I have experience in harmony and counterpoint from the renaissance to the present time, and can work together with you on ear training exercises as well.

I earned a 5 on all sections of the AP Music Theory Test, and have taken all required undergraduate and graduate music theory courses at the University of Southern California and the Juilliard School, respectively.

About Saad

Saad is a composer of orchestral, chamber, vocal, and electroacoustic music who achieves a “remarkable fusion of idioms” (New York Times), most notably in his work exploring the disparate qualities inherent in Western art music and Middle Eastern musical tradition. His music delves into that relati

I started with Saad at a music camp upstate I was attending and of which he was composition faculty. Having taken plenty of music theory in the past but no formal composition, I didn’t know what to expect. First off, Saad’s manner couldn’t have been more calming or inviting from the very beginning, and that really built a great rapport between us and allowed me to do my best work. Secondly, based on my accounts of my past training, it took little time for Saad to identify what were my strengths and what we needed to study in order to ensure my best compositional outputs. We studied invertible counterpoint, a complex subject fundamental to nearly all forms of advanced classical counterpoint. Saad made the subject really approachable through intricate but understandable explanations of different concepts and provided really illustrative examples of each concept. Even a year after those several weeks of study, in which I have hardly written nearly the number of contrapuntal exercises as I did in the weeks during and after Saad’s tutelage, I still find canon and fugue writing to be doable and even fun, testament to how I was able to hold on to Saad’s teachings even long after working with him. I couldn’t recommend Saad’s abilities and qualities higher to anyone wishing to take composition lessons, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that he is an accomplished, experienced, fascinating, and highly-sought-after composer in his own right. Even after working with dozens of different teachers in different musical disciplines, I have found my studies with Saad to be among the absolute most rewarding.

Saad was able to guide me into directions in my compositions I wouldn’t have thought would be possible otherwise. I recommend him highly as he pushed me to work as hard as I could on my pieces, while at the same time highlighting pertinent contemporary repertoire in our lessons.

Such a patient knowledgeable tutor who really cares about his students’ progress and goes above and beyond to nurture their musical growth

Even though I am a novice, she taught me from reading notes to how to appreciate music by explaining very well. But I had to do what I had to do, HW and practice!!!

I will strongly recommend her to anyone.

Honestly, Gina was a strict teacher and great teacher at the same time. I had to practice a lot, but it was really rewarding experience. She is very patient and guided me to understand how profound classical piano is. My playing technique improved significantly.

I would strongly recommend Gina to anyone who wants to improve!

I have found that many people have been confused before my music theory books and lessons. I have had great luck using my approaches in making learning music theory fun and accessible. I also find that it is very helpful to not bite off everything at once. We learn the music theory that we can use and apply it taking it out of the just theoretical to actually have fun playing with it.

About Tara

I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. Recently graduated from Juilliard, I've been teaching violin and viola for five years, and welcome students of all levels and ages. My background is firmly classical, but additionally I also love fiddle music and give students songs from many genres to learn, arranging upon request. I'm currently a doctoral student at USC, and I work part-time locally as a violinist in the YMF Debut Orchestra. I am also glad to help students with recording, video editing and social media.

About Alexander

As a violin teacher, I always aim to set goals for students, to guide students towards them, and to be direct as possible so far as is appropriate. I also try to stay results-oriented throughout the process. Even if not all of a student’s progress is directly attributable to me, the most important

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

I”m patient, engaging, and have a deep love of learning and communicating my passion for music. Even though I’ve performed professionally as a soloist with orchestras, I know what it’s like to be a beginner- I was there just ten years ago!

If you take lessons with me, prepare to see your progress skyrocket. I work together with my students to create objectives that will enthuse them and make them want to practice, and then break those down into micro-goals, so that they are going to see tangible progress every day that they pick up the guitar.

I look forward to hearing from you!

UKULELE is a VERSATILE and FUN instrument with the potential to play any kind of music that you like, not just tin pan alley or kids tunes. I specialize in working with beginners who have no music background but lots of enthusiasm to play.

Learn to read music notation with your ukulele, learn to sing and strum chords so you play music with others to entertain yourself and your friends and family. I encourage participation at local open mics and uke groups for the intermediate students. For more advanced students we embark on a study of complex pieces of music and focus on performance goals.

About Laura

I have been a teacher since 1996 and a uke teacher since 2015, teaching uke to after school groups. I am a member of Houkulele, Houston's Social Ukulele Club. I have attended Uke Teacher Training courses with Kevin Carroll in Austin. I follow and use James Hill's ukulele in the classroom curriculu

Laura, is a wonderful person and a talented musician .
She worked with me to develop a realistic lesson plan that made since and set goals that were achievable. She was always available when I had questions and on time for our lessons, and accommodating when I wasn't able to make a schedule lesson time due to conflicts. Unfortunate I wasn't able to maintain my commitment and had to step away from the online format.

I highly recommend Laura!

"Ellen is awesome. I am a total beginner and perfectionist so I don't tend to do well with learning something new in front of another person. I grow easily frustrated when I don't pick things up quickly and easily and get embarrassed when I make mistakes. Ellen makes the lessons super comfortable for me and I leave having learned something new every time. I have a LONG way to go but I can see where this can lead and plan to stick with it. She knows how to make music and an instrument make sense to someone with no background in music which is very helpful for me. I plan to stick with her for a long time!"

"Glenn is a great teacher, although we've only had 3 lessons so far it's clear that he is very knowledgeable in both the instrument and the teaching technique. It's not enough to know the instrument well, you also have to be able to connect with the student and teach that knowledge. Glenn has both qualities, and I enthusiastically recommend him to anyone considering him as a teacher!"

"Really have enjoyed working with Gregory

It has been a dream of mine to become a friend to my voice and let it delight me. Years ago I took voice lessons and remembered how freeing that experience was. When I found Gregory and started lessons it all came back, the feeling of opening, of expansion, of joy. Gregory has taught me much about my capacity to sing, skills to develop my voice and most importantly hoe to expand out to the world through song. It has been a delight to work work with him over a two year period. He is knowledgable, sensitive and very encouraging."

"I took mandolin lessons from Tara for about a year and a half, and I can't say enough good things about her. I was a complete beginner when I started with her, and now I feel prepared and comfortable when I play at jams. Tara taught me a wide repertoire of tunes. She taught me ways to play different chords, how to move chords, how different players may use different chords in different styles, how to read guitar chords, how to adapt when guitars use capos, and how to simplify or add chords. She has really good insight on how to start improvising and taking breaks. I think she adapts her teaching to use the technique that will help make the concept make sense to you. She is a lot of fun to learn from, and it is super inspiring to watch her play. Tara is an awesome teacher, and I highly recommend her!"
