I make drumming understandable to someone who has not yet learned the craft. I will give you a series of tests to see what level your natural skill for rhythm is at.

We will work on getting you playing beats from day one. Whatever music you're into we will work on getting you playing that type of music. In addition, I will teach a break down of the basics and what has worked best for me.

Essentially I will implement the rudiments necessary to becoming a well-rounded beat maker. Depending on where you're at with your level of playing I will also play guitar to your drum beats so you're able to really enjoy the playing experience.

Luther stays where I’m at and then helps me go the next step. That is useful for consistent gradual progress without the frustrations of moving either too slow or too fast (I am a beginning tenor saxophone player). Nice interpersonal style, patient and easy going, while methodical.

I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.

I received the “Outstanding Youth Advocate” award from Berklee College of Music's Community Affairs Dept. in 2014 for teaching at the Boys&Girls Club in Allston, MA. I perform a lot around the northeast U.S., spanning a diverse spectrum of styles.

Josh is an awesome teacher. He is patient and supportive and always comes up with ways to connect me to the concept he’s teaching. I asked to learn drums “the right way” so we spend a ton of time on fundamental exercises that i suspect are boring for him but he never shows it. Our son has never played in a marching band before but is interested in playing in the marching band when he attends college in July so we were specifically looking for an instructor who had marching band experience to teach our son since he's never participated in the marching band in high school. We saw Mr. Stewart's profile and decided to have him work with our son. That was the BEST decision that we could have ever made. We have been nothing but impressed with Mr. Stewart. He definitely has the gift of teaching and he is very patient, knowledgeable, and he challenges our son to get better by giving him homework after each session. Our son absolutely LOVES Mr. Stewart and he is always excited for each lesson and to practice what Mr. Stewart has taught him. Our son went from not playing in the marching band at all in high school to making his college band and receiving a scholarship all thanks to Mr. Stewart.
