*** Lesson Details ***
Students can expect to receive a firm foundation in music & guitar while becoming a better musician every day. It is vital for students to have lessons that specialize in not only guitar but also music theory. My primary goals are to make each student a great guitarist and also a well-rounded musician. I firmly believe that any student at any age can become a successful guitarist when engaged in instruction that is appropriate and motivating.

Typically a lesson begins with a quick warm up to center your focus on guitar, then we move into scales and technique, followed by working on previous repertoire and picking new repertoire. and then concluding with sight-reading.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room with seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I ask my students to purchase any instruments or method books.

My 7 year old son has been taking lessons with Dave for nearly two years. Dave has an incredible amount of patience, and is always coming up with new ways to keep my son interested. Dave's ability to build in interesting facts about the music and composers, his use of technology to enable the lessons, and his general good humor never cease to amaze me. He's a great teacher.

David is a wonderful teacher who makes learning to play music interesting. He seems to focus on his student's progress and lead them in the right direction. I am a current classical guitar student of his and he has helped me to prepare various pieces and scales for my upcoming college audition. I would highly recommend David to anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar as he is very patient and a very skilled guitarist and teacher!

If you need a little guidance from someone who not only plays guitar, but loves it, book lessons with me today! I am a very patient teacher and will encourage your success every step of the way.
I design my course around your specific goals and at your skill level, wherever you are right now.
If you just want to learn some basic chords so you can play along with friends, or on your own...no problem. If you want to learn the proper techniques to playing guitar, including following sheet-music, we can work on that, too. If you always wanted to know how to improvise and play lead guitar, I can help you there as well. No matter the goal, I will help you make it possible to achieve.

I can help you with electric, acoustic, 12-string, nylon-string, etc. From the basics like, holding and strumming your guitar, to tuning and changing strings, to playing riffs and full songs.

Since I also have recording capabilities, I can create practice tracks just for you...at any tempo needed ...

About April
I began playing guitar when I was 12 years old and never looked back. Music has always been a part of my life and I love sharing that joy with others. I started singing at church and in school (in various choirs and ensembles). I later attended college on a Vocal Scholarship and majored in Music/Education for 2 years while playing in a 4-piece rock band as the lead singer/guitarist.
While piano was my first instrument that I started lessons on when I was 8 yrs old, I moved onto guitar and then bass guitar shortly after (and I continued with mandolin, dulcimer, drums, ukulele & singing).
I love all music, nearly every genre there is; old and new. So if there's a certain type of music you want to master...I'm your girl.

I hope to be able to help you through your musical journey, the way so many have helped me through mine.

I have been taking voice lessons with Jimmy for the last 5 months. I never had musical training and was not even sure I had a voice ..... but I really wanted to sing and decided to give it a try. Jimmy is very knowledgeable about both physical and mental/emotional aspects of singing. It has been quite a journey..... but now I know that I do indeed have a voice. Of course it was a lot of work - Jimmy always had a homework for me - but It still feels like a miracle.
I am looking forward to further lessons with him so that I can keep learning.

My students can expect to have their lessons with me structured to fit their own unique and personal goals no matter what skill level they pursue or have already attained. I would encourage my students to find and bring sheet music and/or tablature for songs they wish to learn. Students are also encouraged to have blank music and/or tab paper for their lessons. For all lessons whether online or in home, students can expect me to bring a small amp, extra 1/4 in and 1/8 in cables, extra guitar picks, various guitar method books, a laptop computer, tuner & metronome, as well as other supplies needed. For in home lessons, I will do the best that I can to come to the student's home at least 5-10 min early to allow time to set up gear needed for lessons. As a final note, if there is a time and/or day that you would like to schedule a lesson with me that you do not see listed as part of my availability or if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I am here to help

Whether you're tackling singer-songwriting, accompaniment, pop/rock, jazz/funk/r&b, or even classical exercises, I can help you. I've studied piano/voice/guitar long enough to know what each kind of instrumentalist/vocalist needs. I'm well versed in a overview of all genres and styles, as well as specialized areas of study. As a writer, I'm also very familiar with coaching instrumentalists geared towards composition and arranging. If you're looking to improve your skills, I can help!

About Jake
I want to teach the material that excites students. After a handful of really crummy experiences with teachers who wanted me to learn a specific way, I stumbled across a music school in Philadelphia and a college in Boston that really got the principle of teaching what students are drawn to. Bruce Springsteen wrote, "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school." Although I don't agree with that on all occasions, there is something so special about hearing something that makes you tick and going, "ok let me listen to that again, and now let me figure out HOW I can do that myself." As a teacher, I'm flexible, focused, and also love to have fun with music. It's something that makes us excited and alive; there's no use in pursuing something you love if you don't equally enjoy the process of getting great at
it. So let's find what makes YOU excited about music, and let's figure out out to make you great at it.
