape our voice, and form words in a language that our audience will understand.
This is why diction is also one of the vital basics of singing, because it determines whether our audience understands what we are singing, and whether we are able to connect with them through our song. Diction is also a key factor towards hitting the correct pitches, especially for the high notes, and this will be explained in detail.

COURSE OUTLINE:
Lesson 1 PITCH
How to avoid the most common singing mistakes that prevent singers from producing a clean and professional vocal tone.
Objective: Students will learn warm up exercises that strengthen vocal cords and loosen the muscles needed to produce a professional sound./ the importance of singing ‘scales’ to achieve this objective.
Lesson 2 RHYTHM
Rhythms often used in various standard songs.
Objective: Students will listen and learn to identify rhythms used in songs. CD player provided.
Students will learn to tap out the various types of rhythm.
Students will sing a favorite song; using rhythms learned in class.
Lesson 3 BREATH
For the purpose of voice projection, students will learn to breath more from the diaphragm, the muscles beneath the ribcage, as well as the abdominal muscles.
Objective: Students will learn vital techniques to create a connected voice blending head, chest and diaphragm.
Lesson 5 DICTION
How to use the emotions, enunciation and clarity.
Objective: Students will learn to sing a favorite song with focus on elements of singing.
Lesson 6 Review of previous 5 lessons.
Lesson 7 Group/Individual Performances
Objective: Students will show confidence in employing elements from training.
Lessons 8/9/10 Rehearsal for recital TBA
*Each lesson to begin with a brief review of previous. Copies of previous lessons/homework assignments to be distributed at each meeting

I love showing off my new and improved voice.

When I started with Jennifer my throat hurt and was sore when I sing.By my third lesson no pain ,soreness. I sing in the Times Square Church Choir ,now my voice is amazing, I can sing high notes and don't have to panic about my voice. Great voice teacher, with an amazing voice and technique

I took voice lessons with Jen in high school and college, and always had a positive experience. I started when I was at LaGuardia High School, and the singing lessons weren't enough at school. Although I do mostly musical theater now, I had to study both opera and lyrical music in high school and college, and Jen was able to coach me on songs I needed to have ready for exams and juries. However, most of our sessions were singing lessons (not coaching). A great perk was that she gave me recordings of our lessons which I could listen to later with comments from her, and that I could practice along with. She has a massive voice, and taught me a lot of technical skills about projecting and sustaining my breath.

I've found that some teachers have been out of the loop of performing and singing professionally for so long, that they forget what it's like to be the student taking lessons. But Jen is still involved in the business, so she's familiar with what does and doesn't work in a lesson. She's also really nice, which is always a pleasure.

Plus, if you get lucky, her partner might be available to accompany the lesson at the end so you can sing it full-out to her, like a real audition, or jury.

Hi! My name is Jennifer Hines and I grew up in Long Beach but I have lived in Manhattan for a while. I am excited to come back and even more excited to get to know some love story sometimes those of you who want to add music into their lives , no matter where your dreams may take you. how to teach technique they learned habits that are extremely difficult to get rid of. I teach many children presently from the ages of five through 12, some who have had lessons at most you have not, and when you teach very young children it is important to teach in a way that is fun and yet they learn what feels right and what doesn't The real local and physical exercises that I learned from my teacher at Juilliard so that while you are not going into extreme detail and boring then they are having fun and their bodies are learning the correct way to sing. I try my best to make my lessons fun but I also take teaching very seriously and I will give my all no matter what age the person is or if they want to do this in life. At the first lesson I always take half of it to listening to my student saying just to get an idea of where they are at, and then I like to sit down with them or if they are young I like to have their parent there so we can discuss what their wishes are And what and how they want to learn. Dee is a great teacher! She's been teaching piano to two sisters I babysit for, for over a year (current ages are 10 and 12). She got them back into enjoying piano after other teachers had bored them to death with drills, scales, and songs they hated.
Dee keeps the lessons fun with current music but is also great at instilling the foundation for reading music, playing chords, etc. She is talented, cool, and I fully recommend her as teacher for any age child or adult!

Corinne was a wonderful teacher! She was very professional and structured her lessons with clarity and rigor. She gave me detailed feedback and the vocal exercises she recommended were always helpful and tailored to the areas in which I needed to improve. If I didn't get something immediately, she wouldn't give up but lead me through a series of exercises until my vocal tone was satisfactory. No matter how busy or tired she was, she would conduct each lesson with the same amount of attention and energy. She's friendly and understanding, great to talk to and easy to get along with. I definitely recommend her as a teacher!

Corinne is an excellent teacher! I have had the pleasure of watching her teach at NYU when she was obtaining her degree in vocal pedagogy. While observing her lesson, I found her to be thorough and compassionate. She is a great communicator and makes sure the student understands all that is asked of them. Her knowledge of voice is top notch and I highly recommend her as an instructor of voice.

I've always had a love for music. I've been teaching music in the classroom and privately for 10 years. I have a Master's Degree in Music Education and am a Level 2 James Hill Ukulele Initiative certified teacher.

I'm a father 4, and have been married for 12 years.

I teach guitar, piano, bass, and singing, but my real passion is the ukulele. I believe it's the best instrument for beginners and can really stand well on it's own, unlike the traditional thought of ukulele being a toy.

When I teach, I put the student first and always make the students goals my own. I push for more, but always gently encourage to build off of successes to achieve mastery.

Abe is patient and offers a lot of encouragement. He sees the improvement in me and always keeps me focused on what I'm getting right. Still, he keeps pushing without letting me become self-satisfied. I tried to learn guitar some years ago, but got nowhere and gave up. I'm really glad that I found Abe, an accomplished musician, and a very talented teacher. I'm amazed at my progress, and I owe alot to him. He's excellent.

I am a professional operatic soprano who has performed leading roles with the San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Pacific Opera Project and so many more. I recently relocated to NYC from LA, so my rates are on the low side as I build a new studio. I specialize in helping students relieve vocal tension and pressure, as well as teaching proper breath support and Bel Canto technique. During my training as an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera, I performed everything from Sondheim to Wagner, and I firmly believe that with good technique, you can easily sing in any style, as I often do. I can work with any age of student, and I am excellent at balancing professionalism with accessibility. Marina is a natural teacher. She loves to share what she has learned about music and singing. She has a gift for sight reading, and memorizing, which she can do almost always at first read. Everyone in her studio has mutual respect, including her. She has been my student, but now, she is my teacher. With an open mind, she welcomes the chance to learn from others, including her students. She is highly qualified, with a BA in Music from California State University Long Beach, a Performing Arts degree from University of Southern California, a summer with Music Academy of the West, as well as the Merola and Adler programs with San Francisco Opera. An excellent performer, she gives 100% to all her roles, no matter how small, and helps other cast members and crew whenever she can. You will be very pleased at your progress, when you work with her.

Marina was the perfect teacher for my shy sixteen year old who loves to sing but had terrible stage fright! She really brought her out of her shell and made her feel comfortable, AND she'll be singing the lead in Little Shop of Horrors at school this fall!!!!! We are sad to see her go to New York and we miss her but know she had to follow her career. We love Marina!

Each person has their own unique voice. It's beautiful in a way that no one can mimic. Whether singing classical music or pop I strive help my students find their own voice. With 5 years of private voice lesson experience I have had experience exploring many genres. Like many musicians I have been performing since I was a child. Through the years I have gained experience in a variety of styles of music. From classical to jazz, from country to pop, each style of music has a different twang, but each needs to be approached by a solid technique.
My voice students can expect to gain a solid foundation of proper technique. With that understanding they will be able to approach any style of music and successfully sing it in a healthy way.
