My international performing career has led me to appear as soloist with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (Austria), the Juilliard Orchestra, the New Amsterdam and Adelphi Symphony Orchestras (both in New York), Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (Ankara, Turkey), Wartburg Community Symphony (Iowa), and the Belarus State Symphony Orchestra in Minsk, while in my native Lithuania I appear regularly with all the major orchestras. I have garnered more than a dozen top prizes in competitions on both sides of the Atlantic, such as Beethoven (Vienna, Austria), Hilton Head (United States), and Maria Canals (Spain) International Piano Competitions.
Among the venues where I have enjoyed performing solo are New York’s Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, Washington, D.C.’s National Gallery, the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Vienna’s Musikverein, New York’s Symphony Space and Adelphi University, Helsinki’s (Finland) Temppeliaukion kirkko, large halls of National Philharmonic Societies of Belarus and Lithuania, and others. I do love to perform chamber music as well, and have played with numerous outstanding instrumentalists and singers.
I have been greatly interested in the piano music by 20th-Century Lithuanian avant-garde composers Vytautas Bacevičius and Jeronimas Kačinskas, and have shared this interest through several critically acclaimed recordings. The British label ‘Toccata Classics’ has issued two volumes in an ongoing series of Bacevičius' piano music (2012 and 2016). In this project, I had a fortune to collaborate with the five-time Grammy-winning producer Judith Sherman and the five-time Grammy-nominated pianist Ursula Oppens. My recording of Vytautas Bacevičius’ piano concertos Nos. 3 and 4, with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the three-time Grammy-nominated conductor Christopher Lyndon-Gee was released by the largest classical music label 'Naxos' in 2015. Jeronimas Kačinskas' piano works appeared in 2013 on another release by 'Toccata Classics'.

Dr. Gabrielius Alekna is a 5 Star piano teacher. He’s very inspiring. He’s an accomplished concert pianist, recording artist, and holds a Doctor of Music from the Julliard School of Music. Despite all of his accomplishments, he teaches with humility and kindness.
He establishes a high quality standard so you could achieve your best. Either by playing a passage or the whole music piece (to your heart’s delight), he demonstrates the complexity and beauty of the music you are working to learn.
He’s very professional. He genuinely regards every person without condescension and wants you to work toward being your best. I’ve taken lessons with him since 2009 and I’ve played pieces that I will never have been able to play without his patience with me. He is generous with his time, helping me to select a new piano on his day off and always finishing a lesson at its natural conclusion (not because the clock says so.)
Above all he’s a real person that you and I could relate with. And, because of that, I not only regard him as my instructor and mentor, but truly a friend.

OTHER LESSON INFORMATION
SINGING: Bel Canto singing technique for the modern singer is taught in private and group classes. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. Students are allowed to choose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student doesn't enjoy the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student. Gain a better tone quality, complete control of your voice, bigger range, more flexibility, and confidence. Learn healthy voice technique, how to fully take care of your own voice so you can sing for the rest of your life (even after lessons), and become a self sufficient performer for life.
ACTING: Stella Adler, Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and Meisner Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera is taught in private and group classes. All students are exposed to each technique and Rachel sees which technique each student responds to the most. Once the student and Rachel are able to identify the technique, Rachel continues to use the terminology of that technique for the remainder of the time the student is in lessons. Students eventually are able to play roles truthfully and realistically, even if the roles are opposite of the student's own personality.
BY THE TIME STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM LESSONS:
1. Gain a lifelong, solid, consistent, and healthy technique that they can always count on in practice and performance.
2. Gain specific technical and personal notes in a notebook and/or computer file that is organized and always accessible for review.
3. Gain artistry, performance skills, and a strong voice that will look/sound authentic; Singers will sound appropriate to whatever style of music they are singing. (No fake sound or look.) Actors will just be in the moment and truthful whether they are on stage or in front of the camera.

