During my time with students, I strive to assist them in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with their singing. No matter what their goals are- All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping them reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.

I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on each student’s interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and work on an array of genres with my students including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. Students will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once ...

About Megan
At the age of 4 I began producing musicals in my basement with my sister. This progressed to acting classes, piano lessons, and eventually the school musical in sixth grade. I began taking voice lessons when I was in eighth grade and have never looked back. Through high school, I focused on both classical and musical theatre genres, having leads in high school and community musicals and operettas. While attending the University of Delaware for my Bachelor of Music, I majored in Applied Music: Voice and had the privilege of performing lead roles in Sweeney Todd, The Pirates of Penzance, The Marriage of Figaro, and Die Fledermaus. In addition, I performed two recitals. I was also fortunate enough to be a member of the University of Delaware Chorale, traveling to both China and Spain for tours and competitions. I then attended UD for my Mast
er of Music in Vocal Performance where I maintained a full studio of undergraduate voice minors as a Graduate Teaching assistant.

I took my first pedagogy class at UD and began teaching voice lessons at the Community Music School during my junior year. My experience as a teaching assistant shaped me into the teacher that I am today. I love teaching and helping students reach goals! With my thorough pedagogical training and varied performance experience, I have a great deal to offer my students.

Megan was the best voice teacher I've had. She was very personable and friendly and more importantly, she was very supportive of my goals. She really emphasized bringing out the 'free' voice as opposed to just molding it towards a particular style, which helped boost my confidence. Highly recommended!

Meg creates a very welcoming and nurturing environment where students feel safe to grow and learn.

Meg is a wonderful teacher who I would recommend to anybody. One of the things I loved about her was how patient she was with me, even when I became frustrated with myself. She creates an open and warm environment where I felt free to make mistakes and explore my voice, but would always have learned something new at the end of each lesson.

I've been performing in NYC for over 13 years. I will help you get ready to perform on stage if you've never done it before, or advise you as you prepare for a big show or audition. Some techniques we'll work on are how to take the stage confidently, how to define and strengthen your best qualities and how to make an audience love you. I am looking forward to helping you with your specific goals.

About Jessica
Hello! Thanks for checking out my profile. Please feel free to ask me any questions. -Jessica

***About Jessica***
Jessica is known worldwide for her music which incorporates her original comedy, artwork and videos. She spent a decade touring the US and the UK and has performed in many festivals including the Reading & Leeds Festival, Latitude Festival, Montreal Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Dublin Comedy Festival, End of the Road Festival, NY Funny Songs Festival, NY International Children’s Film Festival and more.

Jessica’s music and comedy is inspired by being the oldest of 6 girls and growing up in a small town in Maine, where she taught Sunday school and counseled teens and twins in a local after school program for four years. When Jessica was 19, she moved to Philadelphia to study animation after receiving a par
tial scholarship to the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and relocated to NYC shortly after graduating.

Her unique music, performances, art and internet videos have won many awards and critical acclaim.

She has performed her music and written segments and songs for television (including ABC’s “Good Morning America”, MTV’s “I Bet You Will”, Fox News “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld”, IFC's "Comedy Music Hall of Fame", HGTV's Flea Market Flip, TBS’s “Saving Grace” website and “The Tyra Banks Show”), radio (including "The Dr. Demento Show", "The Jackie Martling Show", WFMU's "Spreading Yourself Thin with Jessica D" and “The Opie and Anthony Radio Show” on SiriusXM, BBC’s “Loose Ends Radio Programme” and BBC’s “The Simone Show” in the UK), feature films (including “What Would Jesus Buy?” directed by Morgan Spurlock), commercially for major clients and also on stages across the US and the UK (including London’s prestigious Soho Theatre, NYC’s Irving Plaza, Joe’s Pub and The Bowery Ballroom as John Waters’ opening act, and LA’s Troubadour).

