My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and ...

I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

The piano is often referred to as the instrument every musician should start off learning. The way it is laid out makes it very easy to see how music works and fits together. In lessons, we'll be sure to cover all the basics of technique, rhythm, harmony and melody and even theory to ensure a solid foundation to build upon. I tend to teach these concepts through the use of various etude/method books as well as listening exercises to ensure a well rounded approach to learning in order to become a more well rounded musician.

About Bill
Bill is multi-instrumentalist, jazz musician, composer, arranger and educator. He developed a strong connection to music early in life through some family tradition, encouraging parents and many inspiring and influential teachers. He has gone on to perform alongside a number of noteworthy artists and ensembles and has toured extensively overseas and throughout North America.

His love for music came to life though performances with several ensembles in public school, regional big bands and his own jazz saxophone quartet. He is a graduate of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music's Jazz Studies program and has recently become a graduate of New Jersey City University's M.M. Multiple Woodwind Performance program.

Following two years performing abroad on cruise ships and the national tour of Young Frankenstein: The Musical, he was dr
awn back to New York City. Performing regularly on piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and all saxophones, he is proving to be valued asset in the NYC music scene.

Bill performs regularly with his group, Bill Todd and the Sixth Generation, while also working as a Broadway pit musician, a sideman and a private music teacher.

Every student is unique, therefore, lessons are designed to fit the student individually. My teaching style is molded to satisfy each students wants and needs. I also like to focus on developing proper playing habits. I see it as my job to help my students understand and develop the proper techniques to eliminate bad habits in order for them to be the best they can be on their instrument. Lessons are about having fun making music, learning, and improving.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Chairs, music stands and keyboard for harmonic discussions.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to bring their own music notebook and their own instrument. They may also need to purchase their own lesson books when the time comes.

*** Specialties ***
I can help my students learn how to play in a variety of styles ranging from classical (solos, chamber music, etudes, etc.) to jazz (improvisation, harmony, etc.). Whether they're working on a song to play at school, a NYSSMA or All County solo, or just learning for fun, I will help them play to the best of their ability.

Bill is a great teacher! Very patient and fun, he strikes a great balance of honing skills without practice seeming rote. He really invests in his students and provides a lot of encouragement while still challenging me. I've made great strides thanks to Bill, and I'd definitely recommend him as an instructor.

I bring to teaching piano an unrivalled Juilliard education, international performing and recording career, and 18 years of experience teaching students of various levels. In teaching, I see myself as my students' partner dedicated to helping them realize their full potential as budding musicians and performers. I am encouraging, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible in teaching adults and children of all levels. I love finding the right individual approach with each of my students, so that they stay motivated and inspired while growing in their musical understanding and mastery.

I strongly believe that a chief tool enabling progress in all aspects of musicianship is focused listening, and see my role as a teacher to guide students in developing power and sensitivity of aural perception through concrete steps and activities. I'm deliberate in selecting and assigning a repertoire that challenges students with appropriate techniques and allows them to develop as pianists and ...

About Gabrielius
Why settle for piano lessons with a guitarist who also teaches drums and viola? This being NYC, start or continue your piano lessons with an actively performing and recording classical pianist with Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the Juilliard School and prizes in top international competitions. As a teacher, I am encouraging, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible in teaching adults and children of all levels. I love finding the right individual approach with each of my students, so that I can effectively help them reach their full potential, whether in their first steps in understanding and making music, or in preparation for performances/auditions. My teaching experience includes a teaching fellowship at Juilliard (2002-2004), private lessons since 2000, extensive master classes in US and abroad, and a university-level v
isiting professorship in my native Lithuania (2011-2016).

My international performing career has led me to appear as soloist with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (Austria), the Juilliard Orchestra, the New Amsterdam and Adelphi Symphony Orchestras (both in New York), Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (Ankara, Turkey), Wartburg Community Symphony (Iowa), and the Belarus State Symphony Orchestra in Minsk, while in my native Lithuania I appear regularly with all the major orchestras. I have garnered more than a dozen top prizes in competitions on both sides of the Atlantic, such as Beethoven (Vienna, Austria), Hilton Head (United States), and Maria Canals (Spain) International Piano Competitions.