CANCELLATION: 48 hour lesson cancellation policy and emergencies (determined by Rachel) are handled on a case by case basis. All students (or their parents/guardian if under 18) who have scheduled vacations and other activities (meetings, parties, school shows, concerts, rehearsals...etc) that interfere with the student’s regularly scheduled lesson time, need to contact Rachel as soon as the vacation/other activity is scheduled but no later than two weeks in advanced before their missed regularly scheduled lesson to prevent from forfeiting the lesson.
MAKE-UPS: Make-Up lessons will be scheduled if time allows. No Make-Up lesson or class will be given to ‘no shows’ or “late cancellation”, and no extra time to extend their lesson will be given to students who are late to their lesson or class. If there is ever a time Rachel is running late, extra time will be given to make the lesson a full 60 minutes. If Rachel needs to reschedule, a Make-Up lesson will be scheduled as close to the same week as possible. Make-Up lessons are scheduled at Rachel’s discretion.
ONLINE LESSONS FOR IN-PERSON LESSON CLIENTS: In the event that the student is sick but still would like their lesson, an online lesson will be scheduled instead. Students can NOT come to their in person lesson sick, coughing, sneezing, with a runny nose, cold, flu, allergies, fever, etc. (This is to make sure no germs will be spread).
An online lesson will also be scheduled if there is bad weather, if a student is having car trouble, or any other reason for the student not being able to physically get to Rachel’s private studio during their normally scheduled lesson time. Online lessons are conducted through Classroom, FaceTime, Google, Hangouts, or Skype.
SCHEDULE: Lessons are weekly, on the same time/day of the week unless we have rescheduled or we have discussed in writing another lesson plan. If the student’s lesson falls on a holiday, we will either reschedule or if no other day is available, resume the following week.
LATENESS: If a student is going to be late they need to contact Rachel as soon as possible, to let her know they will be late. Lessons will end on time unless she is able to extend the lesson due to a late student or her schedule allows for it though please understand, Rachel would be extending a courtesy and would not be obligated to do so. If on the rare occasion Rachel is running late, she will always make up the time.
SITTING IN: Parents/Guardians are ONLY permitted to stay for the first lesson and are NOT permitted to sit in for any other lesson/class unless invited. This is to promote good/strong teacher-student relationship quickly and easily. Also, many times students feel more comfortable when their parents/guardians leave. Of course there will be times when the parent will be invited back in at the end of some of the lesson to showcase progress.
COMMUNICATION: Due to Rachel's normally scheduling students one right after another without breaks, being in the recording studio, performing, or being on set, the best way to contact her is through text AND email. Please ALWAYS leave messages when calling Rachel with your name, contact info, AND the reason you are calling. Please be specific. Thank you!

Overall, very impressed. She is direct and doesn't tell you something you want to hear. Her evaluation process is well rounded and planned. She puts together a great curriculum to know what to expect in the coming lessons. Very easy going person and makes you feel completely comfortable at the initial lessons.
New York based flutist, Kelley, has performed in notable New York venues including 54 Below, Joe's Pub, and Birdland. She has also performed throughout the United States as well as in South Korea, Hong Kong, Italy and Southeast Asia. Ms. B. received her second Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance at Manhattan School of Music studying with Dr. Tara O’Connor. I am a concert pianist with a passion for teaching. From a boarding arts secondary school to prestigious conservatories in both the US and Europe, I have honed my craft, and developed a love for sharing my passion with others. I studied with some of the best teachers in the world at Eastman, the Yale School of Music, the Paris Conservatoire, and the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, in addition to having attended some of the greatest festivals in the world to study with other great pianists and pedagogues. Teaching has always come naturally to me and has felt like a natural extension of my abilities as a performer. I believe it is a necessity to spread what I have learned through teaching.
I started playing piano when I was 6 years old and before 5th grade I was accepted into the prep program at Mannes The New School of Music. I studied piano and music there until I graduated my senior year of high school. Now I am in the middle of finishing my bachelors degree as a Music Education major from William Paterson University with a concentration in classical piano. My relationship with my teachers is what inspired me to become a music teacher myself and my passion for music comes from teaching and playing with others. I think that anyone can play music and everyone should have the chance to.
In 2019, Isabel, a NYC-based pianist, won two international competitions in China: the ROXE MTSY International Music Competition in Xian and BIMFA Solo Piano Competition in Beijing. She’s also been a prize winner in the International Young Artist Competition in D.C., the Fite Family Piano Competition, Sigma Alpha Iota Competition, K.C. Musical Club Competition, and KMTA Collegiate Auditions. She’s played as a soloist with the Orquesta de la Universidad de Alicante of Spain, and the Heritage Philharmonic Orchestra of Missouri. She’s performed at a variety of international concert venues, including Teatro Pavone of Perugia, Italy; Xian Concert Hall in Xian, China; RUC Concert Hall in Beijing, China; Opera America and The International House in NYC; Lied Center in Lawrence, Kansas, among others.