*** Lesson Details ***
Jessica brings a lot of fun to her lessons. She is like a cool aunt or a big sister who likes to have a good time but who also wants to teach you to play guitar or ukulele and sing, hopefully at the same time. Jessica's laid back style and attention to your needs as a student will help you reach your goals, whatever they may be. Together, you will go as fast or as slow as is comfortable for you. Jessica works with classic rock, pop, folk and all your favorite songs as your step ladder for learning. Jessica also can help you develop your own musical style and teach you to write YOUR OWN SONGS from beginning to end, if that is of interest to you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
amp, microphone, keyboard, guitar, ukulele, music stands

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar and Ukulele. Students can rent instruments initially but must get their own, as soon as possible

*** Specialties ***
Classic stringed instruments such as acoustic / electric guitar and ukulele, and several unusual instruments such as singing saw and electronic and standard autoharp, singing, songwriting and guidance on how to monetize your band, including acquiring sponsorships and arranging local and international tours.

***What Are Lessons Like?***

Jessica is a virtuoso on the ukulele. She has the patience of a saint with less than adept students. Yet she is insistent, in a gentle way, about instilling correct form in her students' approach to the uke. In addition, she is a walking encyclopedia of songs that span the range from traditional to standards to current day favorites, and from country to r&B to rock and roll.

I have a 100% rate of getting my students into their school of choice as of yet. Although I don't guarantee it, I will work relentlessly to make sure you are well prepared though. I will also lend you PDFs of books to help you save a buck.

About Scott
*Brief Update: Both of my 8th grade students were accepted to LaGuardia High School and my 5th grade student was accepted into Mark Twain Middle School for the Gifted & Talented. He also passed his audition for Borough Wide Band. Next up is getting my Junior in high school into All State Orchestra!*

*Update again. My student made all state!

I have been playing drums and percussion since the ripe old age of 9, in 4th grade. Originally wanting to play the clarinet, my music teacher thought my sense of rhythm was too good to waste and placed me in the drum section. I was the only kid who didn't want to play drums. Twenty years later here I am, a professional freelancing percussionist and teacher. The journey to where I am was a long and winding one but I can't imagine it any other way. After learning basic drumming in elementary sch
ool, I continued through middle school. There I was placed on drum kit and thought I was the coolest. I didn't take it too seriously but serious enough to keep playing drum kit. When choosing high schools I wasn't interested in keeping with drums. I only took marching band because it meant no gym. After my first year I was placed in every band the next three years, having to learn timpani and marimba for concert band. I was also recommended to join a city wide concert band, InterSchool orchestras of New York, and haven't left since. I still coach the band and help tons of high school and middle school students hone their craft. Also that year, through ISO, I was given a chance to attend French woods performing arts camp on scholarship where I began my love of playing in musical pit orchestras. Through this time I studied with a couple of teachers and had plenty of coachings with professional percussionists. Upon graduating I have played well over 100 different musicals, played with over 25 different orchestras, and have taught over 100 students both privately and in coachings. I currently run a Drumline out of a private school, coach ISO band, freelance and have a studio of 8 students. That is a short sample of my journey and I hope it inspires you to study with me.

If you choose me as a teacher, I will shape you as an overall musician, not just a "Drummer". What this means is that you won't just learn beats from me, you will learn all the fundamentals of basic to intermediate music theory, from note reading and rhythm to chord changes and ..... You will start on a practice pad and quickly go to a drum kit. Lessons will be half and half, but more 75/25 drumkit, because everything you learn on a pad can translate to the kit! I would also teach you timpani and xylophone if you like so you can broaden your horizons and even get into the middle/high school or college you want. I have most of my books of pdf that I can give you to print or you can purchase your own copies. You would also need to purchase a practice pad and eventually a drum kit. If you don't want to purchase a drum kit then there is almost no reason to study it since you won't be able to practice between lessons. Practicing, let's talk about that. It is expected that you practice the material we learn in the lesson throughout the week. Now I know everyone is busy, but if you can put aside 25 minutes (a sitcom without commercials!!) a day then you will have a better understanding and better retention of the material. Doing this will let us just review the material a little bit and go on to learn new and exciting things.