Among the venues where I have enjoyed performing solo are New York’s Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, Washington, D.C.’s National Gallery, the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Vienna’s Musikverein, New York’s Symphony Space and Adelphi University, Helsinki’s (Finland) Temppeliaukion kirkko, large halls of National Philharmonic Societies of Belarus and Lithuania, and others. I do love to perform chamber music as well, and have played with numerous outstanding instrumentalists and singers.

I have been greatly interested in the piano music by 20th-Century Lithuanian avant-garde composers Vytautas Bacevičius and Jeronimas Kačinskas, and have shared this interest through several critically acclaimed recordings. The British label ‘Toccata Classics’ has issued two volumes in an ongoing series of Bacevičius' piano music (2012 and 2016). In this project, I had a fortune to collaborate with the five-time Grammy-winning producer Judith Sherman and the five-time Grammy-nominated pianist Ursula Oppens. My recording of Vytautas Bacevičius’ piano concertos Nos. 3 and 4, with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the three-time Grammy-nominated conductor Christopher Lyndon-Gee was released by the largest classical music label 'Naxos' in 2015. Jeronimas Kačinskas' piano works appeared in 2013 on another release by 'Toccata Classics'.

I am looking forward to welcoming you in my studio!

Dr. Gabrielius Alekna is a 5 Star piano teacher. He’s very inspiring. He’s an accomplished concert pianist, recording artist, and holds a Doctor of Music from the Julliard School of Music. Despite all of his accomplishments, he teaches with humility and kindness.

He establishes a high quality standard so you could achieve your best. Either by playing a passage or the whole music piece (to your heart’s delight), he demonstrates the complexity and beauty of the music you are working to learn.

He’s very professional. He genuinely regards every person without condescension and wants you to work toward being your best. I’ve taken lessons with him since 2009 and I’ve played pieces that I will never have been able to play without his patience with me. He is generous with his time, helping me to select a new piano on his day off and always finishing a lesson at its natural conclusion (not because the clock says so.)

Above all he’s a real person that you and I could relate with. And, because of that, I not only regard him as my instructor and mentor, but truly a friend.

I have been studying piano with professor Gabrielius Alekna in Vytautas Magnus University's Music Academy (Lithuania) for three years. Now we continue our lessons online and I am more than pleased to work with him - he is an amazing pianist, caring teacher and one of the most wonderful people that I've ever met. Over this time Gabrielius taught me to hear and understand (classical) music in new and very subtle ways, encouraged me to take challenging music pieces and successfully helped understand, learn and perform them. With Gabrielius' lessons and help I've won national and international piano solo and accompanists competitions, discovered new ways of interpretating music in piano duet and chamber music ensemble. Gabrielius' teaching distinguishes itself by calm and professional approach, which makes the learning process seem rather easy and pleasant than challenging or requiring much effort. The methods used by Gabrielius help achieve excellent quality in one's playing and create the feeling of freedom, which makes the music flow...

There are as many methods of teaching piano as there are teachers.
I like to borrow ideas from others as well as offering my unique approach so there is a blend of traditional and non-traditional. I want each student to be able to read music, play by ear, be familiar with chord structure and improvisation and all the wonderful things musicianship can bring but most of all, I want my students to truly enjoy playing the piano and I do believe that process at least as important as product.

About Marie-France
I have taught piano and voice most of my adult life. Early on I learned the need to adapt my teaching style to the uniqueness of each student, especially those whose perceptions differ widely from the general populace. I love what I do, helping each student discover and nurture their abilities, no matter what age the student may be.

The Holistic Piano method is especially effective with my Autism-spectrum students, a segment of the population I find particularly rewarding to teach.

The following is a quote from ex-student Karena Krull, author of "Drama Made Easy", and "Rummy Roots."

“Her greatest strength is her ability to find the right direction for each individual. This ability to adapt to the student's needs lends to individual success for student and avoids their frustration. If her current method or communication is
n't creating success for a student she will quickly change to another till she finds the right words or method to enable the student to succeed with the least amount of frustration.”

*** Lesson Details ***
I draw on a wide range of materials in The Holistic Piano (and voice) method. The curriculum may be color-based or number-based, we might focus on chord building or sight-reading, or Songwriting, depending on the student's need and desire.

