learn beginning belly dance moves, choreography and improv.

About Chrystie
WELCOME DANCERS!

Meet your dance instructor. I have my bachelors degree from Chapman University in Theatre & Dance. My training includes Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Folk Dance, Dance History, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, Improv, and Kinesiology, among other dance-related subjects.

I grew up in a small Illinois town. Lessons were few and far between, so I would copy dancing off of movies and videos in order to perform at local dances, or for other community events. As a youth, I took country line dancing classes. Always drawn to anything involving dance and movement, I auditioned and performed with a Disney Showcase Troupe. By high school, I was choreographing for the Show Choir, as well as, performing in theatrical productions, including the musical “The Wizard of Oz”.

Before graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Theatre & Danc
e from Chapman University in Orange, California, I continued my study of many dance styles & techniques such as: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Dunham Technique, yoga/stretch, Dance Business & History. From 1996-2001 I performed a variety of dancing and singing roles in showcases and events such as “American Celebration” and “The Story of Rock n’ Roll”. While studying at Chapman, I accepted a position as historian, and eventually, vice president of the performing arts society (PASC).

When I wasn’t onstage, I could be found backstage working lights, sound, costuming, or stage management. I searched out other educational opportunities at Cypress College and the Taggart International School where I studied West African dance and Russian Ballet Technique. After performing a liturgical dance performance for my graduation ceremony, I toured the United States and a portion of Canada, researching dance around the world. This eventually led me to Jacmel, Haiti, where I studied cultural and social dances of the local people. After that I took up Bellydance and studied folk dancing in Chicago, Illinois.

Since 2001, I have taught classes for all ages from infants to adults. I have also studied child development and have a special love for bringing an adoration of the arts to the youngest artists in our communities. It is imperative that all my teachings highlight body positivity and the belief that everyone can dance. A life-long learner and dance aficionado, I continue my dance studies in Ballroom, Baroque Dance, and Scottish Country Dance. My influences include Isadora Duncan, Katherine Dunham, Sean Greene & Misty Copeland. I love being a part of the DA Dance Family.

My little just started dancing because her big sister dances. She is a shy one but warmed up to Miss Chrystie and loves tapping with her. She plays music that she loves and is helping her learn how to tap dance in a fun way!

Experienced in Bellydance for over 15 years and performing for over 10 years has made my passion for dance even more stronger. I've trained with top professionals in the bellydance world such as Zoe Jake's and Rachel Brice. I love to help students find their own dance voice and also like to bring a holistic approach to dance. This genre of movement has helped me heal and unlock my sensual self and also unblock blockages that were stored in my body. It's not just bellydance and choreography but a passion and a way of life. And I'd love to share that with you.

About Jenny
Jenny began belly dancing after seeing students dance at her Community College in South Lake Tahoe in 2004. She was captivated by the music and costumes and knew that she wanted to learn. She learned basic movements with teachers Nikki Niebauer and Namira from South Lake Tahoe, Ca.  As time progressed, she began to discover the different styles of belly dance. She learned Egyptian style belly dance in San Bernardino, Ca with teacher Judy Acuna. She then moved back up to the Bay Area and began classes in BlackSheep BellyDance format with her teacher Seba (who would go on to found Wildcard Bellydance.) She continued her studies in ITS with Wildcard Bellydance, and performed under their student troop Blackdiamond Bellydance (2007-2009.) She started solo career in 2010 after falling in love with tribal fusion the same way so many dancers have
- after watching a Rachel Brice video. She started taking many workshops with renowned bellydancers such as Rachel Brice, Zoe Jakes, Jill Parker and many others. She took ATS classes at the FatChanceBellyDance studio to learn more about this iconic dance form that was born there, and from which so many tribal fusion forms had their inception. In 2011 she intensively studied in Costa Rica at Rachel Brice’s Bellydance retreat. She continued to perform solo until she reunited with the BlackSheep BellyDance format in 2013, studying with its Creator, Kajira Djoumahna.
Jenny is so happy to have studied with and performed with Kajira that she wanted to spread her love for this dance format. She decided to get certified to teach at Tribal Fest 2014. She holds levels 1-3 certification to teach Kajira Djoumahna’s BlackSheep BellyDance format. She was invited by Kajira herself to become a Member of BSBD in November 2014. She thanks Kajira for all the love she spreads and for being a great supporter in Jenny’s dance career. She continues to learn all styles of dance in order to be a well rounded Fusion Dancer. Jenny Rivero has had the pleasure of performing with San Francisco band “Diego’s Umbrella” from 2010-2013. She has also performed live with well renowned Dj Govinda in L.A on October 2013, Jenny won 1st place New Talent Category at North Bay’s Bellydance Bazaars Bellydance Competition. Last but not least on the Summer of 2014, Jenny performed as part of the Tribal Fusion cast in Jillina Carlano’s world class production, Bellydance Evolution: Alice in Wonderland at the Ford Ampatheater in L.A.