The bottom line in choosing me? I am a professional musician in the trenches of the nyc music scene and know what it takes to make it.

Interpretation in any instrument is an important part of good music-making - I coach instrumentalists and singers of all levels on how to make the most of their performance!

About Laura
Music is definitely the universal language, and there isn't a genre I don't love; it's important to me that that aspect be brought to lessons, as well! From humble New Jersey beginnings to an opera career, I've seen the power of what music can do!

Whether it's opera, musical theater, folk, rock, or just public speaking, anything YOU love to do, I would love to teach you! Having taught all ages and levels, from first graders to adults, from someone who's never sung a note in his or her life to semi-professionals, I cater my lessons to what YOU as a student need and are interested in.

Lessons shouldn't be a chore - I like to foster an environment you look forward to being a part of! I also think that music, like any sport, is hard work, and takes seriously practice; even hobbies take concentration and application! I understand and can
work with many schedules and work loads, but I expect my students to put at least half the effort into their lessons that I do!

Laura is a wonderful voice instructor! You can tell that she is very knowledgeable about music and voice overall. She makes my lessons very fun, but also informative at the same time. They are not just technical lessons about how to sing. Laura incorporates different teaching styles to accommodate her students' way of learning, and also works with you on the style of music you prefer. The only thing I hope for more of out of my lessons is to have more time singing, but I am a beginner and Laura makes sure you strengthen your foundations first in order to support your voice!

It is difficult to learn anything at the age 40, specially a musical instrument, but she made it comfortable and easy to understand. She's extremely patient a key quality when teaching a subject such a music to anyone. I would say, give her teaching style a try and you won't regret it. Very knowledgeable indeed.

She was great, first lesson and I learned a lot about how to improve my singing, demonstrably so. Very pleased, looking forward to continuing.

I am a classically trained saxophonist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and music arranger with a Bachelor in Music Education from the University of Central Florida. I specialize in teaching beginning musicians, but that doesn't only mean children! No matter your age and no matter the reason, I am more than happy to bring a little music into your life. I have experience as a public school piano, band, chorus, and orchestra teacher. I have also taught private saxophone, flute, clarinet, and music theory lessons to students of all ages. My students have gone on to become all state band members, earn superior ratings at state-wide music festivals, and study music at a professional level.

About Stephen
I am a classically trained saxophonist, bass vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. I have experience arranging music of all styles for bands, orchestra, percussion ensembles, and a cappella groups. I was the saxophonist for The High Lifes, a ska-punk band out of Orlando, FL; played tenor and baritone saxophone in my university's wind ensemble, saxophone quartet, jazz band, and orchestra; have founded and led four a cappella groups at the collegiate and semi-professional levels; and am a bass section leader in the New York City Bar Choir. I have taught public school band, chorus, orchestra, piano, and music technology classes and was an elementary school music teacher in Orlando, FL before moving to New York in 2012.

My private saxophone students have gone on to study at the college level, have been members of the Florida All-State band, a
nd earned Superior ratings at state music festivals. I have also taught private flute, clarinet, and bassoon lessons.

In addition to music performance classes, I have experiencing teaching music theory and arranging. If you would like to learn about the magic behind music, I'm your guy!

If you're interested in ensemble lessons, we can negotiate group package discounts. I've found that music is best when shared and learning to perform quality musical literature with other, like-minded musicians is one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

Music Criticism: How To Handle a Critical Audience
Years ago, I heard my first band would be featured in the local paper and I was so excited to read the article. I hurried home to read it and found that the short blurb was far from complimentary. However, I have learned how to handle criticism and continued to make music that makes me happy. In the time since then, I have been lucky enough to receive both criticism and positive revie
