About Perry
Hello!

My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

I am familiar with all styles of guitar from fingerpicking to Bebop/Swing. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.

I teach beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric g
uitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.

My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, DADGAD and other alternate tunings, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas, Paco de Lucia, Pat Martino, John Fahey, and Davey Graham.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.

As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.

I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.

My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.

I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
Emphasis on classical posture and technique.
Emphasis on sight-reading.
All students learn to play basic blues and jam
Technique varies depending on the particular style the student wishes to learn.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulk of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Vo-96, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also, the sonic language of music.

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

SCHEDULE NOTE: This is a very busy time of year for me. My availability is quite limited, so please check with me prior to scheduling. I have set the automatic calendar very tightly so please ask if there's a specific date and time not listed that you're interested in booking. END OF NOTE

Hello from Seattle! I love teaching! For more than 40 years and I have been a professional photographer. I was the Team Photographer for the Washington Stealth pro indoor lacrosse team for three years, and teach photography at the Pacific Science Center, the Bellevue Club, The Leica Store, Glazer's Camera, Omega Photo and other locations. I have shot professionally since I was 15. My photos have been published in several magazines and I have three photos published in the New York Times. I was the mission photographer for the first private spaceflight
- Space Ship One, and the first ocean plastic cleanup system. I have experience shooting dozens of cameras from nearly every manufacturer. I often write camera, software and lens reviews for online sites. I am also a former employee of Apple in their advertising department.

I love teaching:

~ Photography 101, Basic Photography How To's
~ Learning How to Really Use Your Camera (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica, Panasonic, Olympus and more)
~ How to pick and use the right lenses for the task
~ Photos for your Online Store: Table Top Photography
~ Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop
~ Photo Processing, Editing, Storage
~ Basic Portrait Lighting
~ Travel Photography including making travel books
~ Black & White Photos from your Color Photos
~ Sports Photography
~ Printing Fine Art Photos
~ Color Management
~ Mac computer setup and optimization for photography

and other topics that may be of interest to you. I especially love doing a portfolio review with you where I give you honest critique and suggestions on how to improve your existing photos and think about elevating your new photos.

I like to start with new students by talking on the phone or emailing before our first lesson to get a good sense of your experience and your goals in getting more instruction in photography. I do not charge for this initial conversation once you have registered and scheduled your first lesson package.

Three of my students have gone from amateur to professional and are selling their work.

I am married (28 years!) and I have two boys - one in high school and one graduating college. I have several students in their early teens - I love teaching them because they're so motivated and unafraid of the technology.

We can do lessons together online using Zoom - we can see each other, hear each other, share screens and I can show you step by step how to do everything we cover! Zoom conferencing is free, there's nothing to buy, so it's included in my lesson prices. My students love our online sessions - we go at your pace and answer all the questions you have. My students range in age from 11 to 80.

I am most proud of this comment from one of my students:
"There is a difference between teaching and mentoring. While the terms seem similar they are distinct in their approach to the recipient. Brad is innately both with the lessons I participated in. He is a teacher and a mentor.

He taught me but he also "brought me along". On one hand, he gave me excellent raw knowledge and technique but still, on the opposite side of the coin, gave constant reality-based feedback and pushed me without hurting my enthusiasm. He told me about his successes and shortcomings "once upon a time ago" and I didn't see him as infallible as many instructors want you to, I saw him as having lived a path, scouted it, and coming back to help show me the way. He didn't just tell me where I was going wrong, he showed me, then showed me how to correct it, then guided me through the process of correcting it, then followed up. Who could ask for more than that?

Brad is the total package when it comes to instruction. I am a better photographer for having studied with him. I am also making my dreams come true as a businessman. I owe most of that to him. I look forward to my next lessons, but honestly I more so look forward to what is behind the doors he will inevitably open up for me."

Hello everyone!

I want to help you make huge leaps in your skills to become a better artist than you even thought was possible! Whatever you want to create, you can do it! Private lessons can save a lot of time and keep you on the right path for your personal individual needs, where ever you are on your way to becoming Leonardo (not DiCaprio, the other one). Want to learn how to draw lifelike faces? Paint realistic still life? Improve your proportions with the human figure? Master color with landscapes? I have experience doing all of these things and I want to share with you some of the best methods to go about them.

There are all kinds of different ways to approach drawing or painting the same thing. You should use the techniques that feel most natural and work best for you. I will customize your lesson to the subject, medium and speed that you pre
fer, so that
as long as you've got the necessary fundamentals taken care of, you can make strides in whatever area you want. I hope that you will sign up for a lesson with me so I can show you how! If you're not sure where to start, just send me a message and we'll figure it out.

I’ve been painting with oils for almost three decades, and drawing for as long as I can remember. I’ve been a full time fine artist for over a decade now. I’ve been doing guest demos and teaching private and group lessons for many years, for various subject matter and age groups.

After graduating from Tyler School of Art at Temple University with a major in Painting, I had jobs making signs by hand, doing T-shirt designs, in a graphic design studio with clients like M&M Mars, Claritin and Revlon. As a freelance artist, I did logos, movie poster illustration, album art and packaging design. I even scored and created sound effects for some short films! Yes, I play keyboard as well.

For my fine art, I’ve worked in many different mediums including watercolor, acrylics, digital, ceramics, sculpture, metal casting and photography. But painting with oils and drawing are my most preferred ways of creating (drawing is the basis for painting). I’ve painted and drawn many different kinds of subjects, but the figure is my favorite. I have worked from photo reference and from life (something right in front of me) as well as from my imagination; the range of styles that I have used have gone from photorealism all the way to cartoons. I am proficient in Photoshop, which I currently use often to create composite images as reference for my paintings. My paintings have been displayed in many shows across the country, and have sold internationally.

About Tori
I am a professional artist and musician in Chattanooga, TN! I have been teaching art and music for six years in California and Tennessee. I have been painting since I was big enough to hold a paintbrush and playing the harp for over 15 years. I have a degree from Stanford University in Art Practice (Painting) and studied and performed under the tutelage of Marjorie Chauvel at Stanford University.

My harp students can expect fun weekly lessons that go over basic harp technique, music theory, sight reading, and music history. Beyond that, all your lessons will be tailored to YOUR music goals. Do you want to learn to arrange covers of your favorite songs? Let's get to it! I supplement my lessons by teaching good habits for practicing, exercises and stretches to minimize muscle fatigue, and the basics of how to find performance opportunit
ies to share your love of the harp with the world!

My art students can expect similarly tailored lessons. I teach most forms of visual art from oil painting to sculpture to photography to drawing. Once we've talked about your goals and hopes and dreams as a new artist, we will work together to develop a skillset in creativity that will last a lifetime.

I can't recommend lessons with Tori highly enough!

I've been obsessed with oil painting, and every kind of 2D visual art, for as long as I can remember, but I never really believed in myself to do it until I worked with Tori.

My drawing, painting, and even my 3D work progressed more, and more quickly, working with Tori than they had in years

Thank you Tori!!!!

My three boys (ages 11-15) loved working with Tori. We still have the block print-making pieces, paintings and charcoal drawings displayed in our kitchen. Their favorite project was creating plaster casts of their own faces. Tori is very thoughtful, patient and has a great zen energy. I highly recommend Tori!
