I am experienced (3 years) in home school tutoring. I mostly work with Florida Virtual School students. I overlook their tests and assignments, and help them with preparations for Discussion Based Assessmemts (DBA). I also help parents with required annual evaluations and how to sign up with home education department. For my tutoring sessions I use skills that include goal-directedness, I teach how to organize learning in small steps and how to set them up; I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make them interested in learning and have fun; I also use self-control skills to teach how to avoid distractions and I show how to use different focusing strategies. I use positive mind set skills to teach how to use failures as learning opportunities.
I have Masters in Education (2018) with specialization in English, Curricul
um and Education; and Masters in Arts (2012) in Teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as a degree in violin performance from Chicago. I studied piano in Chicago for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program. I have taught music for over 24 years using the traditional and Suzuki methods. I am fan of the Essential Elements method and I Can Read Music book for string instruments, and the Alfred's Piano Library for piano. Alfred's piano library can be used for any age as they also have books especially made for adult learners. I also like their music flash cards. For teaching music theory I mostly used Fundamentals of Piano Theory (9 levels) combined with Master Theory (6 levels) books.
I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach Piano competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions. I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs. I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.
*** Lesson Details *** All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary. All my lessons include technique and reading music. I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both. Music theory: I use Master Theory and Fundamentals of Piano Theory books for younger ages, Alfred's music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.
Besides Essential Elements for strings I also use String Tunes and I Can Read Music to add more fun to the lessons as well as support reading music during the lesson. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.
*** Studio Equipment *** I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.
*** Travel Equipment *** The students need to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books, flashcards & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I always bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.
*** Specialties *** I tutor most K-12 subjects and prepare students to take ACT, SAT, GRE tests. Music genres: Classical, traditional, Suzuki, Popular, Celtic, fiddle, Blues
I'm sorry, I cannot handle this Instructor for my children. She wasn't me but she's not quite the people person I expected. Her personality is not a good match for a high school tutor. Unfortunately her English is not good enough. Her accent is entirely too strong. Also she does not know enough Geometry to help my kids.

Ilona is a wonderful teacher. She really tunes in to your level and has a vast knowledge of musical repertoire making lessons very exciting. Anyone lucky enough to get Ilona is going to be star!!she is patient and responsive to questions and a very interesting and fun gal
(you + lessons [with Chris]) x (commitment - difficulty) = better grades in math in no time!
A short history of my experience with music and education:
The first instrument I learned to play was the guitar in 2001.
I played the guitar on the worship team at FBC of Midway in Plant City, FL from 2001 to 2005.
I began teaching private music lessons in 2003.
I played bass guitar in a Christian rock band called of Anastasis from 2003 to 2005.
I played acoustic, electric, and bass guitar on the worship team at Family Worship Center in Lakeland, FL from 2006 to 2012.
I worked as a freelance audio engineer with my in-home recording studio throughout college (and now I just do it for fun).
I played bass and sang background vocals in a worship band called Skyline from 2007 to 2009.
I taught music and trained a student led worship team at Hope Christian Academy from 2009-2010.
I began performing independently from
2009 to present.
I played guitar and sang lead vocals in a Christian Rock Band called A Story Familiar from 2010 to 2012.
From 2010 to 2012, I taught in the Polk County public school system of Florida from 2010 to 2012, where I also worked heavily with students with special needs.
In July of 2012 I moved to Aurora, CO as a volunteer musician to help plant Streams Church.
In January of 2013 I married my beautiful wife.
Upon arriving home from our honeymoon, I was hired as Worship Director for Streams church, and I have worked there since. Some of my responsibilities include developing and executing weekly music set lists, creating charts and sheet music for new songs, and training the worship team in new music.
As for me personally, I love Jesus, my wife, and music. As I'm sure you can tell by my brief history, I do a lot of church service and ministry, if for this for any reason makes you wary, let me assure you: I play a lot more than just church music. As a lover of music, there is not much that I don't enjoy in the world of music, and I've taught most of it. I've taught the young and the not-so-young, and whether you're just beginning to read music, or you're just eager to learn your favorite song, I work closely with you to ensure you achieve the results you desire!
*** Lesson Details *** Four things I focus on: 1. Creating individualized lesson plans for you 2. Teaching you new techniques and polishing old ones 3. Building your confidence 4. Both of us having a fun, rockin' time!
When taking lessons from me, students can expect an environment that is a balance between being strict and laid back.Music is something that must be learned, and as such, it must also be practiced week-to-week in between lessons. I consider myself strict because I'll hold you accountable to doing your best to learn the best. Despite holding you accountable, I think the overall mood of the learning environment is laid back; we'll have a lot of fun learning music. I make sure that we'll be learning at your pace, but keep in mind, this doesn't mean I won't push you to be your best! My teaching experience has taught me one thing: everyone is different. That being the case, I create lesson plans that are unique to you. Where you will be in a month, six months, a year, largely depends on your commitment to learn, but I'll promise you this: all of my efforts will be utilized to maximize your potentiality.
*** Attendance Policy *** I am very flexible with attendance, but I do require a one hour notice that you will not be at the lesson. If a one hour notice is not given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" resulting in payment from your TakeLessons account for the missed lesson.
If you are simply running late, please be sure to let me know-I try to be as flexible as possible, but if the student is over 15 minutes late, I typically mark this lesson as "missed" as well.
*** Studio Equipment *** I provide the following equipment for in-studio lessons: Guitar amplifier Bass amplifier Drum Set Computer iPad Recording equipment Music stand Seating area for parents/guardians to sit/listen in on the lesson
*** Travel Equipment *** When offering in-home lessons, I provide the following when traveling for in-home lessons: iPad For in-home lessons, I expect students to have whatever equipment is necessary for learning their instrument of interest (This typically includes at least the student's instrument and a music stand, but may also include a metronome, tuner, etc.).
*** Specialties *** Rock, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Praise/Worship, Indie

