I really hit JACKPOT with Joanne. Joanne is very technical, yet explains things in a manner to make you understand. I had a great first session with Joanne and look forward to many more, as my budget permits. She helped me with exactly what I needed help with and taught me a few things in the meantime.

For the last 20 years, I have been a tutor of pre-algebra and math for grades 5-7. I tutored these subjects at Score Education Center- an after-school tutoring enter for students, ages 5-15.

About Douglas
I combine my two decades of experience as a professional tutor and corporate writer with my own personal understanding of the learning struggles faced by students to create unique methods for every student to learn, regardless of the subject. I use creative innovations to make learning fun and enjoyable for my students. My students quickly see how much I care for their progress and success. Many have chosen to retain me as their tutor for more than a year.

I had the opportunity to work with Douglas a number of times during my tenure as a part-time instructor at SCORE Educational Center. What I noticed about him was that he related very well to the children he worked with - he was a very enthusiastic tutor of English and math! He was most generous with the "high fives" and praise, and he also knew how to get students back on track if their focus strayed. Also, I saw him work very well with the parents; he always took the time to patiently explain lesson plans and students' progress between sessions. I have known Douglas personally for many years. He was the one who encouraged me to work at SCORE Educational Center given my background in Education - I thank him for that because I enjoyed my time there very much while I was able to stay (unfortunately, I had to leave that position for a full-time job elsewhere). SCORE Educational Center is no longer in existence. Douglas currently works as an independent tutor, and given how long I've seen clients stick with him, I have no doubt that they are enjoying the same level of attention and enthusiasm he provided at SCORE. When he speaks about the progress of independent clients and how they respond to him, it is with enthusiasm and a glowing smile. If you are looking for a tutor that is intelligent, dedicated, enthusiastic, and simply great with kids and parents, then Douglas is your man.

Math is my biggest passion, ever since I discovered its full depth. While many ask themselves "how will this equation be useful in my life?" I always ask myself "how can I make this equation meaningful in my life." I am a mathematics major and have enjoyed every single math class I have ever taken.

About Brandon
Ever since I started my studies in the United States, 5 years ago, I have been captivated by the educational system. Initially, I tutored high school students as a tool to better practice my communication skills with the English language. I continued this tutoring path by aiding other college students on a 1-to-1 basis and more recently as part of an online experience at Slader.com. I wish to continue this path until I finally graduate in order to apply as a Graduate Student Instructor at my school of choice. Math is my biggest passion, ever since I discovered its full depth. While many ask themselves "how will this equation be useful in my life?" I always ask myself "how can I make this equation meaningful in my life." I am a mathematics major and have enjoyed every single math class I have ever taken.

Math was always easy for me and I love to help make it easy for others. When a person fully understands a concept it is easy to remember and to use it in life. I love it when students tell me "I get it!" or "I know it!" and especially "I didn't have to memorize a zillion formulas." There are at least 3 ways to teach any math concept and I can use any of many resources to help a student much more than just homework help. Life-long learning in Math or any subject is about having purpose for learning because you can USE the information in your life. I love to tutor all Math from grade school up through Algebra & Geometry (sometimes called Integrated Math I & II in high school) because I believe these are relevant to anyone no matter what their future goal is for education or career or living life. Let's put the FUN and confidence into Math!

If you're concerned about Common Core, let me express it this way. Over and over the books change and the ways teachers attempt to teach ...

About Kat
Hi! My name is Kat. I've tutored math off & on all of my life, well at least since 3rd grade. I graduated college with a BS in Math & a Teaching Credential in 1973. However, I worked as an Engineer most of my adult life including a lot of computer programming, technical analyses, strategic planning and public speaking. I have a lot of experience with APPLYING math concepts as well as tutoring them! I also tutor Reading Comprehension as easily & effectively as Math.

I love to answer the student questions about "why am I learning this?" and "when will I ever use this." I specialize in all math from very basic up through Algebra I and Geometry because #1= I love them! #2= I can usually relate ANY math concept you need to learn to your own present life and future goals and #3= I can teach most concepts 3 or more different ways, as
needed, until you're sure you know it.

I've had my own tutoring business for ten years and helped hundreds of students. I've also trained dozens of tutors. I recently moved from Northern California to Connecticut. I look forward to meeting you & making math FUN!

I hired Paul last November to help my daughter, Kara, with her middle school NYSSMA audition. Paul assessed my daughter, asking her to play a song she already knew and took notes on what she was already good at and what to improve on. When Paul taught Kara her NYSSMA solo, he was very meticulous, paid much attention to Kara's playing, and taught her techniques on how to correct certain mistakes and methods on how to improve what was already good to make her stick out. On the date of her NYSSMA audition, she was very confident, got a perfect score, and made it into the All-County Band :).
I could not recommend Paul more. His experience and methods of teaching technique especially caught my eye, and is what differentiates him from other instructors. He is very patient, kind, honest, and sits down with you to set realistic expectations and goals and how to achieve them. I still book him today for my daughter who is now in High School and has even made All-State Bands because of Paul. He may be in college, but he has music wisdom way beyond his years!!

Thank you Paul for all you do,
Peggy Ghiraldi

About Chinwe
I am passionate about my teaching and research field and my teaching has always been aimed at making students share that passion and its understanding. My teaching is not simply limited to transferring textbook knowledge but also the application of such knowledge. My modules include a lot of recent supplementary reading from academic materials so students can explore topics in more detail.
All of my current modules have a combination of coursework and exams or are coursework only. Coursework is not of the one-size-fits-all type, but is explicitly aimed at letting students follow and develop their own interests.
I actively seek feedback from students to further improve my teaching and to check whether students have mastered the concepts discussed in the lectures. My teaching is supported by Power-point slides, videos and (computer-based) s
imulations. From my web site, students can download course materials such as hand-outs, supplementary readings and additional instructions [now removed]. They will also find links to relevant web resources for the modules I teach.