*** Studio Equipment ***Private Music studio with glass door so waiting parents can see what's going on (though they can also be in the studio if they feel more comfortable.) I have a grand piano, 1 keyboard, and a variety of other instrument including hand drums, chimes, boomwackers, a chimealong and autoharp to enhance learning experience.

*** Specialties ***
Because each student is an individual, I approach teaching like a coach, custom designing a course of study for each student to meet their individual needs.

I enjoyed my 2 sessions with Marie, and from work she was a 35 min commute vs 90 mins to NYC.
With her I felt engaged, she was prepared, professional, stayed on topic and gave relevant critiques and feedback.
At the end of my second lesson she offered to email me a list of acting/improv classes in NYC which she did.
Anyway, I am glad that I actually learned something and got to do exercises and not leave with the feeling that i wasted my money and most importantly my time.

I like to give students an opportunity to play a wide variety of music: classical, folk, jazz, ragtime, show tunes, popular. It is most essential that basic skills be learned: note reading, scales, arpeggios, chords, technique. At every lesson, scales, chords, and arpeggios are reviewed. All major and minor keys are taught. NYSSMA preparation for auditions are encouraged, but not required.
I like to tailor the lessons to the needs and wishes of the student, to better motivate learning.

About Ada
I am a certified public school music teacher with a bachelors degree in music and a masters degree in music education with a concentration in piano. I have successfully prepared students for NYSSMA auditions for many years.
My philosophy of teaching is to fit the lessons to the student, always working on improving musical knowledge and skills. I like to use a combination of classical, folk, and popular music to keep the student's interest. Scales, arpeggios, and chords are introduced early and are an integral part of every assignment. I have held annual recitals to hone student's performance skills.
As a member of Music Teachers National Association, National Association for Music Education, and Suffolk Piano Teachers Foundation, I learn new ways to teach, as well as giving my students more opportunities to perform.
I enjoy w
orking with students of all ages, to see them grow musically and become able to learn the skills necessary for them to play whatever they wish.

I have been teaching piano for over 40 years, full-time for the past 15. Besides the actual repertoire, technique and theory are always included in my lessons because they are essential. Sight reading and ear training are also included in some lessons.

I stress accuracy in playing and attention to details! I also teach my students HOW to practice. Slow, accurate practice is the answer. Practicing takes patience!

Please note: Home lessons must be at a location that I can get to easily with public transportation. I do not have a car.

About Emil
I started to study the piano at the age of seven with Hrant Minassian in my hometown of Island Park, New York. During high school I continued my studies with Jack Chaikin , a graduate of the Juilliard School. I attended Hofstra University where I received a B.A. in Music in 1979. At Hofstra, my piano teachers were Blanche Abram and Morton Estrin.

After graduating from Hofstra, I moved into Manhattan and continued my piano studies with Elena Wolkonsky at the Juilliard School. I also took a few lessons from Adam Aleksander, concert pianist, in Miami. So all together, I took lessons for 20 years with six different teachers!

I started teaching piano when I was 18 years old and taught all throughout college. After enjoying a successful career in data processing for 22 years, I decided to go back to teaching piano in 2003.

I thoro
ughly enjoy what I am doing. It's a pleasure to pass on to my students everything that my great teachers taught me.

Emil was the teacher I was looking for. I have tried to learn piano on my own for a while now, but most of the time it became overwhelming. I wasn't sure I was going in the right direction, or if I was learning what I should know in the right order. So far, what Emil had done for me was to take what I've known already and add much more to it. He also has started to correct some bad habits I became accustomed to, which I would have never picked up on my own. He's very knowledgeable, and ties in music theory during the lesson. He's down to earth, throws in some jokes to lighten the mood, and create an enjoyable learning experience.

I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical piano for 20 years. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

About Xiao
I am a professional singer, pianist, songwriter. I graduated from Manhattan School of Music, specifically voice.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

Since 2008 my piano studio has distinguished reputation among music experts and students due to the unique style and methods of teaching. I encourage students to explore music far beyond learning to read notes, developing their skills to listen for nuances in sound and making sure that playing piano is fun and enjoyable. I provide a program which is the most suitable for each individual student. I teach students to different aspects of playing piano with the technical and mental challenges of making piano sing.