We've only had 2 lessons so far and he is great! He is encouraging, polite, flexible, kind and takes the extra time if needed. He definitely knows how to teach and knows the natural developmental progression to build the foundation for a beginner and explains what the next goals she'll be working towards. He even learned a Justin Bieber song just to make my kid happy. Lol!
I have taught over 30 math students at all levels, elementary through high school and college, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus and standardized test math (ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, ASVAB, GED).

After speaking to multiple tutoring companies, we discovered Matthew. Matthew was very professional and made my son feel comfortable. They had a total of 5 tutoring sessions covering Math, English, Science and Reading. My son took the ACT after his tutoring sessions and scored a 23. We were very pleased with the progress our son made by going from an ACT score of 19 to 23 after only 5 sessions with Matthew. I would highly recommend Matthew J. Horwich to anyone needing tutoring.

Matthew explained his approach to coaching and the plan so we were able to make an educated choice on the best tutor for our son. Matthew was responsive, organized and worked very well with our son. He communicated directly with our son and cc:ed me so that I was aware of the plan and f/u. His scores did improve on the SAT and we were pleased with the investment.

Matt has been awesome for my student. His math skills have improved greatly, and his writing has come from illegible to what can now be described as neat and readable. Matt has been very patient and deliberate with our son and has taken the time to really explain things to Jake in a way he can understand. We would recommend this tutor to any parent looking for a tutor for their grammar school student! Matt is also reliable and prompt and showed up when expected which was helpful with our very busy schedules.
I have been a classroom teacher for 11 years. I got my degree in elementary education. I have taught 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. I'm best with younger grades. I can help with homework or plan a lesson over any concept you are having trouble with. I like to make learning fun. I have taught math, science, language arts, and social studies.
I truly enjoy teaching. I've taught in the public school classroom for 11 years. Teaching music is so so much FUN! And it should be fun for the students to learn. When I'm teaching I tell all my students that if they don't enjoy and smile about something, then we need to change something.
Kevin is an enthusiastic and professional teacher! He has built up my son's confidence, and given him opportunities to perform and hone his percussion skills. I highly recommend Kevin!

I was out of town when my 15-year old son had his lesson with Kevin, so I sent a text to my son to find out how it went. "He is the best guitar teacher ever!!" my son replied. I think that says it all.

First lesson was great! On the drive home Ava said, " I'm so excited I feel like I could run a marathon!"
Haha Thank you Kevin!
I believe that students should be given an opportunity to be shown how to practice. This is so that when the instructor is not there to guide, the student is able to know step-by-step of what they are supposed to do.
Vivian is violinist who has experienced teaching all ages. She is currently pursuing an Undergraduate Degree in Music Education(Instrumental) at Rowan University with the mindset of having a performance and education masters. She has recently awarded Teacher of the Month for July 2019 on Lessonface. Upcoming performances include works from Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.
Past positions include Concertmaster of the Rowan Youth Orchestra. Occasionally plays with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, judges All South Jersey Orchestra, and volunteers for Music at Bunker Hill, a Chamber Music Venue in Southern New Jersey. She has done masterclasses with Dimitris Chandrakis, Hal Grossman, and currently studies with Timothy Schwarz at Rowan University.
Vivian was very helpful! She easily guided me through the initial lesson beginning with basic tuning, hand and finger position, posture and we were playing some basic music by the end of even that first lesson.
Someone currently skilled at math, fun classes (and not your here we go today kids) that will prepare you for whatever you need while hopefully being stress relieving for those who don't like math.
Hey future students,
This is Liam, I'm a pretty chill and lay back kind of guy looking to help you out with any math questions you may have. Being someone who has always loved math since a young age I wanted to help others in the subject. I have experience in the classes your most likely taking and will be able to help. My main goal is to make math ACTUALLY enjoyable and fun for YOU. And at the very least I can promise it won’t be as boring as your class. I hope you enjoy your classes and feeback is always appreciated.
Learning math is a bit hard for some students but i make it easy! How? I have studied math in professional way from elementary until now! We start from easy question by different methods. We practice different kinds of easy and hard question until you can solve math problems less than 1 min!
My name is Frince and im a dentistry student. I had studied in a country that the subjects are really harder than the US or Europe. I've lived in the US,too. I am an outgoing, patient, University student who loves learning. I am passionate about mathematics and especially physics(it is my major). I spent many years tutoring for my church and teaching Sunday school for k-8. My lessons are unique because I believe my personality is great for forming solid connections with my students. I love doing many different outdoor and indoor activities and I always have something interesting to talk about.
I am an outgoing person who loves all activities indoors and out. I am passionate about physics and I am a very easy going, patient person. I like to connect and I like sharing things about myself, such as my many cats. I used to teach Sunday school and tutor for my church. Now, my time is spent going around and eating great food while studying for my Major in Physics.
"My son had a wonderful lesson and was well prepared for his exam"
"My 13 yr old son had attented the tutoring for Mathematics and Physics. Each session was supportive and completing the actual school standard. My son alwa
ys came home with a great sense of satisfaction. His scores showed a remarkable step up due to the tutor's impeccable coaching."
"Our son was tutored in math for 3 years while in middle school. Julia's tutoring provided a great foundation for his high school curriculum. It allowed hi
m to finish one year of a college level math class while in high school. Our daughter was also tutored while in elementary school. Math is her favorite subject in school. We really liked Julia's teaching approach, great communication skills , and her patience ."
"She was really great, smart, funny-easy to work with."
"Matt is very clear and helpful. I recommend him as does my son."
"Friendly e compentent."
"Our son loves Jessie! For the first time, I hear him laughing and enjoying math. His confidence has grown so much this year, and trust me, that's a very b
ig deal! She is patient, funny, and has transformed his attitude toward math in a very short period of time. Can't say enough good things about her!"
"I am a sixth grade student, and Julia has been a very good math tutor to me for about 3 years already, and I plan to keep going to her for a while. I am s
eeing lots of improvement at school, and my MAP and other test scores have increased greatly since the start of Julia helping me out this year. Two things that are great about Julia as a tutor, are that she never, ever yells or gets frustrated when I don’t understand how to do something. Also, she takes as much time as needed to explain a hard problem to me, and she does that very clearly, until I fully understand how to do that problem. My overall opinion of Julia is that she is one of the best math tutors out there, because I had to go through many other tutors to find a good one, and Julia is the best."
"Whenever I needed help in math, Mrs. Naugle was the person I would turn to. She set up an encouraging environment where I was never afraid to ask for help
because I knew that she would explain everything to me in a way that would ensure that I’d have a better grasp on the concepts that I was either completely confused on or just needed slight explanation to understand it fully."
